On the 21st of january my best friend martin lost an on going battle with brain cancer at 22 years old, while going through his itunes to find songs for his slide show I stumbled upon this song and I have been in love with it ever since. It is a perfect song that portrays who he was perfectly, and the name is a nice perk.
This song reminds me of my best friend. Shes always there for me no matter what. I know i can always count on her. She makes me happy when im sad, and i love her soo much. i couldnt imagine life without her, She is one of the best things thats ever happened to me. And im so grateful for her and everything shes done for me. Shes never let me down and hopefully i can return the favor with her. I hope she knows how much she means to me...
@2233golf2 brother come home from his friends they said mike went to rehab they wanted to see me but they couldnt 3 months later they come to pick me up to come home and my lil bros said for the first time michael we just wanna let you kno we love u that day i got home and my brothers aranged aparty i cried like a new born baby but his dad and them all changed me and made me a better man so tell the family i send my blessings and look forward the future cuz god has angels everywhere watchin us
@2233golf2 i was into drugs and alcohol something feirce but he woulnt giv up on tryin to make me a good man and i didnt change till he fell off a 3 story high church helpin a pastor fix the roof its started to pour he help my brother to the ladder and held on to he he tried to get on but slipped and died of enternal bleedin watch on how my bro changed impacted me and that next weekend he come home from hunting he wanted to show me his turkey he shot but my mom and stepdad sat down when my othr
my daughters best friend, her 8 year old border terrier was run over by a truck and died.
I know,it got nothing to do with this unique and heart warming song, but listening to these tunes makes me think about all the wonderful years, our Bodie gave us .They grew up together,
He comforted her, when life seemed all uphill,he made us smile, when there was not much to laugh at.
And he made me a better father by not raising up my little Esther all alone.
@2233golf2 im srry to hear that but its strange how people we know or even dont make us a better human being and if we didnt have people like that how would we turn out and he sounds like he was a good buddy and friend and sir i know the feelin my brothers real father was like a father there for me
this song is beautiful, anyone who truly loves music and their guitar can really relate to this song. my acoustic never leaves my side its helped me through alot of bad times and this song couldnt be more perfect
This song is about guitarist having a bond with his guitar. Its always there for him, through the good times and even more through the bad, at least for me. In my bad moments, I can pick up my Taylor and it seems as though it is playing itself. Almost like it understands what your I'm feeling. A song with no words, because none are needed.
Great song and incredible singer/songwriter..... It reminds me of a song by Joey & Rory titled " Heart of the Wood" on their album "Life of a Song" !!
Great song, i think anyone who play guitar, and who is very close to it can understand what hes talking about. Its amazing what a peace of wood can do.
I know this is wierd but i was in Frankenmuth MI yesterday and i went on the tour boat ride and the man driving the boat reminded me so much of Zac Brown Band 1st of all his name was Martin, 2nd he kept saying the word Knee Deep
Something about real music, Mr Brown is a true artist. This song makes me smile... something about an artist and their partner, guitar, brush, violin, mallet... what ever gives life to their vision.
i love this song, it shows what connection any musician has to his/her instrument... i can really relate to this song thats why its one of my favorite songs to hear, and play...great job on this one zac!
@Michiezz101 well i dont cry over amazing songs lol especially ones about guitars ... and yeah i didnt say the song wasnt amazing im wondering why your crying lol
@brandonch25 i almost cried because it reminds me of my horse Merlin that was rescued from abuse and it just reminds me of him cuz hes been through so much and still stands strong through everything
Zac said that his dad gave him this guitar when he was younger and it became his best friend...watched him play it live @ Merlefest this year...actually last night xD
Zac said that his dad gave him this guitar when he was younger and it became his best friend...watch him play it live @ Merlefest this year...actually last night xD
If this song is made out into a single on the radio...its going to get significant airtime. This song is one of the best on the album if not the best. Zac Brown is what country music needed.
I almost cry every time I hear this song. My grandpa's name was Martin. I lost him on November 18 of this past year, and it's so touching. All I can say is thank you Zac Brown for writing this song that touched so many hearts. It is a great song and I have a great connection with it. I was practically raised by my grandpa and this song describes our relationship perfectly
