  • Gay marriage should not even be up for a vote .. there is no good reason to not allow it .. voters or not, religious views should not have any place in the making of laws. Allowing it does not effect anyone in any way ... your right ncweb76, they are very very ignorant.

  • BRAVO!

  • Dude im totall with you on this one. Im not gay but i think its just rediculous that people can't except that........ well you know what im saying. But yeah, like all these other people said. Great videos, im totally subscribing

  • I really feel for the gay and lesbian community in the USA - so sad that such a great democracy should be so backward when it comes to human rights.

  • how would i find out what new mexico is doing to pass same sex marriage ?

  • But we have one tha same problem. To much conservative people around and theirs to huge trust into their ideas. Thanks. You`re really wise person

  • You`re so right. In my country gay people have nearly no rights.... It`s sad ... Violence and anger sometimes here is really dangerous for gay people lives... Marriage? No way.... I`m jealous a little about that in USA you have more simlply live than us.

  • Love you Y'all still. I can't tell you how much your accent gets to me and I truly value or views and I'm so happy that you are standing up for what you believe! I'll be watching and sharing with all I know! Keep em coming! I hope you make it to a bigger audience! Give it time! Ta Da doll! And Best of Luck!

  • the battle is between two ' wolves ' inside us all.. One is Evil. -is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.The other is Good. - It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith. ' ' Which wolf wins? '

The old Cherokee simply replied, ' The one you feed. '

  • I applaud Maine's attempt to legalize it. But, alas, even though Portland and Augusta are pretty liberal cities, northern Maine is redneck central. I'm sure they are ten times more backwoods than people from the southeast.

  • Civil unions exist. Also many companies now offer same sex benefits.

Moreover, I agree with you. Marriage is supposed to be a "sacred institution" right? Well, my question is: were Adam and Eve married? Why didn't God marry them, and teach them the ceremony and explain the meaning of the vows? They weren't married by God. In fact, they weren't married, period. Later on in the Bible they started using the word marriage as if it were understood. It's a man-made institution...not sacred.

  • Thankfully those "concerned women" are a dying breed. Bunch of old hags who don't have a clue about anything in the real world.

  • Seem like a cool person. I simply disagree and think marriage is man + woman. I see "gays" as more trying to just get approval of their lifestyle than wanting marriage. The reason I say this is because you can live with who you want today and mind your business.

  • marriage is a ceremony that is meant for man & woman.

    you know, bride & groom?

gays & a marraige ceremony is like a non-jew having a Bar Mitzvah, or a a white american dressing up as a native american & doing a rain dance.

Its doesn't belong. & its dis-respectful to mock the ceremony like that.

civil unions do deserve all legal rights/benefits as marriage though.

But even if civil unions got the same legal rights, i bet gays still wont be happy. Its not about the rights, it never was.

  • It is an equal rights issue, but civil unions are not the same as a marriage...no point in debating with you...I can tell the ignorance runs deep.

  • @chadmak09, only because you say so. anything can change at any time. it is called evolution. sorry you are still at the neanderthalman stage

  • I would like to talk more about this issue with you. I know many in the closet gay politicians whom keep quiet when they are the very ones who should be helping us. I also know straight politicians and know of famous straight people who could make a difference for us. Nobody wants to put their neck out and fight the Conservative Christians. Wendy Wright is a complete moron who believes that we have an agenda and that all gays are petifiles. In the end we will have our rights. I hope to see that!

  • Yes Nick, This was a dissapointing loss for us. You said something that worries me. I am very proud to be gay and after spending 40 years of my life watching how these Conservative Christians act and the hate that they have for all humans that do not share what they believe in makes me ill and if I had a choice in the matter of being gay I would choose to be gay. I am very proud of who I am and I refuse to bring myself to hate even those who hate me for being who I am.

  • What are the dangers of a pure democracy ? These dangers include the suppression of rights and freedoms, in which a pure democracy fails to protect human rights; the encouragement of conflict, where democracy fosters antagonism both domestically and abroad; the tyranny of the majority, where the desires of minority groups are overruled by the will of the majority ~Samir Haddad~

  • i argee with you 100%

  • ncweb76, let me be the 1st to say that I fully agree with you 100%. Marriage is not about Christian faith or about indoctrination. I was a civil rights attorney, and same-sex couples have every right to marry just as the hetero community does (not many people would agree on that because they're too busy imposing their Christian views on gay marriages, stating that it's wrong and immoral, but who cares what they say?). 5 stars all the way & faved :-D Thank you so much for sharing your views :-D

  • there is not a single amendment that would confer a right to same sex marriage

  • And?

