I agree with operalover that it could stand a bit more variability of expression, especially near the beginning. But it's far from emotionless, and I don't hear the consistent flatting so many are complaining about. I often wonder if different listeners perceive intonation differently when a singer has a big vibrato.
I really enjoyed this. I think when you get this much constructive criticism, you know you've done well: People don't bother trying to perfect mediocrity--not for free, at least.
also, the camera is farther away than it seems and is reproducing a flat sound when the tones finally reach it. that is what 99% of you are hearing. just because someone sounds flat to you, it doesn't mean they are. being flat or sharp is relative - similar to pitch.
Yes, I agree. As the amount of reverb suggests, the venue must have been pretty large with high ceilings, which can also distort notes among other things.
i have sung this entire cycle more times than probably anyone else in the world, especially silent noon. it started as one of my audition pieces for juilliard, and then became a staple piece whenever i performed. yes, mr. rosenblum is about 1/4 tone flat in some places, but that's not noticeable to someone with an untrained ear. most likely it's due to the space - a lot of stone and metal.
I love this song and really love this rendition as well! It's such a sweet, loving piece and I always like a warm tone to go with it! Not that my opinion amounts to a hill o' beans but great job! I loved it.
I'm singing this song for my master voice class and your rendition is really great man. Really technically mapped out, same as what i'm doing. but technical is awesome. great voice too. you sound like more of a tenor? no?
excuse me? flat? this man sings beautifully and stays right on the pitch. I sing this song at my university as a voice student and he has a clear and mellow sound that I prefer and is similar to my style. and I'm a pretty darn good tenor, so I give this guy kudos.
This man does sing beautifully, and a wonderful interpretation, but he did go flat occasionally, from lack of engagement and space. I wouldn't strut my stuff if I were you, especially when you're wrong. :)
Im sorry Musicmage, but this is beautiful! Plenty of emotion! You just need to feel the music more with the sensuality that he is putting in! He expresses it very well, also love the tone in his voice!
Brian I youtubef this just to get an idea of what the pianist (in this case me) sounds like. Your performance of this piece is incredible! I've saved it to my favorites! Thanks.
A bit uniform throughout the entire piece. The piano music changes expression from phrase to phrase. This is also the same in the sung words, from phrase to phrase. It's far too easy to make a piece boring. This was 'lovely' performance, mainly because you have a warm and pleasing voice, but I would ask you to look deeper into the text to find new expressions in each phrase. Think: as the speaker looks upon these different scenes of nature...how does it make him feel? Well done :)
Beautifully sung. The color of the voice is very pretty and clean. The first phrase should be sung with a straight rhythm. The liberal use of rubato if perfect, but keep the rhythm correctly proportional. Overall, a really good performance and beautifully sung.
awesome performance...

Only if the microphone were moving would you hear frequency changes (doppler effect) As waves propagate outward they lose volume, not frequency.

Very technically well-done, but I don't feel that you were sensitive to the text at all. Beatiful sound, execution nearly perfect, but no emotion.

Lovely Voice and expression. Pity there is too much reverberation in the concert hall.
