Completely enthralled when first I heard El Gallo sing this .... a magic moment many years ago that still gives light through many years of memories. Many thanks!!
I used to sing this song with friends to end our gigs together. Great song, from one of the best stage musicals ever. Thanks for adding your arrangement to my listening experience. I'm a baritone, so I like a lower key, but your guitar work in G is really refreshing.
Thank you for listening. A wistful song, but hopeful, yes. Sometimes we need to remember a time when the world was new and our hearts were young. Hope you're having a good Thanksgiving.
Hi, Mary. Thank you. I've loved this song ever since I heard it as a young man. The poignancy of the lyrics has only deepened with the passage of time. - Doug
That was beautiful! I absolutely loved it! The photography was breathtaking and fit perfectly! Thanks for putting up the video. I sincerely enjoyed it!
Thanks, Martha! Can't take credit for the photos (or the song, for that matter), but I agree they are beautiful. My favourite season. Glad you enjoyed. As for the singing compliment, it just proves that I have very kind-hearted subscribers. ;-)
Thank you, Joon! I hadn't realized there was so much repetition in the lyrics until I started working with the song. The repetition seems to lend it a soothing effect, like a lullaby.
Doug! People you get to know on YouTube are always so full of surprises. That was really wonderful. I've always loved that song, and you have a beautiful and expressive singing voice. My favorite line in that song has always been "when you were a tender and callow fellow"; I appreciate that line even more now that I have a true experience of its meaning. This was so great. Thanks for it.
Yup, that's the line that's stuck with me over the years. Callow: it's a word you don't hear much nowadays, but it has a certain charm. It's interesting when someone shows a different side of themselves, don't you think? As for the voice, I used to be able to hit and sustain a note but that capability seems to have scuttled off when I wasn't looking.
Ahhhh...Doug, What a beautiful treasure this is. Tears fell as I listened to your soothing voice and watched your beautiful photos. I will wear this video out watching it...thank you for it. Sally always says it best...Happy Autumn to you! :O)
I forgot to wish you Happy Autumn on LV, Cindy! Can't take credit for the photos, but they are gorgeous aren't they. Leaves aren't quite turning in earnest in these parts yet, but soon.
Doug, that was my next question...is that what Canada looks like. I was over earlier and saw comments were disabled...I wish I could catch a weasel or stoat leaving a nasty comment here..I might have to *show a different side of myself* ;O)
Thank you for rushing to my defence, Cindy, but so far all complimentary. Must have been a YouTube glitch. We have a lot of maples in southern Ontario, so the leaves can be brilliant orange and red if we catch some cold weather. Most of the trees are showing a little yellow just now, though I'm hearing things are well under way in the northern part of the province.
Oh, good, Doug...my hackles have been up...not attractive. It must be simply gorgeous in your part of the world. It's still pretty warm here not surprisingly.
hi dugalwest! i remember this song from my childhood! i can't remember who i heard sing it, but i always liked this song so much.
i enjoyed this very much and the photos are stunningly beautiful. thank you for a nice memory remembered again. this is a nice way to begin autumn~happy autumn to you! :)
Happy autumn! I'm glad you enjoyed this. I can't remember who I heard sing it either. I didn't realize it was from a musical until I saw a school production of "The Fantasticks." I love how this song evokes the wistfulness of the season.

I love the fact that you sang it at a slower pace. Almost as if you were reminiscing. Lovely.

At a time when there is so much uncertainty and angst, I cannot think of a more apt piece. We should all heed those words.
