Even though he's originally from Venezuela, Omar Vizquel is one of the last All-American baseball players, from the days when players worked hard on the field, no steroids, no big endorsements, no mega-millionaire contracts, no tattoos or piercings, no scandals, and they were an example of good honest wholesome family values. Omar Vizquel will be a Hall of Famer not just because of his shortstop stats but because he represents the spririt of what baseball is all about (dead values nowadays).
There was a video I saw where he was called 'The Magician'. That does not do him justice. To me, he will always be the greatest defensive shortstop in the history of the game. I have an Omar bobblehead on my dashboard right now. Got it at a yard sale for fifty cents. Best half dollar I ever spent.
hargrove came back as an advisor now all we need is kenny to come back as a outfeild coach omar infield coach and jim to retire and come back as a hitting coach and it will be the summer of dreams o yeah and we need to keep sandy almor jr as first base coach
@rkteen619 Don't forget we got Travis Fryman in there at defensive coordinator. There's a magic in Cleveland that brings them back at the end of their careers. Rapid Robert knew it better than anyone. Keep pitching Bob.
@jstutz2003 he is? i thought he was the manager for the scrappers i live right down the street from the stadium and i didnt know he left. o well its good the tribe has him and yesRapid Robert did know keep pitching Bob we miss you
Each night I pray to God that he comes here to manage. We love you Omar. You WERE the time of our lives. (Of course so were the rest of the 90's Indians, but Omar may be the best defensive shortstop of all time).
I totally agree w all of u. im a hardcore Dodger fan and live in LA..I loved watching Omar and Ozzie play, the 2 greatest defensive shortstops to ever play....INCREDIBLE talent and skilll.....growing up w try imitate there plays....They were great for baseball....I hope someone does make a good highlight video of them two.....
Why in the world did the Indians let him go? It would have been so great for him to play his last few years, in which he played very well by the way, in Cleveland. It was stupid to let him go considering he's a shoe in to the Hall of Fame. What jersey will he be inducted with?
Omar!!!! what a great video.this really shows how great the Tribe fans are as well..i hear that omar is thinking about becoming a manager after his playing days..how awesome would it be to have him as the skipper of the tribe!! GO OMAR AND GO TRIBE!!
I miss those days. OMAR! OMAR! OMAR! Can you believe I am tearing up? Such great memories. Especially going to the 95 and 97 world series. These were some classy guys.
I love Omar --- thanks for letting him go Indians... so us Giants fans could enjoy the brilliance of the best defensive short stop ever for a few seasons. Omar is the greatest guy a true asset to the game!!! Go Giants!
Best defensive shortstop ever, including Ozzie Smith... I wish someone would put a three- or four-minute compilation of his career defensive highlights somewhere on YouTube... I know this shows the scoreboard highlights, but it's kinda hard to see.
Indeed he was one of if not the best defensive shortstops ever. But the one thing he never gets credit for is his amazing ability to get a hit in the clutch.
I can remember many games broken wide open because Omar came to the plate with 2 men on and 2 outs and they absolutely needed a hit.
I am a lifetime Giants fan and feel honored to have Omar so appreciated upon his return to Cleveland. Truly first-class fans. You are all lucky to have seen him play for so long.
OMAR VIZQUEL my my favorite player of all my life, my dad and him are great friend but always they see each other im not with my dad =(........... i was thinking he retired last year is he still playing???
Ditto what janepublishing said, except for the cat part.
I became a Vizquel fan as my fantasy baseball team turned me into a fan of the 90's Indians and have been thrilled that Omar came to SF. He is a joy to watch and one cool dude.
Thanks for posting this! Giants fan here who is savoring every moment with Omar. He's the classiest guy in the game who I fell in love with immediately! (I even named my cat after him!)
no doubt Omar will be inducted to the HOF with the Cleveland Indians uniform ...

Omar could actually play first second short and third at the same time, but he was too nice to show up his teammates.
