  • Bennet, I don't wear one! lmao

  • oh my goodness! I cannot believe Dorothy thought eggs were a dairy product!! That made her look pretty stupid lol

  • "does it have a bell like tone for example a bell"

  • Dorothy: "Go to the nearest Dairy and buy some eggs."

Arlene: " You haven't seen an egg come out of cow in I don't know how long.."

What fun it is to watch these clips. Thanks for posting them.

  • Apparently it's been reported that Arlene was accident prone.

  • I know I left my comment for this clip a few months ago but I would like to write another again. Arlene Francis was just amazing. I wish she had been born some decades later; we could see her on TV as a great actress. "Would it hit anything between the waist and the knees? Bennett, I don't wear one!" Other lines are really funny to hear. I think she was elegant, witty, charming; she did have class which young women today totally lack. Thanks for posting this clip.

    Arlene Francis is immortal.

  • Haha Arlene and the cow manicurist!! Hilarious!! Arlene is the best!

  • If I get to heaven, I wanna hang out with Arlene and Bret Somers.

  • "You haven't seen an egg come out of a cow!" I haven't either.

  • My favorite is the one with Charley Weaver

  • Great video!

  • I like Arlene's little, "Oh, Dorothy" when she is questioning her father.

  • With the church bell guy,, drunk arlene

  • "Because, dear, it costs less than three thousand dollars!" -- and Dorothy loses it!

  • I didn't realize I made the same post 2 months ago!

  • I think Arlene is drunk here.

  • her son fooled her twice!

  • a sandwich board!

  • Happy Birthday Arlene!!!!!!

  • Happy Birthday Arlene! <3

  • Arlene is one of my favorite people, Her cleverness and sense of fun were contagous and added so much to every program. I still smile as I see that angelic smile, that will forever light our lives!

  • She is beautiful and so classy!!!

  • If you didn't know better you'd think Arlene had one too many before the show.

  • boy, the girdle guy got a big reception lol

  • @weightfeather1 I understand everything in these WML? videos and I'm 18, I hate this generalization that we are all complete idiots.

  • what was meant by the 3000 dollars comment? i think i know but just wanna make sure..thanks

  • At 4:46 ish....perhaps one too many pre-show drinks? :P But then, she is always hilarious so she could just be enjoying herself!

  • I love how she says "rrringing". That's very cute and beautiful...She seemed to be a very intelligent, educated woman... And her laughs and smiles make me laugh and smile too. She was a very beautiful woman, and of course very funny.

Thank you very much for putting this on, WML is a great show.

  • i absoltely love her , she is my favourite panelist.

  • The setup for the joke at 2:17 (spoken by Arlene's husband Martin) is that minutes earlier Arlene had asked if the article in question(diaper pins) was expensive. She got a response of No. After some confusion, Arlene thought that the product was an expensive purchase and asked by she got "No" response earlier. That is when Martin inferred that for Arlene, an expensive item is over $3,000 (quite a lot of money 45 years ago).

  • I long for the days when language was an art form......Such a well spoken, witty, classy lady!!!!!!!!

  • I worked with Arlene Francis at WOR radio in 1987-88. She and I both left when WOR was sold by RKO-General to Buckley Broadcasting. She was a great lady- she taught me so much about New York and life and fame. I used to walk her home occasionally from the radio studio to her apartment, and was always amazed at the reception she received from the public- how everyone loved her.

  • Arlene was very perceptive.

  • She makes up the most FUNNIEST questions! I wish they still had this show on!

  • What a delightful, witty, charming and beautiful woman. Today's actresses could learn a lot from Ms. Francis' style and grace.

  • its my favorite game show.

  • For example, It's a BELL...

  • Arlene was my kind of woman: especially good-looking, very funny, and charming.

  • I remember watching this in reruns as a kid. How "mah-velous" (Arlene!!!) to be able to see it again on my little iPhone ...

  • Arlene was one of the main reasons I watched this show. I LOVED her! Beautiful, quick wit and sharp as a tack!

    Long live Arlene Francis!

  • Oh, Arlene! Such a wonderful lady!

  • Her eyes sparkle as bright as her smile.

