AMEN. Boomer and T.J. have great chemistry together and gravitas. Some things in life should always stay the same and Primetime was the perfect way to catch game highlights at the end of Sunday. The format was perfect. Now we are stuck with the Blitz and the show is segmented throughout the snooze-worthy Sportscenter. I think they did this because probably everyone who cared about the NFL only watched Primetime and once that was over, we'd change channels or switched off the television.

When ESPN went to Monday night and NBC got the Sunday night games part of the contract was that NBC would be the only highlite show on Sunday night. Guess Chris and TJ didn't want to do it on Mondays.
I don't watch NFL Primetime anymore. Trey Wingo, Merril Hoge, & Trent Dilfer seem 2 just focus on the "important" games, and they just sum up the other games w/o many highlights. They also seem 2 kick teams when they're down (Game of the "Weak", wth?). I only watch The Blitz on Sportscenter 4 the music, but I've even stopped watching that, cuz the order of the songs that r played 4 highlights stays the same (International Statement followed by Power Surge, etc.). ESPN needs 2 make a change.
NFL Primetime is my all time favorite show (well OK maybe a close 2nd to ABC's Monday Night Football). NFL Primetime made each game exciting even if you missed it. The commentary is superb with Boomer & T.J. and the music never gets old. After the Divisional playoffs this year they had the old style - keep it for next year ESPN!!!
I don't understand why the NFL insists that we suffer through the NBC pregame, which is an abomination. They should still have a show that maybe comes on after the night game. Their analysis is definitely the most entertaining and most trustworthy on ESPN, Jaworski is an Idiot he needs to shut up. And I'm pretty sure John Gruden is always stoned because everything is the "most amazing" thing he's ever seen.
They should bring it back....the problem with it being on at it's old time (7:30) is that when then new TV contract came up, however many years ago, and NBC got Sunday Night Football, it went in the contract that they were to be the only highlight show on TV. So now here we stand, with a god awful Football Night in America program, and no NFL Primetime.
And while they're at it PLEASE!!! Bring back "Jacked Up" to the halftime show of Monday Night Football. They can still do "C'mon Man" but Jacked Up was da'shit!!

Boomer and T.J. are the only two you need. Not 90 guys at a desk, and certainly not allowing the best two people ESPN has in regards to football (in my opinion) to have at LEAST a half hour show is terrible. It is coming back this fall, on Sundays at 7pm. But it's not going to be exactly the same. Somehow NBC now owns the rights to the hilight packages that used to be shown on Primetime and they're going to let John Saunders, Boomer, and TJ do some sort of Primetime-like thing with them on the 7pm Sportscenter. So once again, you aren't going to get what you really want and love. How in the hell did NBC get the rights to extensive hilights from the NFL? Shame on ESPN/ABC for not protecting them
Saunders is going to do the "news" part of the NFL section of Sportscenter and of course Berman and Jackson get the hilights....but again, it just shows that everything has a price and NBC is so desperate to get back into the major NFL market, besides that Sunday Night thing. They lost their AFC rights and CBS got them to replace their old NFC coverage they lost to Fox. Now NBC steals away something they know ABC/ESPN will want back. Cut-throat man. Rutheless and cut-throat.

Couldn't agree with you more. ESPN needs to let go of MNF and get back to owning the rights to SNF so NFL Primetime can exist once again. I think the execs made a huge mistake and I'm sure they're realizing that now. It's now coincidence that almost everybody misses NFL primetime and thinks MNF is a mere shell of its former self now.

Actually, the NFL was better when the AFC was on NBC, NFC on CBS, TNT/ESPN airing Sunday Night Football and ABC doing Monday Night games. ESPN is making itself look bad by having Monday Night Football and they killed it.

NBC outbid ESPN for the rights to show NFL highlights first when they bought the rights to host SNF games. So NFL Primetime had to be cancelled. And That Sucks.
Man, I miss this show so much. Sundays just don't feel the same without this show recapping the day's action and leading into the Sunday Nighter. NBC's show is alright, but they don't show enough highlights. Plus, that music could make the most boring game sound like an epic combined with Boomer's commentary.

This what I would have done, put NFL PrimeTime after the game (about 11:30 pm EST), most likely ESPN2 (due to SportsCenter being on ESPN at the time) and then again on Monday, that would fit the best of both worlds. I do not like what NBC has done to the 7:30 time slot, but I think its the only solution.

im not 100 percent sure about why they canceled the show but i think it has to do with espn not carrying the sunday night game bc the nfl dropped abc as a provider for monday night football. Therefor nbc has there highlight show before the sunday night game

NFL PrimeTime was the one truly great highlights show ever. berman, TJ, the background music, and the long highlight reels made it a must-watch every Sunday night. every other highlights show is crap. each game gets a 10 second highlight reel followed by 2 minutes of analysts ranting. Bring PrimeTime back.

