Dave Holland quintet with a great swinging solo from Nate Smith on drums, with Dave Holland, Steve Nelson on vibes, Robin Eubanks on trombone, and Chris Potter on reeds. On the new "Pathways" CD he adds alto sax, trumpet, and baritone sax to his group, live a Birdland.
This guy was at my school today! (Apparently, he went to college with our Jazz director.) So, yes, Soam, the bass was definitely a little overpowering.
Well, when he was at the school, he started out with a little funk and the bass drum hits were just the loudest sound in it, by far. No mics, of course. I think it's just him.
Great clip but I guess the bass drum accents were so overpowering they sort of overloaded the mic or something? (It seems there is silence on bass drum accents.)
Really nice. But I think Billy Kilson is the best!

Sorry about the misunderstanding, I meant the bass drum.
Isntthisalreadytaken 2 years ago

he is no billy kilson.....why fire that guy!
Bosphorus92 3 years ago
Because he wouldn't show up for rehearsals. And you're right, he's no Billy Kilson, because there is already a Billy Kilson. Nate is original.