  • I think this beautiful, dear lady was one of a kind. She is such a joy to watch.

  • Arlene has got to be an ANGEL in heaven right now.

  • I have seriously watched this video soo many times it's crazy. I think I've commented on it already before too.

    It gives me such happiness!!

She's such a great woman. Funny, Witty, Charming and everything else!!

    Especially that gorgeous smile.

I think she made the show. Everyone else on the panel is great. But if I lived back then, the only motivation of watching this show would be Arlene.

  • Church bells is my for ever favourite!! I always think she must have been drunk.

  • Happy 102th Birthday arlene!!!!!!!!!!

  • Happy Birthday Arlene! We miss you!

  • she has what i think is the best smiles in early television!!!

  • I LOVE the part where Martin (her husband) was like

"Because dear! It costs less than 3,000 dollars!"

    Ahhh it was PERFECT.

Arlene is so dignified and classy.

Wonderful woman. And especially funny and witty.

  • Arlene fills me with happiness!! My favourite panelist, although I adore Bennett and Mr Daly!

  • Arlene looks great in younger years.

  • So wonderful to see Arlene again!

  • 2:29 Mr. Gabel was lucky he was at the other end LOL.

  • luv arlene <3

  • Arlene was the best. Too bad she is virtually forgotten today. Love her.

  • 'Because dear it costs less than 3 thousand dollars!'

    AHAHAHAHAH

  • She was so sweet and positive...

I bet that everyone who knew her, did like her very much :))

    her smile was adorable :)

  • I do love Arlene!!!

  • she looked drunk talking about the ringing.

  • My elderly parents just watched a dvd of these shows that I downloaded for them.

There's hasn't been a happy marriage for a very long time, but to hear them both laughing and reminiscing about the days back when these first aired remined me of how they were with each other 30 years ago. I've got a lump in my throat just thinking about it. Thank you so much for posting thse clips of a time, not so very long ago and still in many people's hearts.

  • You know, I've just shown this video to dad. He used to watch this show... and lol the coolest thing was to observ tears in his eyes... like a connection to the past and the good moments it might remind him of.

LOL Adorable times.. wish somehow I could go back too. People seemed happier than today.

Arlene Francis was awesome. God Bless her.

  • This is terrific! Thanks so much for this, WMLandPassword. What a truly classy and talented lady Arlene was--refined and regal, but without a hint of haughtiness about her! We need more like her today.

  • Thank you so much for posting this gem.

It's a reminder of a kinder, classier but still very funny time for network tv.

  • what a terrific piece of work. thanks so much. i'm so upset that GSN (at least in my part of the country) has removed what's my line from its line up. this is a fantastic video. thanks so much!!!

  • Thank you so much! Now when I need my Arlene fix I can watch this beautifully constructed 'best of' video!!

Arlene is my all time favourite contestant. No one else can compare to her wit, charm and glamorous, yet girl-next-door appeal. Not to mention her comedic timing!

    Thank you!

  • Arlene Francis just radiated warmth, charm and wit. In the world of television, there's been nobody like her since.

  • I am among Arlene's "new" fanbase. I discovered What's My LIne?and I can't tell you how much I adore her! She's just too cute and funny and a lady. I want to be like her! I wish I had known her: she must have been the life of the party.Thank you for posting these videos!

  • I know what you mean! Thank you so much WMLandPassword for posting this! I love WML, and yes Ms. Francis is the person who first made me fall in love with this show! Good-looking, mature, funny, smart, and I love her voice...the kind of lady I'd love to be when I grow up! Although I've come to love them all, John Daly, Bennett Cerf (classic!), Dorothy (too bad she passed away a bit too early, may she RIP), Martin Gabel, all the guest panelists...Ms. Arlene Francis is still my favorite!

  • I agree - I absolutely adore John Daly and Bennet Cerf was adorable! I love Dorothy and many of the regular guest panelists, especially Martin Gabel, Tany Randall, and Steve Allen, but by far, my favorite of all time was Arlene Francis! She really made the show for me - charming, funny, an all around beautiful person!