  • Nick, I completely agree with you as well. I believe EVERY human being has rights. It's really sad when those rights are denied or taken away. Ignorance is so abundant on this planet, and no one seems to WANT to understand or learn about others. I myself believe in tolerance, being who you are regardless of what others think of you. Hearing about people's rights being taken away from them, really upsets me as well. Very well said Nick, thank you for sharing this.

  • civil unions should be established for gay people to join. And those civil unions should have all the legal benefits as marriage. So gay unions will get the same rights as married couples.

But gay couples should not be able to call themselves "married". This degrades the foundation of marrriage established in america. Marriage is a union between a man and a woman. Civil union is a union between same sex couples.

both should get the same legal benefits.

  • that is the same as saying you black people use this water fountain which gives the same water...but white people use this other water fountain. Its not the same. Why should our unions be second class. "Foundation of marriage" please don't tell me its some scared institution since its regarded as nothing more than a piece of paper by a majority of straight married couples. At least to gay people it means something..

  • your analogy to homosexuality and race is misguided. being gay may or may not be a choice but living the gay lifestyle is a choice and that's why we are here. the government doesn't ask you whether you are gay or straight. sexual orientation has nothing to do with the issue.you can't compare an immutable characteristic (race gender etc) to somebody's behavior. A lifestyle is not a minority. Jews, blacks, and women were discriminated against for who they were not for who they were having sex with

  • so according to you we have a lovely choice. We have the choice to live the lifestyle or not. So we have a choice to be happy or not be happy. Homosexuality is not a behavior...its who we are. Did you choose to live your lifestyle. In your definition then being straight would be a behavior. Did you make the choice to be straight? I also beg to differ on the race comparison. No one has a choice what race they are and no one has a choice about their orientation.

  • in no way do we in society accept behaviors as one in the same with the individual's desire to live out that way. According to your logic, we should and are suppose to accept pedophilia, polygamy (bisexuals), adulterers, alcoholics, and kleptomaniacs. there is no evidence of a gay gene and there are many situations where gays have abandoned the lifestyle and found a straight one through divine conviction and reparable therapy. so unlike women, blacks, and the handicap, its debatable. FREE WILL

  • on the point of gays that "turned straight" through some form of intervention. If it wasn't for people like yourself and society's pressures then it very likely that they would not be living a lie to fit the needs of everyone else. If a person is gay and not just experimenting then there is no changing only living a miserable existence for the satisfaction of society.

  • @kenballer00 by the statements you made to nc talking about reparative therapy(pseudo-psychological bullshit) or praying the gay away, you have no respect for gay folks AT ALL.marriage or not. again it all comes down to the fear of rigid gender roles of masculine and feminine that has your skin crawling

  • continuing....

therefore, Same sex couples do not have a SPECIAL right to redefine marriage for everybody else; the " will of the people" have a FUNDAMENTAL right under the tenth amendment to do such a task because we live in a democracy not an aristocracy. In baker v. nelson, the case called citizens for equal protection will show you that citizens do have a right to vote on rights just as long as they are NEW rights , such as same sex marriage.

  • @kenballer00 ever hear of the bill of rights, that protects ALL MINORITIES from the tyranny of a majority

  • they should not be able to repress people...

  • you are very confused ncweb76,

blacks and women were born black and a woman. Gays were not born gay. They made a choice to be "gay".

Comparing someone who practices homosexual behavior with civil rights and womens rights movements is a slap in the face to blacks and women.

  • How do you know gay people make a choice? Do you make a choice of your sexuality? I don't. I am attracted to whom I am attracted to by nature. Gay people are born gay.

  • I didnt have to make a choice of sexuality, nature did it for me by assigning me my genitialia.

If youre born a man then you are born to be with women, and vice versa.

A 5 year old gets this.

But U people want to claim people cant help what they are attracted to. Like they were born that way and theres no choice.

Next, You'll claim that child molesters were born attracted to children and its not thier fault and they didn't have a choice.

you'll claim theres a "Pedophile gene".

    same concept

  • "If you're born a man then you are born to be with women" that is obviously a false statement. If that were the case for all human males, then there wouldn't be homosexuals. Grow up and stop thinking like a 5 year old. Sex has as many dimensions as everything else in nature. It is not the black and white churches preach.

