Dale Earnhardt Jr. crashed similarly to that last season at Watkins Glen, and Jimmie Johnson had a crash that was worse than this one, that also happened at Watkins Glen, but in the Nationwide series in 2001. And IIRC, there have been other crashes similar to these (NASCAR and V8 Supercars) in other racing series too

@superka70 Ill clear that up for you, that occurred a few years ago in aus, he ran out of room on track when someone did a pass maneuver up the inside of the previous corner, its a fast corner and the when you get a big heavy V8 like that, you dont try and turn on grass (or in the sand for that matter) at those speeds, you just brake. IIRC he was under brakes but they're not overly effective on grass or sand. It was a controversial crash due to theories of barging.