  • She was a rare gem

  • The first word that comes to my mind when thinking of Ms. Arlene is STUNNING. My first memory of her, believe it or not, is in "The Thrill of it All," playing a perpetually sunny, elegant, matron expecting rather late in life. Later on, I just regarded her as 'Miss WML'- perhaps the most necessary fourth of such a witty, erudite, and classy panel show. Love every response from this lady- always witty, sharp as a tack, but also warm, engaging, and smiling. Thank you for this.

  • I wonder what Arlene's son would think of renewed popularity amongst us younger (I'll count myself as 'relatively' younger;) viewers. I'm sure he'd be proud. His mother was one-of-a-kind. I adore Arlene, too.

  • she's so cute at 5:15-:16ish!!

    I love her!!

  • I love Arlene to pieces!!! This was great, some of my absolute favorite moments (but there are so many you could fill dozens of video's ;D) she's always so witty, bright and absolutely HILARIOUS!!

  • Først en kommentar fra Norge - og nu fra Sverige... Vi elsker WML i Skandinavien :D

    Ja Arlene Francis var fantastisk!!!

Dine videoer er utrolig gode! Især "Here Comes the Sun" og "One Way or Another" - Tak for at du deler dem med os :-)

  • Hillarious! Some of her absolute best! She's my favourite too. What a fantastic woman!

  • Today, we remember Arlene Francis for her years in What's My Line? That constituted only a part of her busy life.

    She worked as

one of the first, if not THE first woman host of a TV game show

the first woman to host a morning TV information show "NBC Home"

the first woman to guest host "NBC Tonight Show " for Paar (and between Paar and Carson)

a member of 1964 New York World's Fair Board of Directors

    a radio show host

    NBC Radio Monitor correspondent.

  • And a very talented actress! (- I would love to read her cookbook too :-)

Thank you so much for all your wonderful comments about WML - I always enjoy reading them.

  • And an author to boot. Besides the cookbook, she also wrote a book called _That Certain Something: The Magic of Charm_ in 1960. I'm keeping my eyes open at second-hand book stores for that one. And her autobiography too.

  • I've just bought her autobiography - can't wait to read it :-)

  • Haha, this was so great :D Arlene's such a bright, witty and funny woman! Love her remarks (and musical demonstration ;D).

Bet there is enough material to fill a dozen of vids with 'best of' moments -- & I think you really picked some swell ones; thanks!

  • Arlene at 3:45 > 4:58 This occurred in an autumn 1963 episode, a few months after she nearly died in an auto wreck and suffered all sorts of injuries including a broken collar bone.

Bennett seems embarrassed that Arlene acts as drunk as a skunk -- but this might be alcohol self medication for pain?? reaction to pain meds?? reaction to alcohol and pain meds??

  • To 'soulierinvestments' about Arlene at the 3:45 - 4:58 mark: Ironic, given that as often as not in that period Dorothy Kilgallen was the de facto "train wreck" on the show. Yet Arlene outlived Dorothy by some 36 years.

  • This was hillarious!! Thanks so much for putting this together and sharing it.

In the clip with the bell maker she is positively plastered and it's just priceless!!! I think Bennett and Dorothy knew as well and thought it was great fun

  • I have watched that particular episode so many times - and it still makes me laugh!

She's even more charming when she's.. shall we say.. tipsy! And the reaction from the other panellists is so funny.

Especially Bennett Cerf at 4.31 - and the comment "You're demonstrative tonight, Arlene" at 4.45

Her tipsy laughter reminds me of her character's never ending laughter at the beginning of "The Thrill Of It All" (- That is by the way the one of best openings to a movie I have ever seen)

  • Hi and thanks for uploading your videos. Could you give us the link to the full clip that starts at 5:52, the cow nail trimmer? I didn't see it on your list. Thanks!

  • I can't find that one on YouTube - and I've only got this small bit of the video myself.

    I can't remember where I found it... Sorry :-(

  • LOL this is hilarious! Then again what would I expect, Arlene's the most witty, funny and charming person to ever step foot on the planet :D

Thank you for posting WMLandPassword, you did a marvelous Job!

  • Thank you - I'm glad you liked it - unfortunately when you watch the video on YouTube the audio is out of synch. Don't know why...

But yeah - Arlene was an amazing woman!!!
