I openly carry where ever and whenever i can, so long as it's legal, and i have a concealed carry permit from Texas, where i was stationed, for all other instances. I feel alot safer personally. I'm originally from Memphis, TN and i believe that everyone who wants to carry, whether openly or concealed, should have that right and freedom. I've never caused a "panic" with my weapon, and i've asked some people if they felt uncomfortable around it. I've never gotten a negative response.

Open Carry is, by definition, defensive carry. It acts as a deterrent against the criminals. Concealed carry does not. Also for your information, I've carried a sidearm for over half of my adult life. It has only left the holster three times in all that time. All three times, I was faced with an immediate threat to life.

I lost my right to even own a firearm last year following a bad situation where i had to leave home with my firearm on me to avoid opening my trunk in front of a guy who seemed to be an immediate threat. I openly carry where ever and whenever i can, so long as it's legal, and i have a concealed carry permit from Texas, where i was stationed, for all other instances. I feel alot safer personally. I'm originally from Memphis, TN and i believe that everyone who wants to carry, whether openly or concealed, should have that right and freedom. I've never caused a "panic" with my weapon, and i've asked some people if they felt uncomfortable around it. I've never gotten a negative response.

Open Carry is, by definition, defensive carry. It acts as a deterrent against the criminals. Concealed carry does not. Also for your information, I've carried a sidearm for over half of my adult life. It has only left the holster three times in all that time. All three times, I was faced with an immediate threat to life.

AS A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER FOR LOS ANGELES COUNTY, I FULLY SUPPORT LAW ABIDING CITIZENS RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS. HOWEVER, I BELIEVE CONCEALED CARRY WOULD BE MORE EFFECTIVE TOWARDS STOPPING THE BAD GUYS IN THE UNFORTUNATE EVENT THAT IT WOULD HAVE TO BE USED. If they did as you suggest, you would just call them gun toting racist's, or neo-nazi, or some other derogative remark. @stolte95, Because it is a deterant to criminals. Same as a Police Officer, which Officer would a criminal rather mess with. One who looks like he means business or one that looks like a worthless slob. Better to have and not need, than to need and not have. Like most law abiding citizens, these people will never need the weapons they carry. They carry as a deterant and in compliance with the local laws.

I'm sure that at least half of these people would nobly use their gun for the defense of others, God forbid it should ever come to that though. As you said, it's a criminal deterrent, not only personally, but socially as well. And as someone else said, better to have and not need than to need and not have.
