there is a few pilot errors made too much brake on the right hand side,, taking off on a cliff which is totally nuts for loads of reasons,, ie rotar, thing that saved his ass was the wing ,which has an excepitional recovery.. if this was a paraglider you would surely have been killed my man..the speed wing is a very rigid and versitile piece of kit which has a more rapid response than your normal paraglider. fly safe....hands up and run run run

Launching a paraglider (or speed wing) in vertical cliffs is possible, but wind factor and turbulence is a mayor concern..this is an example of bad judgement of the conditions for the shape of the terrain+ wind..

@dsmdeegen It's not a base jump because (a) that's not a jump chute and (b) it's not "deployed early", it's deliberately unpacked, laid out and inflated on the ground before launch. BASE jumping by definition involves a period, however short, of freefall, and the use of a chute that will survive freefall deployment. The wing in this video is attached with lines that would snap if you tried to deploy it in freefall.

That is the craziest thing I've ever seen. That is a pretty darn good example of why you get REAL instruction before you do stuff like that. Mastering the basic skills and fundamentals can easily be the difference between life & death. Watch my training videos on the 5-6 long days you should spend as a minimum to master glider control BEFORE you start flying. Dang this video is ugly. Wow. Talk about training with the usppascam lol. @thermalf First, let's get one thing straight. There is NO cliff involved in paragliding! There is NO jumping involved in paragliding either. This guy was lucky, damn lucky! Launches are made on slopes, and not necessarily even steep slopes. With a 5 mph headwind, you can bring your wing overhead, turn, take a step or two, and are LIFTED from the mountain. As for schools, lookup Seattle Paragliding in Issaquah, Wa.

Wasn't supposed to be a "BASE" jump. This speedflyer needed more brake input to stop the frontal collapse. It always helps to check your wing before you just run off. So, agree with everyone else: This does not depict BASE jumping. This was supposed to be a ground launch.

@nutellaontoast WHAT HE DID WRONG: he hesitated in the run, once you are committed to the launch, GO AS HARD AS YOU CAN UNTIL YOU ARE WELL IN THE AIR. Second, he had zero brake input, On a launch where there is low wind, it is good to have a little brake pressure. This stops the glider from diving ahead and collapsing like in this video. Cliff launches are not the technical launches, but they are pretty judgement intensive. This should not have happened.

There are several factors in this video that are not apparent. The glider was modified.
