Excellent editing skills, Well done, Dont waste the talent, Make your own movie trailer and get it to some movie producers, its worth a try at least, i mean whats the worst they can say "no?"
@fpsBeaTt I have to disagree, as a Trekker... it WAS Trek. The STORY was a bit more action-heavy than usual, but that's not the worst thing for a reboot of a franchise that wasn't attracting viewers (need viewers or no Trek AT ALL)... so not bad, BECAUSE this film is basically here to let us meet the new crew. And they were GREAT! Spock, Bones, and Chekov (my long-time favorite!) were DEAD ON, Uhura and Scotty were good, Sulu pretty good... Kirk was rawest, but in the story, made sense. TREK!
@obiwanobiwan13 1. The science was absolutely absurd. 2. The villain's motivations were absolutely absurd. 3. The ship design was absolutely absurd, introducing the edselprise and the borgified tribble ship from hell commanded by the space truckie from hell. 4. The phasers and torpedoes were absurd. 5. Red matter... need I say more? 6. As someone who cares about the Trek universe who has been watching TNG since the age of 2 (17 years ago), this movie in some ways better, was overall absurd.
@fpsBeaTt , oh dear, I have watched Star Trek for so many years (from the 70's onwards). I remember when anti-matter was held as absurd. I know that Trek must move on or die, so I accept the changes and feel pride when people say that they have watched the movie, even though they have never watched Star Trek before and they enjoyed it. Nothing stays the same, everything changes. This is Star Trek whether you like it or not. Beleive it or not, I like it.
@LoriCiani Anti matter was neve held as absurd (at least not in the 70s), and just because trek must move on doesn't mean they had to move on in a completely asinine way. I object to them pointlessly changing things for the worse to make them seem less realistic, less impressive and all in all dumb. The already established laws of physics stay the same; they don't change to accommodate those with an infant 's level of understanding and attention. My previous post was correct, sorry you disagree.
@fpsBeaTt , have you watched the original series at all? I ask because you mentioned TNG and nothing else. On the original series they used to bend and break the laws of on an almost regular basis. Things that were just theory then are accepted facts now, one of those theories was antimatter which divided the opinions of the scientific community at that time. I'm talking about before you were born. Roddenberry consulted bodies such as JPL and NASA for the latest theories for Star Trek ideas.
@LoriCiani yes, I did and still do watch TOS, and antimatter was never regarded with the level of absurdity red matter is. The difference between antimatter then and red matter now is that we know and can prove that it is not possible for a substance with such properties to exist naturally or artificially (a substance that appears to creates black whole that randomly either destroys planets/ships or sends them back in time). Also escaping by dumping your fuel source? Absurd.
@LoriCiani "one of those theories was antimatter which divided the opinions of the scientific community at that time."
I'm curious about this statement. The discovery of the positron had been rewarded with a Nobel prize thirty years before TOS was released, and the antiproton was experimentally confirmed in 1955 (and also awarded with a Nobel Prize). Indeed, when TOS was released, they were putting some of the final touches on the Standard Model of Particle Physics.
I dont care what anyone says, IMHO ( and do I mean IMHO),Roddenberry basically stole ( or got ) the Star Trek idea from Forbidden Planet ( yeah I knowthe Tempest, yawn! )
I'd have personally done this reboot differently with a different look/feel ( with a retro future/Sky captain of Tomorrow feel ), something looking like of Forbidden Planet/early 70s ST annual cover look
Abrahms is a v. clever dude ( I love Lost, Cloverfield, etc ), and was I feel working with a limited palette
( not same actors, reboot, canonicity, etc. ), he's done not bad ( despite some things ) crappy transporter effect, engine room? couple of pipes more like, ipod bridge look, etc.
I love ST ( and did enjoy this film ), but feel it has burnt out, a comeback would've had more resonance if it'd been left for a good 10 years or so, but that'd lost moneymaking time for the studios.
I have wide ranging tastes in films ( old, new, foreign ), literature, music ( rock, etc. although mainly classical I must admit! ) and art.
I read, draw, paint, sculpt, play guitar and piano ( both classical ), compose music ( classical, rock, electronica and my own stuff whatever that is ) and when time allows I write.
BTW I really resent the fact that that because I make comparisons with SW, then that must be all I know.
Your assumption that because I make comparisons with SW means Im a one film guy with a limited knowledge of such things shows quite a bit of small mindedness on your part.
No, making comparisons with Star Wars does not mean that one hasn't seen anything else.
But when people try to imply that ST09 ripped off SW or was modelled after SW, just because there are a few general themes, it seems like they've only ever seen SW, since the same general themes appear in a bunch of other films, many of which were made before SW (not to mention books, myths etc.)
I agree with you to a point that these themes have came up in many other things. The fun thing in SW, is seeing all these other things being referenced
The problem here to me, is that it crops up in ST.
A 40 year plus franchise being rebooted should be bringing something else to the table than this.
I like J.J. Abrahms work, but here I feel somewhat disappointed. I expected something a bit more than the usual tried and tested formulaic stuff, which to me anyway stinks of lazy writing.
A lot of effort had been put into everything else in the film (visuals, etc ), Id have expected a bit more effort in the actual story.
The new 007 films ( not without their faults ), is at least trying to bring a maturity to their storylines whilst still trying to navigate constraining expectations of fans.
I love ST. But IMHO sadly like Dr Who and SW it needed/needs a good decade ( at least ) of rest, gather some fan base desire and come back better than ever.
After seeing ST a fortnight ago ( ...and although at the time I thought it mostly not bad ), I knew there was something with it . Something that didn't quite sit right with me.
I knew it followed the Joseph Campbell/Hollywood formula pretty much to the letter ( ...most films do nowadays ), but to follow the SW story so closely?
I'm now seeing this ST in a new (.... and not very good ) light.
Thanx for making me see what I almost but couldn't quite see for myself!
You mean, we will find out in the sequel that Uhura is Kirk's sister, and Nero is their father turned to the dark side? Oh my... I can see the rest of the sequel story: Spock will be cryogenically frozen, while Harry Mudd will imprison Uhura and keep her chained in a bikini. Then after they defeat Mudd, they are surrounded by a bunch of tribbles, but fortunately, it turns out they worship Chekov.
Uhura, under the gun point by Romulans: "I love you."
Seriously, whoever thinks things like a mentor figure, dead father etc. are SW story exclusively has probably barely seen any movies apart from Star Wars...
Hamlet had issues with his dead father and dude who killed him, too, I guess that means Trek ripped off Hamlet, didn't it? As well as Othello (an interracial romance), A Midsummer Night's Dream (there is a pointy-eared guy), Henry IV (a son of a great father wastes his youth hanging out in bars with drunks; pt 2 - a military commander recruits drunks and delinquents in bars), Winter's Tale (dude gets chased by a huge animal), and in TOS, so many planets with powerful magicians (The Tempest).. ;p
Why are you talking to me maan? :D

Hmm! I seemed to have rattled your cage!
you didn't get me right
Art evolves by "stealing" ideas and making them your own ( the real art is in making them your own ), and enhancing them in some way.
Just one example of doing this right ( in my opinion ), Lion king and Hamlet
Its just that here I dont think a good job has been made of doing this. I love both SW and ST but here I think ST deserves better.
P.S. I also love Shakespeare ( so dont get so uppity and condoscending )
