  • There's five characters that have been missed from this sequence Michelle Ryan (Lady Christina de Souza), Lyndsey Duncan (Adelaid), Bernad Cribbens (Wilfred), Karen Gillan (Amy Pond) and Arthur Darvill (Rory).

  • PLUS, I know this came after this video was made, but she got quite an adventure in The Stolen Earth/Journey's End.

  • Except for the Mel scream, I liked the video.

I don't know if Liz got to travel in the TARDIS. If she didn't, then therefore, by extension, she isn't classified as a companion using your logic. And if memory serves me, the Brig did travel in the TARDIS during a Fifth Doctor episode. Yates and Benton, yeah, that's debatable. Also, Jackie Tyler did have a flight in the TARDIS ("My mum's on board.") Granted, that was a hop from the Powell Estate to Canary Wharf, but still a ride nonetheless.

  • That was so fun to watch that Mel's scream took me by utter surprise.

  • Awesome!

  • Who was the one that was dressed like the fourth doctor? Weird

  • @20meerkat Romana!

  • i dont think jack harkness was really a companion

  • u, know i think that the companions are what make dr.who make sense! voz, think about it, without ian/barbara then we wouldn't of even hhad a clue who he was! i wonder who invented them.

    *types it on google*

  • Thank you for using an amazing song, and reminding me why I seek out this sort of video.

  • @WackdProductions Also, and this isn't a complaint, but--you do get that they're not all girls, right? Don't let Jamie's skirt fool you.

  • I love how by the time the Doctor gets to the 21st century, he's kissing everybody! just keepin' up with the times I guess :D

  • The Brigadier was effectively the Second Doctor's companion in the fully official sense (trekking across Gallifrey with him--so he has even been off-planet with the Doctor before) during The Five Doctors--likely because Jamie/Frazer Hines wasn't available for more than a cameo and the Brig became Jamie's fill-in. And The Brig was as much a companion to Three--more so, even--as Liz Shaw--and had more adventures with him to boot. Nick Courtney has spent 40 years playing the Brig and deserves it.

  • 1:35 - 1:38 So Cute!

  • And now Amy and Rory!

  • Funny how Mel's scream is the only other audio apart from the song :)

  • Heh, I like how you had Bonnie Langford's scream in there. Good Lord, that woman could hit some high notes.

  • This is brilliant! Yay for Barbara Wright and Ian Chesterton!

  • Does sally count as a companion- didn't see her

  • :)

    :):)

    :):):)

  • great video!

  • What about Sally Sparrow :)

  • what about her?

  • Bloody brill!

Thanks for including Harry. Loved him a lot! Wish he didn't leave!

  • i couldnt see brigadier he was a companion so u shouldnt have missed him because u have put astrid in and she was not a companion

  • @caitlinlovinu if u read th info bit u would c that lesather didnt include Brigadier becase he was a part of U.N.I.T and not a offical companion, Astrid is considered a companion because she made the ultimate sacrifise for the Doctor and actualy gave her life for him.

  • @MissOyster14 I appreciate your reasoning for including Astrid, but I would argue that she isn't a companion because she didn't travel in the Tardis with the Doctor. There are plenty of characters who sacrificed their lives for the Doctor (the montage in 'Journey's End' shows but a fraction). Going by your reasoning, you would include Jabe from the Forest of Cheem ('The End of the World') and Gwyneth the housemaid ('The Unquiet Dead'), and so many more.

    It's a great video though! I'm addicted!

  • @writingmaniac27

I'd say I agree about Astrid. She's a would-be companion. Together with Lynda, Reinette and Jenny. Someone asked by the Doctor to join him but who died before getting the chance (well... Jenny didn't die...)

  • @MissOyster14 Liz was a part of U.N.I.T. and she never traveled with The Doctor. So why is she counted but not the Brigadeer.

  • could not see charley pollard in there anywhere?????

excellent video, brilliant choice of susan clip to start of.

  • maybe that's because THERE IS NO VIDEO FOOTAGE of Charley Pollard because she was NEVER ON TV.

    just a thought.

  • Cool vid - I think it's good that there's some differences in opinion. Chang Lee counts for me because he was hypnotised, lied to, threatened and killed by the Master before the Tardis brought him back to life and the 8th Doctor's acceptance of him just shows what an extraordinary Doctor he was.

We all could probably argue forever whether Adam was the first "usuitable companion" too.

  • I had a conversation with Yee Jee Tso about this at the recent Chicago TARDIS convention and he pretty much said the same thing. He saw himself being considered a companion to the Doctor because he helped get the 7th Doctor to the hospital, then he gets dupped by the Master into helping him and finally ends up helping the 8th Doctor.

  • I would just like to mention that I consider anyone invited for a ride in the TARDIS is a companion if they accept.

