My great Granddad was the signal man here for donkeys years, in 1941 on the 18th of jan a train was passing through, when watch from his signal box he looked up and saw some german planes shooting and dropping bombs, I have the actual statement he filled out of the accounts that happened that day.. For obvious reasons I would like to be in contact with anyone that had worked here, please contact me on rickgray88@hotmail.com
I find this funny somehow. If someone from abroad asked me what rail travel in the UK is like, I'd show them this clip...it sums it up in so many different ways its kind of ironic lol. This is such a busy line aswell, I can't imagine why it wasn't automated years ago!? The GEML is a blast from the past!
This is so rare to come across in todays day and age , absolutely amazing , this must surely never be dismantled or touched as its rare british history still operating in todays complicated technological world
Yes it appears not to be a job for sleeping on, but I think not for much longer as I assume all the new equipment is for controlling an automated crossing.
I hope the old gates go somewhere appropriate like a steam railway.

Thanks for that info!
I was told that there is still a man there but I assume he will go once the CCTV is operational.
I will make an updated video later this year.

So that's what they do with them these days!
In the past there used to be a place at Euston that flogged old BR gear but I guess that is long gone.

It is an odd leftover but I think that will go soon.

It surprised me that this still happens on what is a busy main line but probably not for much longer.
Hopefully the gates will be used elsewhere.

wow that man must have a very busy job - shows how much the GEML is in need of investment from network rail
