From all I've read about Carter's case (at least a dozen newspaper and magazine articles), I tend to believe that he was guilty. The movie "Hurricane" is known to have distorted (and falsified) many of the facts of the case. I am glad that Carter is now leading a productive and inspirational life, but we shouldn't assume he was a victim of injustice, just because of a movie. I urge everyone to do some research online. You may be surprised with the conclusions you reach.

People seem to be missing something in this - he got off on a technicality and some very slick lawyer gaming over side issues (aside from the actual murder). Even more technically - he was never ruled to have 'not murdered' those people. But forget what technical legal language - he murdered people. He murdered innocent people.
I'd be happier with him if he would actually just say "yes i murdered those people". Well he can't legally do that I suppose.

i was at timber ridge schools (like a boarding school) VA. for teens who have gotten in trouble for a variety of things about a year in 09-10 and mr john artist works there trying to help kids. he is an awsome and funny guy. he was one of the guys in the car that got pulled over that night with carter . he served 15 years in prison. eveyone on campus liked him the best becuse he actually tries to help the people who go there. im probbebly going to give him a call soon

From all I've read about Carter's case (at least a dozen newspaper and magazine articles), I tend to believe that he was guilty. The movie "Hurricane" is known to have distorted (and falsified) many of the facts of the case. I am glad that Carter is now leading a productive and inspirational life, but we shouldn't assume he was a victim of injustice, just because of a movie. I urge everyone to do some research online. You may be surprised with the conclusions you reach.

When an idiot judge granted him a third trial after 25 years he was up for parole anyway and all the witnesses were dead so they just released him. As a final comment, i'd just like to wonder at the irony - people attacking ME, saying I think that i'm better than "everyone else". Here's the clincher - I know i'm not EVERYONE ELSE. So when someone attacks me, I don't turn myself into "everyone else." Also, whether you believe it or not, I became a red belt in "Tae" Kwon Do, albeit seven years ago. i have two black belts, and been studying jkd since i was 6 on top of that. I also study aikido. To get my gradings i had to do kata, technique presentations and essays. If at any point i spelt the art wrong my sensei/sifu would kill me. Even if it had been seven years since you trained, surely you'd remember the name of the art you dedicated enough time to to obtain red belt.

Nah, can't say I do honestly. 7 years is a long time. To be fair, despite doing it, I DO recall a number of things I was supposed to "never forget" such as the Tae Kwon Do mantra, that you're supposed to know by heart, I believe there were five main points...Anyway, you obviously took it to heart much more than I did. I just saw it as a way to keep fit. Then I got into boxing, and I liked that more anyway, so I left TKD behind.

After the court reviewed the evidence, they realized it would cost too much to put him back on trial, and they thought he had served a substantial amount of time for his crime, so they released him.
