  • THE VERY FIRST TIME I EVER HEARD THIS GEM I GOT UP AND STARTED DANCING RIGHT AWAY. ITS ONE OF THOSE SONGS THAT MAKES YOU DO THAT WITHOUT ACKNOWLEDGING THAT YOU MAKE LOOK DUMB BY DOING SO BUT WHO CARES. YOU FEEL THAT THE RHYTHM IS QUITE GOOD AND SIMPLY FLOW WITH IT. WONDERFUL TUNE FROM THE EARLY 80'S. I CANNOT SAY THAT FROM TODAY'S MUSIC. NO SIR.

  • In the phillipinnes Spanish is spoken by 75 percent of the population please people can't you find another topic of conversation other than racism? I was there when he wrote this anthem to ethnicity and assure you that not mentioning phillipine ethnicity was not a big deal back then...we're all mixed if not one or the other okay?? Enjoy what JB did and give the credit to the mixed breeds which are the great majority in all parts of the world...TheQuing01

  • This is the guy that invented rap, for the incredulous we recognize this anthem to ethnicity by the great Joe Bataan who was heard in just about every corner of the Bronx where I lived in the late 60's, so, fitty cent, p diddy, snoopdog, ice-t, ll cool j and all you guys out there listen to the guy who was decades ahead of his time in the battle cry of the oppressed and the mixed race that made this country great!

  • Me encanta!!!! :)

  • LATINOAMERICA ES MESTIZA HIBRIDA

  • Por Dios...Let's get this all straight...When you call a Filipino, Asian, you are referring I hope to ones geographical location..Filipino is not a race..it is a nationality. The term Filipino was originally coined by the peninsular spaniards (those born in Spain) to the insular spaniards (born in the Philippines). Today's filipinos without any trace of european blood are austro-malayans. ...mil gracias y saludos a todos los hispanicos de todo el mundo..just chill and enjoy Joe's music!!!!

  • Here is the way see it. I am one of 12 kids adopted by my mom and dad. We range from African American- American Indian, Hatian, Jamaican, and Puerto Rican. This song is about how everyone is different and that we can all live together. Peace Love and Happiness will make this world a better place!!!!!!!!!

  • @superfilipino I think he eventually figured out that Bataan is in fact Filipino. It's weird how he escalated so quickly and got so abusive to so many people, only to find out he was wrong in the first place.

  • @1939moreno please read his biography...

  • @1939moreno please read his joe bataan's biography...

  • @superfilipino

Just being color & culturally sensitive to other ethnic groups here in the U.S. Pls. don't use the word negro. It's not politically correct. It's like Filipino americans being called Flips or Gooks... thanks.

    filipino american here..

  • @azianfree1 DUDE IF YOUR FILIPINO AMERICAN YOU SHOULD KNOW IN SPANISH NEGRO MEANS BLACK HAHA HOW IS THAT POLITTICALLY CORRECT.YOU SHOULD CORRECT YOURSELF..IM FROM NEW YORK AND I HEAR SPANISH PEOPLE CALL OTHER BLACK HISPANICS NEGRO.SO THANKS GOODBYE FILIPINO AMERICAN ALSO HERE...PLEASE LEARN THE WORD NEGRO FIRST...AND KNOW THE DIFFERENCE OF BLACK AND NEGRO.THERE BOTH THE SAME BLACK ENGLISH.NEGRO SPANISH..BLACK ENGLISH..NEGRO SPANISH...NEGRO IS BLACK THATS WHAT IT MEANS IN SPANISH./..THANK YOU

  • @superfilipino

Dude, I don't have to correct myself because I am culturally sensitive to other cultures nor do I pretend to be another ethenic group like you do I presume. I happened to speak 4 languages including Spanish, German & Japanese. I totally know what the word negro means in Spanish. But I guess, I don't have to go down to your level I suppose. Good day.

  • didn't he name an album afro-filipino anyway? so i doubt he's ashamed of anything or feels one culture out weighs another but who knows, go find the man yourself and ask.

  • the true latin is the people who lives in the ancient "latium" in rome.

The spanish aren't really latins, his blood is mixed with the north africans, germanics and the north is celt and basque.

    The sudamerican people aren't latins.

  • people of latinoamerica are latins because our lenguage belongs to latin, like the Italian people, french pèople, portuguese people and everybody who come from the mother lenguage like latin, this is not the case with people who speak english, and another lenguages.

    chevere beautiful baby

    i like your disco music

    buena musica disco

    chevere de la ptm

  • Joe is one of the few musical pioneers who popularized & innovators of the Latin Soul, Latin Funk, Latin Jazz & Latin R&B Music in early 60' 70's.

  • Joe was known in the music latin circuit as that Afro-Filipino musician who played Latin Soul music with a twist of english lyrics but with latin sound.

  • Joe Bataan's real name is: Bataan Nitollano.

