@tekhnokilla because I still have a ps3. It doesn't do anything except collect dust. The reason I was on this video is because I was bored at work and had nothing better to do. I love video games and am obsessed with improving the quality of playing them. xbox just does so much more than ps3....

What alot of sites do, when they make comparisons of PS3 and 360 versions of multiplat games, is actually make sure these settings are off, because they are not default settings on the PS3 when an HDMI cable is detected. It actually makes a world of difference when you follow these instructions properly, and alot of sites (Lens of Truth, Gamespot, etc.) use this to their advantage to make the PS3 versions of multiplat games look inferior to the 360 version.
but i agree with everyone who says output is output if your upgrading from SD to HD then yeah all you need is a simple cable from who the fuck cares :D cuz the differences are too small to give two shits about. i still use the poorest cable i have because it does the job i want and thats what it boils down too.
if the materials they use are good and have less impurities in the wiring its a difference. and it ties into length aswell... the longer your cable is the longer the distance the digital transfer is stretched. its super minute but barely noticable unless you got it from a sweat shop in the arctic, less impurities and less possible distance the better. nothing is instant. its like ethernet cables, the longer it is the slower it seems.

Rgb should be on any tv made from 08 and on supports that setting.
Leaving it on full makes the games look washed out and the shadows are messed up, don't believe look it up but super white depends on ur tv my 2009 vizio runs its perfectly

Gold plated HDMI cables do nothing in terms of picture. What a hdmi transfer from (lets say a PS3) is a digital picture (1080i or p). Either your tv receives the picture or doesn't.... but since it is digitial there is ABSOLUTELY no difference from a 5 dollar HDMI cable and an 150 one except the name and being gold plated

Also, a cheap $5 hdmi cable will most likely only produce a 1080i image which is fine for an xbox 360 but if your tv is capable of a 1080p picture and blue ray quality (like a PS3) you will need a monster cable which usually range anywhere between $15 and $250.
@dma0034 You fail to know how HDMI works. The idea that digital cables are impervious to errors doesn't hold water. The data is encoded digitally but it still has to travel down the cable as an electric signal that's susceptible to degradation from the cable itself and interference from other electric devices.
An error in the transmission can range from low contrast, glitches, background snow, etc.
A better cable cuts down the chance of errors, that's the difference.

gold plated hdmi vs non gold plated. there is no diference. gold is softer so you can plug and unplug it many times but if you don't do that you don't need it. if someone tell anybody that gold is better than non gold. you can show him youre middle finger. hdmi = digital signal. zeroes and ones nothing more.

OR! Turn off your PS3 Than Hold down the power button till it makes several beeps (dont be scared) The ps3 will now auto detect your TV and put it the best settings :D
@Aspifie ACTUALLY! That's not true. I just did that power button til several beeps to automatically set HDMI settings and these settings are left either off or automatic. Manually configuring them will improve picture. (~;
All HDMI's are the same. HDMI just uses digital signals without having to convert to analogue. And super white doesnt make the graphics better. Basically it increases contrast. In the end, it will make a lot of games look like crap.

@PainlessTragedy See what you do is make the PS3 settings as good as they can then you want to lower the sharpness on your tv to the mid part or to 50 out of 100. Then it should look perfect.
@PainlessTragedy It looks that way for two reasons. One is that the PS3 runs most of it's multiplatform games such as COD in sub HD resolutions. Then they are upscaled to 1080p. This results in worse looking quality because it is not "true" 1080p. The other reason you see jagged edges is that the PS3 has poor antialiasing in many games. This is an effect that is put on games in real time to make the edges look softer and less jagged. It takes processing power, however.

The Xbox360 has better antialising, but the PS3 when used up to FUll potential like PS3 exclusive games, it will look great in HD even though it runs at 720p like you said... why do you set rgb to full its only for pc monitors if you set it to full the images look too dark and you cant really see small details its better to leave it on limited most hdtvs dont support rgb signals
Don't set the RGB range to full! That is the setting you use if you have a PC monitor that goes from color scale 0-255. A standard TV does not have the same settings, and thusly should be set to Limited. Don't let the name full you, limited will look better than full - if you set it to full, you're telling it to be blacker than black and whiter than white, and excessive whites and blacks will look washed out.