Does anyone realize that Tony Rice plays the acoustic on here?????
If you don't know who he is, then you need to be getting to know him. He's a truely amazing guitarist, who is famous for his fusion of jazz into bluegrass. He choice of guitar is of course a martin, and there is no doubt that is why he chose Tony Rice to play this song.
ZBB does not disappoint at all. I dont have their cd's but they are amazing. Bringing back what country is, which is pure talent. Not pretty boy fakes. And it honestly warms my heart to see people mention SRV. He is by far, in my opinion, one of the best if not the best guitarist ever. No doubt this guitar player here is amazing as well. I dont own an accoustic, but i am a guitarist, and i relate to this easily.
There's another side to the coin though. You say playing electric is easier, and playing on acoustic will show if your bad at all. Electric guitars can embarass you as well if you start trying to use good pickups.
One thing for sure, an accoustic guitar brings out the talent you have. You can't fake it like an electric guitar with all the add on effects that are out there. Just go to Guitar Center and listen to all that noise people call music. I would prefer anyone starting out on a guitar to not chose an electric at first.
@Tiremanwms Yeah but you can't fake the subtleties of electric guitar. Go give Stevie Ray Vaughan a listen and tell me that guy can't play haha. I hear what you are saying though. Nothing like walking in to a bunch of 15 year old kids who can't do shit without sweeps and an ass load of distortion.
@jrr619901 I play both, there will never be another Steve Ray. He played better backwards than I do forward. You know where I'm coming from, pedals are not all bad but they can make you sound better than you really are at times. They have their place but beginners need to learn how to play first then bring on the pedals
first song in a long time that actually brought tears to my eyes...this is the truest song i have ever heard!!!if you have played guitar for any length of time>>>you understand...
@kawirider23 Is your brother a guitar? cus thats wat he's talkin about lol just sayin.....hanging by a string..?..MARTIN......?...hollow in the middle.....filled up with music or locked in his shell again.....?it takes some fine tuning.....?....stronger than steel and wood...?..has his own voice....you get what you give sometimes it's just noise...he will write you a song. Just fyi
@panikdrumrguy No duh asshole. My brother and I play guitar together every day, it's just a fitting song seeing that his name is Martin and he plays guitar... Not gonna take shit from some arrogant kid looking to outsmart everyone else. Go away.
@kawirider23 someone needs counseling if what a little kid says makes you mad. Unlike you I wnt take offense to ur ignorance of my age ill just say 20's...asshole...And I was stating what the song said, and from what you typed it sounded like you didnt know he was talking about a guitar u made it seem like he was singing about a guy named martin thats why I left that comment ya tough guy, there always has to be someone to get mad over a simple choice of words in which they didnt read carefully.
I've only had my Martin for a few months, but you are so right. Sometimes when i'm down in the dumps, I can pick up my guitar and for a hour or two, i'm floating on air. That tone, that sound...what can I say that Zac hasn't already said?
This song simply shows Zac Brown's true lyrical genius, It takes some time to figure out that he's actually talking about a guitar but once you do, you realize it's pure genius! It's very difficult to paint a picture this well when writing a song, best song on the album in my opinion :D
@crzypimp935 I love this song too. I never figured it out even though I heard it several times but the first time my husband heard it he knew immediately what it was about. He's good! So is ZBB!!!!!
Great song !! I thought it was about a relationship Zac Brown had with his Dad or with an autistic kid or something. To be honest ... I'm a little disappointed it's about a guitar !
I'm not a musician, so i guess I can't appreciate fawning over an instrument ....
Tony Rice is the best guitar player EVER and is my hero!!! He is so versitale, he can play country, bluegrass, jazz, spacegrass, or what ever he wants. I love it, Zach Brown should use him more in their music he fits right in.
Without a doubt, the best song on the album The lyrics are STUNNING. And the solo at the end is ridiculously hard on an acoustic, yet Zac Brown plays it with perfection. Bravo.
I thought this song was about his guitar... i feel foolish. lol.

@justintierno that's because it's that good... it evokes not just the guitar but all the feelings a man has for his best friend.

Without a doubt, the best song on the album The lyrics are STUNNING. And the solo at the end is ridiculously hard on an acoustic, yet Zac Brown plays it with perfection. Bravo.

@kamensAVA Thats bluegrass guitar legend Tony Rice playing all the acoustic guitar stuff. The intro, middle break and ending.

probably one of the best on the new album! the lyrics paint such a visual of a martin guitar and the way guitars can heal
