"meisje" is diminutive, so it's a neuter word: het meisje - dat meisje

"jongen" is a male word: de jongen - die jongen

1. hmm ik weet niet precies waarom maar 'dat jongen' klinkt een beetje raar en 'die meisje' ook. moet je gewoon leren denk ik. ook zo bij voorwerpen zoals 'die fles' en niet 'dat fles'. en het is 'die kaars' en niet 'dat kaars'.

2. nee dat is een foutje dat staat onderdaan '(OMG! I made a fault. It has to be 'HELPT in stead of HEBT. 'Jij hebt = You have'. 'To help = Helpen' Sorry!)'

can you please also explain how the dutch "ui" is pronounced? I'm totally confused because sometimes I understand it like "ow" in "cow" and sometimes more like "ö" + "j" what's right??? and the "eu" I always hear it like an "o" (leuk) but my grammar says i's more "ö"

kunnen we een les over " continuous sentence" astublijft? bijvoorbeld, ik was aan het slapen, ik was aan lezen, ik was televisie aan kijken etc... do we have to use "aan" to make continuous sentense always or not?

Yes, "aan het" is compulsory when you want to make a continuous sentence. So: Ik was aan het slapen = I was sleeping, Ik was aan het lezen = I was reading, Ik was televisie aan het kijken = I was watching television.

Alternatively you could say "zat te", "stond te", "liep te" or "lag te" when you when to emphasise the way you were doing things:

Ik lag te slapen = I was lying down while I was sleeping; Ik zat te lezen = I was sitting down when I was reading; Ik liep te bellen met mijn moeder = I was walking around, talking on the phone with my mum; Ik stond te praten met mijn vriend = I was standing up, talking to my friend.