@EnRGYGamingPS3 you cant have variation in HDMI cables. it is a digital signal therefore all 1s and 0s. if there is a fault it just wont work. the nearest it can come to having variants is by length. but even then it rarely makes a difference

Gold actually matters. I always buy gold plated. Reason being, the cable can get really hot and sometimes I have to change the audio settings ( I should say refresh) on my HD tv's with a regular HDMI. But as far as graphics goes, gold plated makes no difference. 1080p will always be 1080, motherfuckin' p.

People don't want to admit that they spent more more money on something they could have spent less for the same performance. It's also pretty unfair for the people who can't buy those expensive cables, because they ultimately end up with a cable they think is ''cheap'' and feel bad for it. But yeah, the PS3 is the computer and the TV is the monitor. No matter what cable you get, if it's a 1080 HDMI cable, the cable you buy is simply what connects the console to the tele.

@thephattyarbuckle plug in your AV Connection and HDMI. You will need the AV cords for the initial connections. Go to display settings and change video connection to HDMI your screen will go blank for 30 secs, its during this period you must hit the HDMI channel on your TV remote that your playstation is connected too. let me know how you go

The data is encoded digitally but it still has to travel down the cable as an electric signal that's susceptible to degradation from the cable itself and interference from other electric devices.
An error in the transmission can range from low contrast, glitches, background snow, etc.
A better cable cuts down the chance of errors, that's the difference.

gold plated hdmi vs non gold plated. there is no diference. gold is softer so you can plug and unplug it many times but if you don't do that you don't need it. if someone tell anybody that gold is better than non gold. you can show him youre middle finger. hdmi = digital signal. zeroes and ones nothing more.

OR! Turn off your PS3 Than Hold down the power button till it makes several beeps (dont be scared) The ps3 will now auto detect your TV and put it the best settings :D

All HDMI's are the same. HDMI just uses digital signals without having to convert to analogue. And super white doesnt make the graphics better. Basically it increases contrast. In the end, it will make a lot of games look like crap.

Gold doesn't tarnish as quickly. that's the only reason it's used. if you want more speed and better image use a shorter cable.

@PainlessTragedy It looks that way for two reasons. One is that the PS3 runs most of it's multiplatform games such as COD in sub HD resolutions. Then they are upscaled to 1080p. This results in worse looking quality because it is not "true" 1080p. The other reason you see jagged edges is that the PS3 has poor antialiasing in many games. This is an effect that is put on games in real time to make the edges look softer and less jagged. It takes processing power, however.

The Xbox360 has better antialising, but the PS3 when used up to FUll potential like PS3 exclusive games, it will look great in HD even though it runs at 720p like you said... I have Xbox360 and PS3 so I'm not a fanboy lol... But not sure if it makes a difference, my xbox is hooked up with Component and my ps3 is hooked up with HDMI

Don't set the RGB range to full! That is the setting you use if you have a PC monitor that goes from color scale 0-255. A standard TV does not have the same settings, and thusly should be set to Limited. Don't let the name full you, limited will look better than full - if you set it to full, you're telling it to be blacker than black and whiter than white, and excessive whites and blacks will look washed out.

Gold actually matters. I always buy gold plated. Reason being, the cable can get really hot and sometimes I have to change the audio settings ( I should say refresh) on my HD tv's with a regular HDMI. But as far as graphics goes, gold plated makes no difference. 1080p will always be 1080, motherfuckin' p.

People don't want to admit that they spent more more money on something they could have spent less for the same performance. It's also pretty unfair for the people who can't buy those expensive cables, because they ultimately end up with a cable they think is ''cheap'' and feel bad for it. But yeah, the PS3 is the computer and the TV is the monitor. No matter what cable you get, if it's a 1080 HDMI cable, the cable you buy is simply what connects the console to the tele.

@thephattyarbuckle plug in your AV Connection and HDMI. You will need the AV cords for the initial connections. Go to display settings and change video connection to HDMI your screen will go blank for 30 secs, its during this period you must hit the HDMI channel on your TV remote that your playstation is connected too. let me know how you go
