  • 2:52 In Russia? XD

  • An amazing train in a beautiful winter landscape well filmed. Thumbs up! :)

  • did you go through the junkyard?

  • Great video

  • una belva infuriata ...

  • That engine sounds kind of tired at 4:02 lol!

  • thanks for this its a lovely video I enjoyed every second of it cheers

  • I love steam trains, the excitement of hearing them coming before you can see them, nothing compares to them - this video is fab!

  • man the Canadian National had some of the nicest sounding whistles ever!

  • love steam in the snow!!

  • 1:50-2:20 is my favorite part. Excellent vantage point. and the sound echoing; simply amazing.

  • Is there an HD version of this? Perhaps a DVD for sale? This is awesome

  • her whistle is so powerful, it could make anyones head turn...

  • Muito bom..

  • With the high cost of diesel fuel, they should bring more & more steamers back. :-)

  • @Landaux agreed :)

  • @Landaux

Unfortunately, though the boilers on steam engines are rather efficient (80+ %), by the time the power is transmitted to the rail, it is about 3%. Diesels have a greater efficiency and were far more reliable (steam engines spent a great deal of time in the shops) and way less labor intensive and thereby became a no-brainer replacement for motive power. External combustion engines were never very efficient.

That being said, I love steam engines!

  • great vid,my two favorite things, steam trains and cold snowy weather, that cold is perfect for listening to the whistle,it carries along way!

  • Whats the thing on the top that looks like a small cylinder ?

  • @GreenDragon2001317

That is called a feedwater heater, kind of like a preheater for the water coming from the tender on its way to the boiler. Basically the energy saved (by raising the water up a few degrees) by preheating the water is that much less that have to be taken from the firebox; the energy would otherwise be wasted heat.

  • @grunk001 Thanks!!!

  • I really don't care for the whole train/steam obsession - but I r e a l l y enjoyed the winter landscape with the steamtrain soundscape. Being an expat Northerner in the southern hemisphere subtropics this was such an excellent space-time-travel sequence!

Love it. cheers for that, mate!

  • Fusco: this is an excellent piece of film/video. Steady, solid shots, with no shaking or wasted zooms and pans. Good framing and constant focus. Simple, straightforward editing. I congratulate you and thank you for such good work.

  • Nice footage

  • Excellent presentation, thanks for posting.

  • Fantastic sound, fantastic steam clouds :)

  • Beautiful video! Nothing beats the sounds and sights of steam.

  • i hate these train..look how much damage they do to the nature

  • @ZorkwanM Yes, steam is a real threat...

  • boy is she smoky. I'm surprised the EPA doesn't have a heart attack when they see these things. I'm sure 10 years from now some liberal president is gonna outlaw steam locomotives.

  • @USMCnBNSFdude

That's a very liberal statement. Antique cars and steam boats aren't outlawed...

  • @m173627 well I'm sure they will be then ;)

    ^ sarcasm ^

  • Super Bilder, Super Sound.

  • Nice video and fantastic sound ! The stereo with the headphones is wonderful !

  • My toddler son loved watching this. I did too!

  • 12 people never got a train for christmas.

  • That is a wicked engine. We take these types of things for granted nowadays but just imagine these things back in the 1800s and how powerful they must have looked to the people with all that sound and smoke.

  • im gonna be so happy if thats the Polar Express

  • That sound is haunting

  • do ya live in pa to and where i live in halifax pa

  • Watching the train pass Gouldsboro station, I just had to smile, thinking back on my childhood at the station in my small town where the Maine Central Railroad passed by every day after school. great video...

  • for those ho would like do research answer this "does the CN #3254 whistle and McCloud #25 sound the same?"

  • VERY GOOD VIDEO . THANKS FOR POSTING

  • Looks like valcano eruption. Whats the top speed of these steam locomotives? Good video.

  • @rangy8888 Your answer is in the Old West documentary titled, Back to the Future: Part 3.

  • Are you allowed to get tickets to go in the cab?

  • o som STEREO muuito boom!!

  • Great video. Very well done!

  • The first 22 seconds alone are worth the viewing.

  • Outstanding job....thank you for the thrills!

  • 1:51 is the most amazing shot I have ever seen and heard!! :D :D :D :D 9000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000/5 stars

  • Why do we always use Canadian National locos? We have Grand Trunk, Illinois Central, CNJ locos up in Scranton, why can't we use American Locos?

  • @rustyshackleford1996

The Boston and Maine are being restored as off now.

The others are will come next..

