  • Archie Sheep's version is supreme.....

  • Good, but not my best. He could blow that horn though, R.I.P.

  • from what year is that?

  • Brilliant..

  • Thelonious Monk (who else?) on piano. That's what makes this great and spurs on the drummer.

  • Art Pepper had a good crack at it too.

    Accompaniment sounds very mechanical.

  • Art Pepper had a good crack at it too.

  • wow

  • Ah, if only I had been alive when he was performing....Must've been one heck of a performance.

  • good, but i prefer charlie parker's version

  • He is my heroe...I cannot resist ...What a great artist....

  • up there flying high with bird cannonball and all the other greats cheers you all enriched my life.

  • This makes me feel good. It has a happy sound. People who do not listen to a lot of jazz do not understand that blues and ballads are not sad or depressive. This is a feel good song. And a ballad, done perfect, just to my specifications.

  • @spoildn8410 Mr. Stitt seemed to put happy/sadness in his music. Just about every one of his low tempo number works its way through my heart and emotions. As a woman, this is great and draws us closer to this music form. I met him at a club where he performed in the 70s. He bought me a drink, just to be a gentlemen and I remember his eyes. They were kind. His music to a young sister who happened to adore jazz - awesome. I will never forget. Peace.

  • Wow! He is amazing!!!!

  • Sonny Stitt deserved much better rhythm section. They are really not helping him.

It's probably taken from one of the "Giants of Jazz" concerts. Despite it all Sonny sounds great.

  • This is real music! Expressive ....penetrating the soul..........

  • Impeccable musician. I love him!!!!!

  • Very nice this ballad, Stitt fly with "Bird"!!!

  • Its badly recorded, Stitt is not clear and loud enough.

  • I always loved Sonny Stitt's alto playing. Very underrated. I'm so glad that I had the priviledge of not only knowing him, but being able to stay with him occasionally when he was on the road.

  • @peppersax Good for you.

  • Outstanding, as always, from Sonny. He really did have absolute mastery of the Alto Sax.. although his work on Tenor later in his career was amazing too. Thanks for posting this. Great to listen to a master at work!
