  • radeon 5770 sucks ati is trash bye

  • Does thie make games on your laptop less laggy?

  • Does this make ur games less laggy on ur laptop?

  • WOW....

  • I have a Lenovo T410 with the expresscard slot. I want an external gpu like you but I have no idea where to buy the components. I figure I need an external PCI express x16 which can be connected to my laptop through the expresscard right? please help :)

  • @philipe2403 buy the vidock

  • @MrJordanreed386 it IS the vidock stuff without the enclosure it seems. I recognize the power supply.

  • You can play crysis on it?

  • @CamoteMaster with that little bastard you can play Crysis TWO

  • So you just have the video card plugged into the VGA out on the laptop, the one you ordinarily run just a cord from it and then straight to that secondary monitor?

  • @perryinjax It wouldn't be VGA, it would be PCI-e x16

  • @R3VBigBlue Thanks for replying and how do you find that?

  • this is the cheapest way for gaming

  • Can you do this with ANY laptop? I have a mid-spec laptop.

  • @damitchman9 it depends how many watts does your laptop have

  • @R3VBigBlue How much watts do you need? Answer please. Thanks.

  • If your going to use a laptop as stationary might aswell just get a desktop.

  • Very Cool! I was wrong this is possible and quite cool.

  • does this not defeat the purpose of having a laptop? I thought laptops were meant to be portable, you may have well just got a desk top which is easily upgradable

  • Im sorry man If I am wrong but I call this fake. As a Microsoft engineer who owns a tech business how is this even possible?

  • @UNIXSOLJA Clearly you did no research at all before posting that comment. Try Googling "Vidock" and "eGPU" I wouldn't recommend people to your "tech business".

  • @christianjacobbright Your a troll!

  • @UNIXSOLJA What I've done is given you proof that not only is this real but dozens of DIY tutorials exist as well as a company that produces PnP kits. As a Microsoft engineer you might want to keep up with the times. Just sayin'...

  • @christianjacobbright Your right! However Insulting my licensed IT service is no way to gain friends. Besides if you know a fair bit about comp certs you would know my cert is network based and not hardware. However I am a+ net+ and server+. I also said I could be wrong but, how is this possible? Was my question. No I didn't look it up. I have way to much to study right now.

  • interesting project, did not try to remove from dock restrictions PCIe 1x ?

  • how do you do that? Im trying to achieve this myself

  • Also, I lol'd at the little clitoris on your keyboard.

  • Does this shit still work if you've got a crappy built-y in-y motherboard-y card thing?

Honestly, I haven't got a fucking clue what I'm talking about.

  • who built this

  • how much does a 1gb external video card costs??

  • What's your T400 bios version ?

  • yok artık

  • please pm me i cant fit a graphics card into my tower and my power supply isnt powerfull enough to handle it plzpzlzplzpzlzpzlplzplzpzlzpzzllpzzlpzzlzlpzpzlzpzlzlpzlzpzlzlzzpl tel me how to do this i liked and i subscibed

  • @krisdeguy123 if you bought a graphics card that didnt fit and the PS cant handle it, then that was YOUR fault for not doing some research on the dimensions and power consumption.

  • @nic95 actuly no ,, theres not one graphics card that fits in my tower

  • @krisdeguy123 so why would you get one if you knew it wouldn't fit.

  • @nic95 FFS ! 1 . i have one from my old pc and 2. no graphics card in any shop will fit my dimensions i did not say i brought one

  • :D)

  • I have a do not have an efficient graphics card ( intel HD 30000 however i do have some pretty decent other specs and i was wondering is it possible to hook this card up to my laptop even if i dont have and internal ATI graphics card

  • please do a simple instructional video! please!

  • my advice would be buy a pc or a better laptop.

  • I really don't see the point of getting External monitors, i would only buy this hardware if it worked fully with my laptop alone (If am going to get another monitor i might as well buy a new pc and no vidock, a proper pc with a proper motherboard can always be upgraded!).

  • @justletuslive the only reason to do it is if you have all of the equipment on hand or its your only pc at the moment.

  • @utooberblooper well i actually went ahead and bought a A PE4L ePCI and an Nvidia Geforce 440 GT, and it's supposedly going to work with optimus to internal LCD>..

  • buy a PC

  • can i have this on my laptop, mines a hp g70 with intel graphics and intel processor

  • so you need a external screen for the laptop?

you cant just play on the laptop itself and connect the new Videocard if your using a laptop with integrated Graphic card

  • @PinoyPogiman YES 1ST QUESTION,NO 2ND QUESTION

  • Nerd*

  • Kinda ned

  • How did you do this? any simple explanations?

  • i have those laptops in my school

  • pure awesomeness !!!!!!! now if someone were to built a nvidia 580 version of this n it was compatible with my laptop i would buy it !!!!

  • @suske423 a 580 is the same price as a new laptop with good graphics in it already?

  • how the helll is this possible.. am i missing something... i got couple of graphics card.

  • @ExtraTerrestrials you need a dock,the right cables,a separate power supply,ingenuity and skill !

  • wow, I really want to make one of these but have no idea where to start. did you need software to get it to work, and would it work with a thunderbolt port? (i hear they're a bit faster than PCI)

  • @alfiemeh NO

  • Closed it's like PS 3..lol

  • Wow Good Job mate you made yourself a personal Vidock.

  • shit card

  • @ProSupra no

  • you sexy piece of shit!

  • Can some 1 tell me how does this work and where can i but that cable or something

  • omg does it really work?? O.O why don't you go to work at nvidia or apple? O.O I want it too >.<

  • @Save90 no

  • I have alienware m15 x with Nvidia card how do I do this?