  • @rustyshackleford1996 because while it would be nice to run those locomotives they are just dissplay locomotives.they were ither to far off to start rebuilding or they are just there for dissplay and waiting who knows some day maybe they will.but right now restoring three locomotives(#26,#3713,#565,and soon to be #2317)Right now is not the best of times to start a new locomotive.

  • moscow? i didnt know steam town went all the way to russia?

  • Well done JMF. We have enjoyed watching this video. Australia.

  • Finally they are running steam in steamtown!!!

  • @MrAwesome1361

They have been running steam in Steamtown since 1986

When the park service took it over from Steamtown USA..

  • just love that sound of the train comeing just after 3:30!

  • The lonsome bone shivering sound of the train whistle... there is nothing else like it. I grew up aside a rr track in the 1940's.... I could here the rumble of a 100 car freight miles off, and that lonesome whistle!

  • Thank you...it's a beautful thing. What a locomotive is supposed to look and sound like.

  • What state is this steamtown in?

  • @thebigbill53 its in Scranton,PA

  • steam engines are usually STATIONARYor in other words they dont move .steam locomotives move and yes on rails steam engines were like used at the inclind plains at ashly,PA to haul the cars up the mountain

  • i have no clue what all this is about with these two people but i think this video is fantastic i love 2-8-2s they rock!

oh and if the debate is about what i think it is a steam engine is usually stationary and steam locomotive moves.diesels have horn steam locomotives have whistles dont know if this has anything to do with it but just puttin in my part

    jean noel

    *****

    8-)

  • 1:50 to 2:18 is amazing! The distance from the tracks makes the whistle sound like a far off, lonesome cry. Perfect. Just perfect.

  • That was beautifully shot and put together - thanks.

  • what kind of engine is that engine? like wheel and all that

  • its a 2-8-2 mikado.

  • that CN steamer has a beutifull whistle on it

  • OMG

    Thats wunderful!! I like it.

  • Beautiful video, Joe. I remember we chased this day as well. It was -4 degrees leaving Scranton and we saw them when they lost the air in the line under 81.

  • 1000/1000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i love it watched it 9 times already :), im a big fan of 3254, never seen it in person tho, weird also, i live rather close(if 2&1/2 hours away is close)

  • WOW, what a neat video, superb!

  • świetny film !!! Uznanie !

  • Beautiful and professionally done video. You've managed to capture one of the few remaining recreations of a bygone period of our history. I tip my hat to you!

  • @Marjon1254 we need bullet trains now

  • talk about stack talk and a plume coming out of Scranton, WOW! 5/5!

  • Incredible sounds! SUPER!

  • SUPER!!!!!!

  • Lovely old Mike.

  • awsome video it really is i like how is has all the stack talk and the everything is really nice

  • When i was a kid this train ran from Bellows Falls Vermont to my hometown. Every day in the summer she rolled into town around lunchtime. I thought every town had a steam train. I love steam power. I'd appreciate it today. Wish we still had her.

  • yea i guess the operations in Bellows Falls were really good. Shame they couldn't operate 2317 up there, and they hadn;t acquired 3254 yet...

  • Stuning !!!!

  • 3254 is stuning

  • Very nice.

    btw, Gouldsboro has one R.

  • nice vid...i didn't know you made one till today.

  • I LOVE STEAM TRAINS

  • Nicely done video, I can tell you have an HD camera. However the train looks very dark on my display with little detail on the cars or engine being visible as they pass. The day looks dim and the snow is grayish. Is that my monitor going or is it the YouTube conversion darkening it?

  • I think it's just you.

Everyone else I've talked to says it looks fine.

  • Very nice! I love steam in the snow. What camera did you film this with?

  • Greta video.

    Joe

  • Outstanding!

    EBTMikado

  • nice job joe. see you in cass

    RioGrandeMan

  • Awesome video Joe and great editing!!! You always impress.

  • As always gorgeous video! Thanks for posting it.

  • Steam in the snow! Love it, and great job as always!

  • Excellent! Thank you for posting this.

The rolling stock of the steam era (and since) were seldom in a shiney, just-out-of-the-box immaculate condition. It would have been vitually impossible to keep them that way. I think these passenger cars look authentic

  • Joe, once again, another amazing video!!!!! Keep up the great work!

  • great video 5 stars!!!

  • Mr. Fusco Once Again 2 Thumbs UP

thanks so much for sharing online

our beloved girl. She's some sweet

    Steve in Eastern Ontario Canada...

    Sadly The steam FREE ZONE.....

  • the paint job on those CNJ coaches, i think have seen better times. kind of sad to look at them at their current condition. but otherwise, good video joe.

  • Great video as usual. Hope they get the 2317 back out for excursions this year.

  • Great Job! 5 Star. Can't Wait For The Next Video.
