Don't feel bad about that, They're really not scary, if you fought the husks at eden prime the creepers are nothing like that, They spit green stuff at you if you get close those, Just Pull Out ur AR and drop em

Though the confrontation dialogue makes less sense without her.

NP. For the second part, Benezia won't follow (depends on difficulty mode though), so it's probably best to leg it out of the area and kill the guards first, then attack Benezia.

It can be quite a tough battle, but there are ways around this. Getting behind the Rachni cage stops Benezia's direct attacks (line of sight). Also, I raced though it as my character can take a pretty hefty beating, but taking time to recoup is a useful tactic, especially when the geth turn up as they tend to stay put.

what shotgun are you using and how high is your shotgun stat?

I checked a save game as I couldn't quite recall. I was using a Katana VII and my shotgun skill was maxed out.