This would includes all in your vid, but also includes the Brig. ( I like Brigadier :) and I think any vid is better with him), but other than that I think this is the best multi-companion vid EVER!!! YAY!!! <3 IT

  • Really good but where's the Brig?,also Captain Yates and Sgt.Benton are classed as companions too.

  • I felt he Brig., Yates & Benton were recurring characters and not companions, since the Doctor's "companions" during that time were actually Liz Shaw, Jo Grant & Sarah Jane Smith. In the new series you wouldn't consider Jackie Tyler a "companion" would you? I also wouldn't have included Mickey Smith if it were based on anything prior to the ending of "School Reunion".

  • honestly, as much as you have a point, I really don't consider Chang Lee a companion, he's as much as a companion to The Doctor as Lucy Saxon

  • Much as I miss the Brig in this one, I'm so happy you included almost *everyone else* AND picked a great (non-angsty) piece of music to go with it. Many kudos and thanks.

  • @lesather

If Liz gets included (Who I may add, was the Doctor's ASSISTANT, and never actually travelled in the TARDIS), then the Brig, Benton and Yates should be too. They were all primarily members of UNIT, and the Brigadier in particular had far more effect on the Doctor's life than Sara Kingdom who only appeared in ONE story, or Katarina who was in two.

  • @lesather

Pff - If ADAM gets to be in it, The Brig AT LEAST should. Just because he wasn't a regular TARDIS traveller that's no excuse to be excluded. He was one of the Doctor's closest friends and they knew eachother for half their respective lives.

Even so - I do love this video.

  • A really wonderful and joyous tribute to all the actors and writers who created these characters. Well done!

  • who is adam mitchell

  • Adam was introduced in the 2005 story "Dalek" and left in the TARDIS with the Doctor and Rose at the end of that episode. His only real story as a 'companion' was "The Long Game". But when he tried to used knowledge of the future to profit himself, the Doctor returned him to Earth and his own time (2012).

  • Nice! Is that Andred (or whatever he's called) with Leela at 1:38?

  • Yes, that is Andred with Leela & K-9. It was Leela's departure scene from "Invasion of Time".

  • Very nicely done. I like how you included a number of transitions with some companions handing over to others. The only companion choice I disagree with was Chang Lee who was the Master's companion. Also, much as I love the song, the reference to "precious girl" in the lyrics was rather jarring when we saw the likes of Harry Sullivan on screen! I'd love to see a revised version of this to include the events of Journey's End.

  • You forget the Brigadier, Yates and Benton.

Most fans dont regard Kamelion as a companion and the U.S film doesn't count

  • Eight does so count! Though, I would have put in the Brigadier, if not the rest of UNIT, he's been with the show since the 60s and he's had at least one excursion in the TARDIS. He could be an honourary companion if nothing else?

Also, Mel's scream made me jump.

  • 8 does not count to me.

No rule says you have to be in the TARDIS to be a companion.

  • Number 8 and the events of the movie may not count in your eyes, but they are officially considered part of the canon, so like it or not, they count.

  • According to whom? I consider most fans more knowledgible than idiots like Russell Davies.

  • So you're excluding Russel Davies as a fan? I find that to be quite short-sighted. And I think you'll find that "most fans" will disagree with your views of Number 8. Regardless, we're all entitled to our opinions.

  • Most fans I know disregarded the movie which is the basis for 8. Davies may be a fan but I feel his interpertation of DW is bad and his force feeding Donna the Cow to an audience who could not stand her was worse

  • Well it's good to see that not everyone has the same opinions of the series. Although I will also say you're the first fellow fan I've encountered who has such strong negative opinions of RTW (and Donna Noble). As far as the canonicity of the movie and Number 8, I will point to the largest DW fansite, Outpost Gallifrey, which does in fact recognize it. I think you and the fans you know are probably in a minority. Regardless, it shows how diverse the fan base is. Thanks for the discussion.

  • I'll check the Outpost at some point.

It may be because I prefer Classic over new, but I stand by remark about Donna (not Catherine Tate)

  • Wow, Donna is the only companion of the new series I could stand (okay NOT the characterization in "The Runaway Bride", but series 4 she ruled). There was none of that 'Dawson's Creek' "Doctor, Doctor...please notice I love you" angst with her. She was very close to an equal to him.

  • Only because Davies transformed this Temp into a superwoman.

He tried to make her into the combination of the best of Sarah Jane and Romana. It did not work for me.

  • I think we have Moffat and Tate to thank for that more than Davies. RTD was a bit tied up with Torchwood.

  • this is awsome!

  • Isn't this the music they played in The Runaway Bride at the wedding party! Excellent love this!:)

  • yes it is

  • I saw that the song was on the 2006 Children In Need special. David Tenant was the host and he mentioned it was on another Children In Need before then too.

  • that's great, I'm so glad you included the whole show and not just the stuff made after 2005, as it's one big show, not just the new and old series. Thanks for making such a great vid.

  • That was very good and well edited.
