i LOVE the lynx! it's the smoothest light rail line i have ever ridden. personally, i would have liked a subway better, but this makes up for it with it's comfort and quietness.
@penguinmaster7 How would a subway work in Charlotte, the cost of boring tunnels would be huge and there is really no purpose it would serve. The UNCC line needs to be built followed by the Davidson line, both would be helpful. Although a subway would be cool, I see no purpose for it.
It definitely doesn't go to Charlotte. I hope it does one day soon though. That would rock if the US adopted enough rail so we don't need to rely on cars so much.
IT does go to charlotte It goes all around the inner city and they are still building tracks for the entire outer city of charlotte. SOON it will go thoughout the city and suburbs of charlotte.
It only serves the Charlotte area, WELL the city... It takes you around the city or should I say thoughout the city. It dosest go as far as ASHVILLE NC. Thats would be a good ways out. IN the Mountains of NC.
The current line will be extended up through NoDa and UNC-Charlotte to the northeastern side of I-485 by 2013, and a commuter rail light is planned north through Huntersville for 2012. Around the first of April, the trolley will also start operating mostly on the LYNX line, adding 4 more stops.
Thanks for posting this! I am excited about the Lynx line and all the positive transit happenings (especially rail) going on in Charlotte. This weekend I am coming up from Columbia, SC just to ride the train a few times. It looks like a success to me!
You're from Cola? No kidding! I am studying there, at USC. You will surely enjoy the ride. And I am not sure whether you should spend $4 for the one-day pass, which is what I did. But nobody checked my ticket!

We really, really need a line from Matthews to Uptown. HWY 74 is a complete and utter joke of poor planing.