  • @2583060 no

  • zuper Pc o my GOOd

  • @zian1977c some of us may like to carry things around and the ergonomics is awesome; laptops are powerful enough to play any game only to be hindered by integrated graphics.

  • DUST?

  • O.O

    HOW?!

  • little clumped up but that is nice

  • during the zombie apocalypse, can we be friends?

    Nice work.

  • do i have to have a desktop monitor to run the graphics card or can i have the graphics card plugged in and use my laptop instead of connecting it to another monitor

  • @LedZepp543 yes,no !!!

  • @utooberblooper maybe!

  • @TheFunnyMonkeyBoy no company is making external graphics card. This is a type of mod, expensive to say the least. You could always connect a nvidia card into the pci slot in that dock.

  • how the heck did this work did u just hook this up to your pci slot and buy a power supply and do it like that or what? dont have a clue

  • how the heck did this work did u just hook this up to your pci slot and buy a power supply and do it like that or what? dont have a clue

  • what was the benefit again?

  • why dont you just pop that baby into a nice antec 1200?

  • I'm having a HP DV7 Pavilion 3065 dx laptop with an ATI Radeon HD 4200 would I be abled to hook on a better graphics card?

  • do you have to have a cetain kind of laptop to do this also if you dont there must be some kind of system requirments, could anyone tell me?

  • can i use this without using inline fuse? just use the dvi adapter then my old pc graphics card ati radeon xpress 200 then connect to my notebook.. will it work?

  • couldn't do this with a fucking mac

  • thats got to be a shitload of work

  • dude how to fuck did you do that!

  • I'm getting that same graphics card soon :) I can't get the brick one because it just won't fit.

  • @JackyQuacky27 There are single slot 5770's now too :)

  • Thanks for the cool guide :)

1 thing before I go ahead and mod my dock, how much more performance did you manage to get from your new setup compared to running the 4550 "natively"? The 4550 is so cheap now that I might just get one of those if the higher-end cards are too limited by the Pci bandwidth?

    Thanks

    Rune

  • @eyeland420 The performance gain was a lot. Unfortunately I didn't record the values from the 4550, so I don't have specific numbers. I'm able to run games in higher res, with more detail, and at a higher frame rate. 2D performance had a nice boost also. Scrolling in Firefox and other rapid 2D movement looked choppy with the 4550, but seems perfectly smooth with the 5770.

The PCIe bandwidth doesn't limit things too much. I'll post a comparison with Tom's Hardward benchmarks in a few weeks.

  • test games??

  • @hd5770Gamer I've mostly tried this with L4D2. It runs great. 1920x1080 with all settings on "high", 2xAA,, Anisotropic Filtering, and Triple Buffering w/ vsync. I average about 57FPS, though I'm usually at the max of 60. There were a couple places where it got noticeably slower for about a second and then returned to normal. This was rare though and I assume due to the limited PCIe bandwidth.

  • @hd5770Gamer I tried to grab some 3DMark benchmarks but ended up overheating. Apparently the temperature sensor doesn't work well when exposed to open air. Problem was fixed with manual fan controls. I'll post them when I have them, which probably won't be for another 3 weeks or so.

  • lol. im looking at new laptops to get and was thinking of getting a refurb t60. seeing this video made me wanna get it more hahahah. i wont put a 5770 in it but with the guide i'd put something better than the ati graphics it gots in them. can you post some gameplay video or show some benchmarks?

  • @Marijuana420rKo I've been planning to post some gameplay video and benchmarks actually. Next time I visit my family (where the docking station is setup) I'll post some videos.

For now I can tell you that Left 4 Dead 2 ran at a solid 60fps (with a few minor dips) in 1920x1080. It requires some tweaking since the PCIe bus is a definite bottleneck. I think I had to turn off AA for this reason. I'll post full benchmarks in about a week. Keep in mind the advanced dock is a bit pricey also.

  • @dornif Hey is that a external graphics/video card?

  • @ExerNation yes

  • @ExerNation yes

  • Man this is great! Can you help me? i have good laptop but the video card is bad,i want to do the same ,and i have PC video card but i don't know how to connect them with a monitor? Can you give me a guide how to do that and what i need to buy.please?I will wait to your reply

  • this is a waste of time unless u only own a laptop and a monitor

  • i have a question. is it posible to hook up an ati radeon 5970 on an laptop?

  • Should be 100% possible. I simply went for a cheaper and most likely quieter option. I've had both ATI cards I tried with this setup work, so I'd imagine any ATI card should be fine. nvidia cards don't work like this (at least not with my laptop).

A 5970 might be overkill since the bottleneck is the PCIe bus. The card supports a16x PCIe bus, but runs at only 1x in this setup.

  • that was super awesome

    how to do it?

  • guide in discription

  • what a fuckn mess, clean that hit up!

  • The whole point of a laptop is so you can move around with it. With all those wires, i doubt you can

  • @popkraft Docking station isn't too portable, but the laptop just pops right off.

  • what a cool but stupid idea, man that video card would be super bottlenecked

  • It runs alright depending on the game. L4D2 with high settings (no AA though) I get a steady 60 fps. Loading can be slow, but good engines seem to use this card well and it's much better than the built-in Radeon 3450.

  • Just finished the guide that goes along with this video. You can find the link in the description.

  • OMG I was just wondering yesterday how I could hook up a video card like this! XD

Plus, that's the card I have in my new desktop.

Awesome job. :-) I'd love to know how it worked out for you.

  • @ochagirl Thanks! I just finished putting together a guide on how to do it. This method only works for Thinkpads but there are other more universal methods that can be used.