Two mature adults falling in love does not equate to a pedophile attraction. And most pedophiles are heterosexual males.

  • or could it be that its so simple that even a 5 year old can figure it out?

Why do you gay marriage supporters have to be such bigots?

you treat anyone that disagrees with you as if they are just crazy or a religious nut.

You resort to childish namecalling to anyone that thinks different than you do.

    Thats the definition of bigorty.

Stop trying to push your way of thinking on others and stop labeling anyone with a different opinion as hatemongers or biblethumpers.

    Open your mind a little.

  • I called no one a name. You are the one who is claiming to know what it is like to be a gay man when you aren't one. I KNOW what it is like to be gay. You do not.

I know I was not born to be with a woman. Your saying I was.. when you are not gay shows that your mind is the one that needs expanding. I push my way of thinking on no one. You are the one saying I am not meant to do this.. and should not marry whom I love. Stop pushing your thinking on me.

  • I forgot I woke up today and chose to wear jeans and be gay..... yup, that was the decision today!

  • You are an idiot! Study genetics fool!

  • see, you cant carry a civil conversation.

You just attack anyone with a different opinion. U remind me of the christians or the republicans and fox news.

You label and attack anyone with a different opinion. And then claim to be "fair and balanced".

Maybe you should try acting like an adult and open your mind, you may learn something.

Noone is saying your a bad person for being gay, so stop being so defensive.

we just think consider marriage a bond between man and woman like most cultures.

  • and...we think that marriage is between two people who happen to love each other very much that deserve to have the same rights as you.

  • @kenballer00 what is it about being gay that threatens straight guys? is the fear of being hit on. you have the right to say no. i'm not gay. and don't say that it's condemned by the bible. that is so old and cliche. and i really don't buy it for a second. is it that you see gay guys as not being you or your parents concept of masculinity. or is it the challenge of outdated ideas of gender identity or gender roles. those should have dissappeared a long time ago.

  • there's nothing with being gay. i am talking about redefining marriage. there is simply no logical or factual basis behind doing such a thing

  • @chadmak09 isn't it really all about 2 men identifying as "husband and wife" or 2 women in the same situation that makes your skin crawl. fess up. the traditional idea of marriage creates gender identities. man=husband. woman=wife. here your dealing with 2 men (or 2 women) and your undies are all in a knot.

  • the label "marriage" is a socially constructed word that we label the activity. the word marriage obviously did not precede state and church because there were many cultures that called that relationship by a different name, but the relationship itself is indeed a human right. marriage between a man and a woman is the only thing that exist in the federal constitution. therefore, same sex marriage is a OXYMORON, it doesn't exist.

  • i agree with you Nick its excellent.

  • I am also confused as to how Maine could legalize Gay Marriage on May 06, 2009 then undo it in a matter of months. It doesn't make sense to me. Can someone please explain that to me ?

  • the legislator first FORCED the gay marriage onto the people without their consent like New Hampshire and Vermont , but sense the state of Maine has a people's veto to veto legislation action, they were able to have the final say.

  • How is gay marriage FORCED on anyone ? From everything I have seen so far, it is being taken away from everyone that is gay. It isn't right. Gay people are human beings too. They are no different than anyone else.

  • when you redefine marriage for some, you redefine it for everybody else and affect everyone. it is not so much the relationship itself that is suppose to doom society but the government along with the intolerant gay activist who use that gay marriage law to impose their will. the government starts to rearrange businesses, schools, and media according to that definition and socially construct or encourage those relationships without any distinction between the two and THEY KNOW THAT.

  • @kenballer00 SO! that....would mean...that....that gay relationships and straight relations were on equal footing, that gay was equal in every way to straight in laws, rights, privileges. and it would mean that maybe the religious community might not to have the kind of power in the present and the future that it had in the past. or it might use that power kindly fairly, and CONSISTANTLY.

  • THe reason why they fear us is because they are afraid our marriages would be more sounder than theres. They can't even keep their marriages together let alone dictating who can get married.Fear plain and simple

  • The definition of marriage is not being redefined. And tell me how two men or two women getting married to each other effect a man and a woman getting married. The simple fact is, it doesn't. A marriage is simply a union between two people that love each other. If you can't stop being ignorant, at least cease the ignorant comments. You make yourself look foolish.

