I don't got a problem with rockefeller doing his commentaries. They're especially great when he's doing pyrolee matches...I dunno, kinda makes the genei jin combos real nice to watch. Only thing though is during his ranbat commentaries I hate how he randomly belches. I'm pretty sure that's the only thing a lot of us can say that we don't wanna hear.

(cont from below): That's how it pretty much is for the West Coast 3rd Strike Players and Rock. He's been doing the Family Fun Ranbats (Ranking Battles) for so long, now, that it's fun for everyone. The proof is that the majority of the audience for Evo West thoroughly enjoyed his commentary, 'cause they are all already used to his style. I do admit it is tough to digest when you aren't familiar with him or know the history. So I figured I'd explain it a bit to help people understand it more.

(cont. from below): So his humor is largely due to the fact that he's so familiar with every player and good friends with them. Think of the type of situation where five guys, including yourself, always go to someone's house and played one game for months. After a while, you guys all become good enough friends that you probably rib each other throughout the matches, where even the guys watching add in their commentary. And it's hardly distracting at all, it's just good fun.

As the uploader of these videos, I have to come to the defense of Rockefeller. I think most people don't understand that, here in California, there are frequent 3rd Strike tournaments where the best West Coast players all play. Rockefeller announces all of those. The reason he can make the type of comments he does (including "suggestions") is because everyone knows him. Almost every single one of the players in the final 8 are vastly familiar with Rock, and are 100% used to his style already.

No, he's an unfunny asshole. He's crossing the line when he suggests what this or that player should be doing...he's not there to make suggestions. And he's not even funny, just annoying/distracting.

I agree that Rockefeller makes things a lot lighter. Honestly, EVO might have money prizes at stake, but it's still a collection of gamers playing a game. Just have a good time. Otherwise people might actually be serious and getting pissed. I've seen some angry people at my arcade, with some fights almost breaking out.