A product of inter-racial marriage Joe's father was Filipino & mother is African American.. He was born in NY & grew up in a latino (Puertorican) neighborhood.

  • anyway, i dunno dudes DNA background so i dunno his percentage of whatever ethnicity he is. for all we know he is giving it up here cause that is the environment he grew up in or raised by latins. we just know he's proud of mestizos in this song.

  • This is indeed the shit....

    Thanks for posting....

  • AMAZING SONG! GREETINGS FROM PERU!

  • indispensable en kualkier sesion. IMPRESCINDIBLE:

  • I had the pleasure of performing with Joe in NY in the late 80's earlt 90's and he gave me much exposure and I would like to thank him for the chance. I am currently living in Cali still doing my thing with a new salsa band D.M.G. We have a single out that can be heard on 90.7 fm. Thank you Joe for letting me gig with you. Victor Montanrz Jr.

  • Hey Man that's is amazing you performing with Joe.

I remember a lot this song, 'cause it's part of my life.

Wauuu nice to meet you Man.

  • clap your hands

  • Truthfully, we Filipinos can't be categorized. There's no culture that is similar to ours. The best way to describe Filipinos may be to say that we are mestizos of East and West. Unfortunately the Western conquistadors did an excellent job destroying our history, so much of our past has been forgotten.

  • How about, who gives a shit about his race? ENJOY THE MUSIC!!!

  • Amen!

  • Because he cared, it was important to him. One of his albums was called "Young, Gifted & Brown."

So while you "enjoy" the music, why don't you go ahead and actually listen to him.

  • Hey dickhead, thank you for sharing your racism with us. I know of struggle. I'm just as brown as Joe. I have all of his Fania and non-Fania CDs asshole. Think before you speak and go learn something. No racists allowed.

  • Telling you that Joe's race was important to him on a song where the chorus starts with mestizo is "racist?"

The point is that talking about your race isn't automatically negative. Race isn't a dirty word. Your roots, your heritage, are beautiful things that should be shared and talked about. Not hidden.

I'm glad you know this, and I'm glad you like Fania. I'm not going to curse at you or call you a racist, because I don't have enough hate for that. Peace from another brown man.

  • You came out and attacked me. But since you call for peace, I'll follow. Truce accepted.

  • When Joe uses the term mestizo he is talking about the mixing of races. I really do not see the connotation of the word being labeled as racist. If he were pure that is his reality and as long as he does not put down the mestisos, like he does not put down the pure people in this song calling this song as racist is ludicrous to say the least.

  • Sorry, but Brasil is a country made of IMMIGRANTS...it has nothing to do with race...more than 15 5 od popel in the country are anglo-saxon and 50% are white...

  • why is he not mentioning filipinos?? half filipinos like him are called mestizos too

  • probably cause he's closer to his latin roots than his asian side.

  • he has no latino roots, hes half black not half rican, btw. filipino consider themselves as pacific islanders not as asians :)

  • last time i checked, the philippines was under the continent of ASIA not PACIFIC ISLANDS. polynesians, melanesians and micronesians are islanders, filipinos are ASIAN.

  • youre right

  • bro thats cuz after the spanish american war, the government did not know what to do with us, what to call us..so ignorantly without doing any research on our actual roots, they just decided to throw us along with asians becuz of location.. however our culture+language is more related with indigenous roots than asian. but freal, we have no catergorization..ive seen original flips pass for mexican, asian, pacific islander, white, black, and this is before modern colonization

  • either way, the whole point is with this whole discussion is why dude who has whatever percentage of filipino is his genes not giving it up in the song and i pointed out maybe it has to do with the environment he was raised in and that's why he's giving respect in this song. that is just my theory but i am sure you can find his ass someone in NYC and ask him himself what why he didn't talk about his filipino ROOTS in this track.

  • why does he need to pay homage to his roots?

  • i am saying this whole discussion was someone asking why he made this song when he has also or more or only filipino heritage. go ask that person who posted not me. i just gave my theory as to why they might of asked it or why homeboy here made this song and others like it.

  • not true. not all filipinos consider themselves islanders. only the ignorant ones. im filipino i know.

  • im pinoy too lol, i think both is right islanders and asians

  • lol Crysan...thats exactly right. i just dont put us in the same class as samoans or hawaiians. we are unique.

  • His Filipino side IS his Latin roots. You can't generalize, but depending on where you're from in the Philippines and your family history, people still identify with Latin culture. Other Filipinos don't.

It's just hard to generalize about the Philippines at all.

And lilcenzo, those definitions of continents/islands/etc. were invented by Europeans and are pretty much irrelevant to the discussion.

  • and LATIN isn't a european definition...whatever

  • toma ya! increible!

  • muy buena musica ,saludos desde argentina

  • uuuh! seee! Cuesta encontrarlaaa!!! No la escuchaba desde los 15 años! Allá x 1996/1997 :(