It is coming back this fall, on Sundays at 7pm. But it's not going to be exactly the same. Somehow NBC now owns the rights to the hilight packages that used to be shown on Primetime and they're going to let John Saunders, Boomer, and TJ do some sort of Primetime-like thing with them on the 7pm Sportscenter. So once again, you aren't going to get what you really want and love. How in the hell did NBC get the rights to extensive hilights from the NFL? Shame on ESPN/ABC for not protecting them

Saunders is going to do the "news" part of the NFL section of Sportscenter and of course Berman and Jackson get the hilights....but again, it just shows that everything has a price and NBC is so desperate to get back into the major NFL market, besides that Sunday Night thing. They lost their AFC rights and CBS got them to replace their old NFC coverage they lost to Fox. Now NBC steals away something they know ABC/ESPN will want back. Cut-throat man. Rutheless and cut-throat.

Totally agree. Thanks for posting this. Thee only highlights show that matters. "The Blitz" just isn't the same. And NBC with Costas, Barber, Bettis and that awful Olberman is unwatchable. NFL Primetime was thee best.

yeah, it was epic to have Al Michaels and John Madden do MNF, espn killed it. and the blitz isn't good cause it only goes through certain games and as said earlier, stretches out through the hour of sports center. its weak. nfl primetime was the shiz!

I miss NFL Primetime...I hope sooner or later that ESPN gets the Sunday/Thursday Night Football games, or to a lesser extent, share the rights with TNT like they did from 1990-1997. ESPN is making itself look bad by having the rights to Monday Night Football and giving sports a bad name.

Couldn't agree with you more. ESPN needs to let go of MNF and get back to owning the rights to SNF so NFL Primetime can exist once again. I think the execs made a huge mistake and I'm sure they're realizing that now. It's now coincidence that almost everybody misses NFL primetime and thinks MNF is a mere shell of its former self now.

NBC outbid ESPN for the rights to show NFL highlights first when they bought the rights to host SNF games. So NFL Primetime had to be cancelled. And That Sucks.

Man, I miss this show so much. Sundays just don't feel the same without this show recapping the day's action and leading into the Sunday Nighter. NBC's show is alright, but they don't show enough highlights. Plus, that music could make the most boring game sound like an epic combined with Boomer's commentary.

they should bring back primetime, but I still do not see any time soon, because NBC has sunday night, and ESPN got Monday Night Football.
This what I would have done, put NFL PrimeTime after the game (about 11:30 pm EST), most likely ESPN2 (due to SportsCenter being on ESPN at the time) and then again on Monday, that would fit the best of both worlds. I do not like what NBC has done to the 7:30 time slot, but I think its the only solution.

sum of my best memories growin up was playin in the yard on Sunday and then eating dinner then watching prime-time to see the recap of all the games that i had missed while i was out playing.. the only tv show i ever watched on a weekly basis, I really need it back... it would be good to see tj and boom and all of booms silly player jingles lol my all time fav was thedolphin running back bernie parmelee and BOOMER would single the "no1 does it like sara lee tune" but "no1 does it like parmelee"

im not 100 percent sure about why they canceled the show but i think it has to do with espn not carrying the sunday night game bc the nfl dropped abc as a provider for monday night football. Therefor nbc has there highlight show before the sunday night game

NFL PrimeTime was the one truly great highlights show ever. berman, TJ, the background music, and the long highlight reels made it a must-watch every Sunday night. every other highlights show is crap. each game gets a 10 second highlight reel followed by 2 minutes of analysts ranting. Bring PrimeTime back.

This has got to be the DUMBEST thing ESPN ever did. This was the best show on tv period. I mean you watch the games all Sunday long. Soon as all the afternoon games went off I would always go straight to NFL Primetime to watch all the Highlights from around the league and let me say there is NO ONE that did this any better other than Chris & T.J. What is up with this stupid Blitz show? The show 2 games at best then you don't see them for another 20 min. What is that? Please bring back Primetime.

Not begin mean but what does that have to do with anything? I mean it's an NFL highlight show. It has nothing to do with the NBC show. NBC can still run there pre-game stuff they won't have many people watching though. It never fails soon as you get a great show to watch someone will come along and F it up.
