So epic. The HDR blending and color grading is spot on (as usual!). I did a workflow tutorial because a lot of people were asking if you are interested: watch?v=bdtLZUS92Vw
fantastic footage and edit .....Im using a panasonic HMC151 ...and a sony a55 DSLR ....imwanting toupgrade the sony ...do i go DSLR, or do i leave it all behind and go panasonic ac160 ...any thoughts would be appreciated !!!!!
Just curious as to how you got so little ghosting in the video. Are you using the default raw.mov and virtualdub technique? Mine have all had too much ghosting to actually use in a project comfortable. I am wondering when someone will come up with a script for twixtor to interpolate the frames, seems like it would do a much better job.
FRICK someone needs to hack the NEX 5N. 1080p60 with HDR would be sick in a camera that small.... Would be perfect for me :/ Well I am a programmer, maybe I should do it.
@JetOuterBlack you get a frame with one exposure and the next frame will be the next exposure. it films it like its "flickering" back and forth between the two exposures you set. then you interpolate them together in post.
this HDR isnt as i guess what i was expecting, if you've seen the HDR on canon 5D mkII where they use two cameras it has more of a glowing effect around the people it looks really nice actually.
@imask8r That's all done in Editing. You could totally do that with this method...I just prefer using the extra Dynamic Range to enhance the overall look. I don't want to make it look surreal, I just want to make it look like a camera with really high Dynamic Range.
@Neumannfilms But that is a look you can get? wow..yeh man ill be waiting on that tutorial i havent been using the HDR mode yet but i turned it on seems really interesting and useful
@Neumannfilms haha how you liking it? i just got it for t3i and it does have HDR video. im slightly upset it doesnt have the manual audio adjustments like you get on the t2i's version:/
@imask8r I'm liking it! I want to find a better way to do post though. Don't like compressing to JPEG right out of the gate and I don't like the motion artifacts. I'm sure we will see improvements. I can't complain though...it's HDR video!! Some of the shots we got yesterday would be impossible to expose otherwise.
@Neumannfilms Cool! I couldn't make sense of the recommended workflow, so I've been experimenting with after effects. Time remapping to 50% and using blending modes or a luma key gives interesting results, you should give it a try!
@gskowal I crushed the blacks because I hate the "HDR" look. Having this much latitude really allows you to punch up the image and add Contrast where before, the shadows might be lost at Contrast of +20, you can now go up to +50.
the capabilities of this camera still amaze me overtime i get mine out. its amazing what you can do with just a low budget camera without having to bring around thousands of dollars worth of equipment.
The HDR looks good, It would be nice if you had before and after shots so then we can really see the difference between a normal issue and then the HDR version.
@crazychristian28 Agreed, though you really can see the difference in the forest alone. Detail in the leaves with a properly exposed sky is pretty amazing.. that's gotta be at least a few stops outside of the regular dynamic range in difference
Looks really good, I wish I could walk up a mountain and do some filming (or drive, but I am not 17 yet), I live in the fenlands, which is the flattest place in the UK
Could you probably realy do a Video about shooting a HDR Video? And also a thing that would be very interesting is in generell how to the Magic Lantern Software well! I've got the Software for 'bout 2 Months and still not sure if I use everything correctly. Greetings from Germany, btw incredible shots!
@BallpenEater "HDR (High Dynamic Range) is performed in camera by capturing two different ISO values. Most of these shots were at ISO 100-800 or 200-1600. Those two streams are then split and re-fused back together in post production to produce the HDR video." <-- in the description to this video.
@BallpenEater He used the new Magic Lantern for Canon. I don't know how to use it as I have a Nikon, but im sure in the settings of Magic Lantern there's an option for HDR video/multiple ISO settings.
I'm definitely getting the new ML right now! Thanks for keeping me updated! I've been following you guys since the hotcast zombie days! This is my new channel I just started. Couldn't of done it without ya. Seriously, you guys inspired me to buy a T2i and start Animfantastic! You are my film school. Love ya guys, Happy Holidays n Merry Christmas =0) - Daniel James

How did you manage the framerate? Im sure you need double framerate, that means you need 50 fps, but 5D mkII runs only 25 fps... So, how?