  • & another question, how is a gay marriage law going to impose someones will ? That doesn't even make any sense. Why would the government rearrange schools, businesses and media ? That still doesn't make any sense. And what business is it of anyone else to encourage or discourage their relationship with someone that they love ? The gay people don't discourage you straight people. Your comments are equally as offensive as the KKK are towards blacks.

  • It was never forced on anyone .These people had commonsense to know it woudn't harm anyone .Oh, Yes I forgot ot would harm the homophobes and the bigots!!!

  • Yeah its forced...now all the men have to marry men and all the women have to marry women...that just makes no sense..

  • Obviously there is alot of ignorance in this country Nick who live on Fantasy Island.Oh my God the Gays are taking over!!! What kind of brain thinks these things up? The sorry part of it is people believe them.

  • It isn't the brains that think these things up. It is the idiots and morons that think these things up. The same ones that think that health care for the uninsured is going to cost them money, the idiots that think they will be euthanized (There's some irony there) and these other idiotic republicans that want to do NOTHING that will better the society in which we live.

  • @kenballer00 no one has the right to take away anyones rights by ballot initiative. and i don't give a fig about the religious implications of marriage. organized christianity usurped that right once it became the "official" state religions of europe long ago. it is time that folks realized that there is secular state sponsored civil ceremonies and religions ones.

  • there is no constitutional right to same sex marriage

  • @kenballer00 there is no constitutional right to your marriage EITHER. so we should have ballot petitions in all 50states nullifying straight marriages. whats good for the goose is good for the gander

  • the U.S. supreme court has been consistent throughout the history of marriage ranging from plural marriage( Murphy v Ramsey), from interracial marriage (Loving v Virginia), to even same sex marriage that marriage is between one man and one woman . Go to Wikipedia and type in Baker v. Nelson. The case will show you that the same court in Loving v Virginia not only distinguished same sex marriage from interracial marriage, but established it as a right that does not exist under the constitution

  • @kenballer00 the supreme court also declared: 1. that blacks weren't real citizens. 2. that segregation was acceptable. 3. that america was a christian nation. 4. i don't think that it looked happily towards interracial marriages either.

  • gays and lesbians have always been allowed to get married even to each other just of different sex and happen to be in traditional marriages as we speak. Are you implying that maybe they are all living a lie or unhappy in some way? if your going to say that they would be miserable in living such a way, then welcome to the club. everybody , gay or straight, is equally having a miserable time with opposite-sex marriage. what your asking for is SPECIAL RIGHTS

  • They are asking for equal rights. Not special rights. If two gay people that love each other want to get married to each other, how does that effect you ? Do you really hate people so much that they should be denied their basic human rights ?

  • Marriage is a union between two people that love each other. The Constitution was rewritten by bush in his 8 years of doing nothing but pissing off everyone he possibly could and he did. The constitution also discriminated against blacks and says that they should be isolated from the rest of society. And by the way, the constitution has no right telling anyone who they can or cannot love and be with in a "marriage" What are you so afraid of ?

  • They certainly did have the final say after being deceived by the opposition who lied and used children being taught in schools on Gay Marriage. They ought to be ashamed of themselves.

  • i cant understand how those silly end of world adds make breeders so scared, and make them think the ridicoulous lies from the conservs. BREEDERS AGHHHH

  • I agree with you 100 % and understand how you feel. It infuriates me too. It isn't right what you people have to go through and this is no different than the blacks being discriminated. Gay people need to continue to stand up for themselves and as soon as they make a law like this, it must be defied just to SPITE it if nothing else. Had Rosa Parks given up her seat instead of holding her ground, they may not be free today. Apparently all men created equal doesn't apply to gay people. It is sad.

  • I know how you feel that sucks

  • i agree they should be allowed to get married. and also adopt if they want. heck some gay parents would make better parents than straight ones. It's not like gay couples are going to raise the child to be gay. as some would like to think the total opposite.

  • If the conservatives give gays the right to marriage, then that means they have to acknowledge you. They don't want to do that. I am a hetero female and who am I to say someone cannot get married? It is not my place just like it is not my place to say Bobby Ray and Peggy Sue McWhitetrash can't. I don't get it either Nick.

  • I think the right to marriage would be stripped away completely (straight or gay) if some of these politicians for "traditional marriages" stood outside of one of the many Las Vegas Wedding Chapels.

  • Ever think of running for public office?

  • he totally should!

  • no I couldn't play that game...i'm too real for politics..people that are real don't make it too long

  • Abe Lincoln went all the way.

  • Excellent editorial commentary, Nick!!!
