Have just found your tribute to John Curry, I have to thank you, it was wonderful! I actually wasn't aware he had died, just presumed he was living quietly, possibly in the US. He was my absolute hero back in the day, I sat up all hours to watch him perform when representing Great Britain. He was a beautiful, talented man. So sad that he was misunderstood and apparently suffered terribly emotionally. RIP John, you will always be remembered, not so your detractors!
Floskate - you make the most brilliant montages of John. Your creativity, musicality and timing, extraordinray video skills are amazing. Really, I adored John when I was growing up decades ago and he remains my hero. I was quite devastated by his untimely death and still have a cry when I see him skate so beautifully. Words cannot describe the mourning I have for talent loss in many related arts fields around 80's - thanks so very very much for this tribute to my idol. xx
I'm having a very belated cry over John Curry's death, simply cuz until about 3 hours ago I didn't KNOW he died. Since then I've been on YouTube watching every video feat. him.
Floskate, your tributes to John are by far the most beautiful and well put together tributes I've ever seen about anyone, thank you só much for sharing them with us!!!
@Frutteldier Thank you very much. i'm so glad you liked them and so sorry you just found out about John. It doesn't matter whether it's 3 hours or 3 years, the sense of loss when you watch such brilliance is very hard to take.
@balletmeisterin Thanks for replying back.My hubby and I were in Bratislava a few years ago in Nov.We walked around the old part for a few hours and were in the area of the newly named Nepela rink but didn't see it.We had to wait awhile for the train back to Vienna.People were kinda starting at us as they could tell we were not European.:)
You know, like so many others (and me) John Curry may well have been infected with HIV long before the disease even had a name. In the seventies and the beginning of the eighties no one knew that the disease existed, let alone how to protect yourself against it.
What an amazingly beautiful montage. So appropriate an honor to a most beautiful dancer (and I do mean dancer-not only a skater). I love your visual representations. I think that they do a tremendous job of capturing Curry's essence in movement. Thank you
This is an incredible and moving tribute to one of the world's greatest skaters.
How much more precious the postings by Floskate have become due to the absence of John Curry's talent, artistry, athleticism and choreography which are lost in today's emphasis on jumping.
Thanks, Floskate for posting this tribute as well as other items relating to this great skater.
John Curry is the best skater in history. No one has even come close to his balance of art and athletics. Everytime figure skating season comes around, I expect him to show up but I have to remind myself that he is gone. Everytime I see this video, it makes me cry.I regret that I didn't see him perform in person. He was beautiful and I miss him terribly. Rest in peace, John.
I skated with John around the world and in a PBS special The Snow Queen and it was one of the highlights of my career. John refined the artistry that Toller brought to the skating world. He demanded a lot from those that worked with him and worked tirelessly to bring the skating world into the world of dance. This was definitely the golden age of men's skating!
Floskate, your tributes to this wonderful skater are eclipsed only by John Curry's brilliance. I especially loved your inclusion of the music from "Cinema Paridiso," one of my favorite movies and musical scores. Sigh...I would have loved to see him interpret it.
Oh, another exquisite video montage. Really, this has moved me to tears.....so sad to lose such a gifted and beautiful man so prematurely......and again I am desperate to know who composed the music/name of piece that I hear at around 1" into the video.
Oh floskate, what a marvellous montage! Really a wonderful tribute to a man who also changed male figure skating forever. I was lucky to see him perform in Denmark and Sweden as an Olympic and World Champion in 1976. Thanks very much for sharing this!
You do honor to John Curry by continuing to share his legacy with those who were not fortunate enough to know his enormous contribution to the history of skating; assuring that he will never be forgotten!

One of the very few people, past or present, who ever skated TO the music. A true artist and my absolute favorite.

I wonder if he and Ondrej Nepela ever were together?Toller Cranston wrote about him and Nepela in 1973.
HattieLovesCattie 1 year ago
@HattieLovesCattie Yes, its' true, because Ondrej told me!

@balletmeisterin Ok,whatever you say. What happened to Ondrej's parents? Are they still alive?Did he have any family or cousins?
HattieLovesCattie 1 month ago
@HattieLovesCattie He never spoke much about his family but I think he had a sister. I expect that his parents are dead by now.

so many talented guys die so young, why can't they just put something on the end of it, it;s heartbreaking

My coach actually knew John Curry, when he was skating as a professional in the UK.
Apparently John was a really lovely person as well as an exquisite skater.
Sorely missed.
