Multiculturalism is the OPPOSITE of Constitutional federalism. It is contrary to the Constitution. It has no legal standing. It erodes the rights of the founding peoples & hijacks their Legislatures. In the early years of British possession of Canada, Sir Edmund Burke declared it would be "cruel" to impose English laws & culture upon the French Canadians. In 1774, the Quebec Act affirmed French Canadians as DISTINCT on their soil. In 1867, this was reconfirmed. MULTICULT is INVASION & VIOLATION.
This woman, Chief Justice McLachlin, is a liar. Canada is precisely founded on "ethnic nationalism". That's why we have a CONFEDERATION with a Legislature for each of the founding peoples. Multiculturalism would have been the term had Canada been founded under a "legislative union" with only one Parliament for all, and no separate Legislatures. The entire history of Confederation was about SEPARATING Upper & Lower Canada, English & French, the Maritimes, so that each had its own culture & laws.
She's a LIAR. Canada is founded on FEDERALISM, a province and a legislature for each of the Founding Peoples. We are being WIPED out on our own soil by forced immigration of too-dissimilar and non-compatible cultures. They are turning ALL and ONLY the white, European-stock nations into "diverse" countries by population shift from areas SO DENSE the same could NOT be done to them. "Global nation" is an OXYMORON, there is no such thing. The idea was invented in the Mindwash Ministry.
This speech is BS. If you go back far enough in any country's history you will find that the original inhabitants are no longer there. Take Europe, there were at one time those that are referred to as "Old Europeans" but they were taken over by wave after wave of invading Indo-Europeans. It is arbitrary to say that any country is a "nation of Immigrants" every country is a country of invaders. That is the reality. I agree, the premise of this speech is political maneuvering, period.
People immigrate because of economic hardship in their own country. IOW, it's a means for them to move up the socio-economic ladder. Historically, the majority of Europe was broke, explaining why we (the US and Canada) had so many Irish and Norwegian immigrants in the past. As of late, the poorest countries are in Asia and Africa; Europe is all first world now. Which is why we have immigrants from there now, and which is why much of our work is outsourced to them.
@Truthiness231 - Interesting comment, thank you. In recent weeks on Montreal TV news, the immigration minister declared that "we are building up demographics". That suggests not just random immigration from poorer countries, but a specific PLAN to alter Canada in a particular way. The web site of Immigration Watch Canada documents an extraordinarily high level of immigration to Canada in the past 20 years. Valid questions arise because these are not normal rates of immigration.
@crazyforcanada - I consider it highly important that, at international law, people who are not deemed to be "founders" of a given nation, though living on its territory, are not seen as entitled to VOTE for or against its dissolution by SECESSION. Founding peoples, who are native to the territory, are called "belongers" and are viewed as having rights in the nation, notably the right to preserve the nation from secession. Immigrants being from "elsewhere" are not viewed as having such right.
@crazyforcanada - Prime Minister Stephen Harper routinely goes out of his way to declare that Quebec is a nation, but that Canada is "a nation of immigrants" -- which is tantatmount to saying it is not a nation; and appears to be a ploy to deprive founding Canadians of the right to preserve Canada against illegal secession. The secession of Quebec is not in fact a sovereignty movement, it's a front run by the multinationals to impose the North American Union by dissolving Canada.
