  • @desiclue Oh please. What, did you read that in a fortune cookie? Winning isn't everything, it's the ONLY thing.

  • @desiclue it helps thought if you never lose

  • Now his Dad is going to be an olympic torch bearer in London.

  • @redmustang03 That is the most awesome thing ever, the best ending to this story would be to see Derrick join and run with his dad down the final stretch.. all the way to lighting the flame.

  • fuck you visa damn scumbags

  • fuck off visa

  • this commercial is narrated by god wow

  • absolutly amazing. brings me to tears every time.

  • Morgan Freeman is the only person that could narrate this

  • The look on his face when the video stops and goes into that picture of him wailing and crying truly moves me it's amazing how is dad loved him so much that he would break the rules of stepping on the track to help his son finish truly inspiring.....

  • MORGAN FREEMAN'S VOICE BRINGS COMFORT

  • fawk visa....

  • Damn I just realised they censored his dad's tshirt haha....never noticed that before (go look at actual footage of the race)

  • @kmg05zero ahaha yes they also censored the hat

  • @kmg05zero the hat too

  • Dude this sounds like Morgan Freeman. The best narrator EVERRRRRRRRR.

  • what does this have to do with visa? ....

  • i cant belive they even photo shopped his dads nike shirt.........

  • @TheAliarafa LOL that's the corporate suits for you

  • visa...destroying families and marriages one swipe at a time.

  • @yobuttin lol true

  • honestly i have no idea how Visa and track and field are even relevant

  • @WillingToPooNvm I guess because people paid to watch with a Visa card?

  • @jessicascorpio1 i doubt people would pay to see something that was free on television

  • @WillingToPooNvm What? I mean all those people in that crowd paid to see it. People pay every year for sporting events that can be seen on t.v.

  • Who's chopping onions, damnit?

  • Did you all know that Dereck Redmond's Dad is English - NOT American?

So why is he Fat ?

  • Awesome message Visa, your right , I'll call my dad to help me pay my FUCKING credit card bills.

  • morgan fucking freeman. epic voice.

  • it really took me.....

  • no words on cap and shirt

  • how can anyone not like this...

  • You can follow Derek Redmond on Twitter (Derek_Redmond) and see him talking about this race on the ParliamentSpeakers channel.

  • I'm pretty sure Morgan Freeman narrating a moment of your life is worth 1,000 gold medals

  • christie won the 100m not the 400m

  • @thomomanc5

ha yea i thought somone would notice that...

  • Comment removed

  • nope linford cristie won it

  • It would have been better without the Visa stamp on.

  • Heart determination to finish the race I say, he kept pushing no matter how much heart broken he lost that day. As he limped around the track, his father came waving to the medic to please get back..the son was in tears and in so much pain, the world will never forget the father and son 92 Olympic games. Never quit no matter what you do, this is an example of determination to follow through. They are winners in my book, I'm proud to say, It just a reminder, to always finish & never quit noway!

  • Wow this has fuck all to do with Visa, what a joke....

  • The winner of this race was soon forgotten, but Derek will never be forgotten. Now who is the real winner?

  • @Laxlegend1

Linford Christie.. people do remeber the winners, and some other stories

  • @sleonardani I meant without having to look them up, they are soon forgotten you fuckin cunt

  • @Laxlegend1 this was only the semi final which was won by Steve Lewis (44.50), but assuming ur talkin about the final, the "real winner" was Quincy Watts who never got the credit he deserved, especially considering he ran the second fastest 400m in history and an Olympic record at the time. I got big respect for Redmond, but to say he's the real winner because of his hamstring tear isn't fair..

  • @phastman1994 ... technically, watts is the winner...

but everyone saw redmond's determination to finish the race...

isn't that enough to make him the real winner?

  • @09pinkblanket Redmond's determination makes him a winner no doubt, but THE winner is the one who wins gold, to call Redmond the real winner isn't fair at all. And I agree that Redmond could've won this race but remember, this was only the semi final. In the final, the top 3 times were 43.50, 44.21, and 44.24, which were all faster than Redmond's PB of 44.50, even if he was 100% healthy in Barcelona, it would take pretty close to a perfect race just for him to make the podium IMO.

  • @09pinkblanket i agree 100%

  • @Laxlegend1 agree!!! the video may fade but in the minds and hearts of everyone who sees this, this story will serve as a reminder and inspiration...

  • @Laxlegend1 besides, if he hadn't had an accident, he might have also won it because if you would see, he's doing well then...

  • Morgan freeman is greater than norris chuck.

  • Thanks so much for this realy and amazing Video.

    Regards from Germany

  • visa would put their stamp on this beautiful moment corprate scum!

  • @carlawon I totally agree... the first time I saw the actual video (not visa commercial) i cried

    this video just disgusted me.

  • @carlawon Without this commercial, millions of people would not know about what happened that day. Nothing wrong with this.

  • @NmKing26 or.. you might see the irony of visa is one of many corporations tearing this country apart along with the fed and government boneheads. for them to use such a moment to push there product is a joke. its like bank of america and all state, making a commercial on doing whats right.. pish....

  • @carlawon Oh go protest something, you ignorant liberal douche bag.

  • @DLarson1083 blahahaha.. look at you, lashing out at everyone on youtube, you got daddy issues? Its a known fact that people fight on youtube for attention. I'm sorry if you are looking to argue, I dont do that, that is really 2002. You're going to have to get attention somewhere else. I will not reply again.. good luck with that!

  • @carlawon shutup liberal

  • wish to have a dad like that!

  • Derek was a great athlete but THE worst commentator. Can't find any of the stuff he did with Tim Hutchings (excellent in contrast) on Eurosport though.

  • he came to my school today .. :)

  • Anyone notice that they took the words off of his dads shirt and cap?

  • I love Visa commercials!!! They make it soo awesome. This guy is a true hero

  • Get chills every time I watch this. Derek is certainly my pick for lighting the torch at the 2012 Summer Games in London.

  • I find that very sad and touching..

  • lol they blanked out the fathers shirt which originally showed 'have you hugged your son today?'

  • @forbasketballonly it didnt say have you hugged your son today....

  • @nickthefox72

yes,, which is why they blanked it out

if you look at orignial footage thats what it says on his T

  • @forbasketballonly

No, it was a Nike shirt that said "Have you hugged your feet today" an advertisement for Nike running shoes.

  • visa makes the most touching and amazing

    commercials

  • I can't think of a better candidate to light the flame in 2012. Redgrave would be a decent choice too, considering what he overcame for such rewards, but he's perhaps a little too obvious.

I think Redmond would have more of the surprise factor, like Ali in Atlanta. For many, this image is what first springs to mind when they think of the 'Olympic spirit'. Also, it's the one thing that no man can keep a dry eye over.

  • Wat country was he representing?

  • He's British.

  • k spanks

  • dude, i loveeee NIKE!

  • nike is trash!!!!

  • theres another awesome commercial i just watched today i think its visa and its about an ice racer that lost his race after promising his dying sister he would win but he lost, then he did win eventually and took a victory lap with his daughter or something like that, i wish i could find that one.

  • Dan Jansen

  • That would be Dan Jansen. Not only gold medal winner but a world record time in the 1,000m

  • Notice they've airbrushed the writing off the father's T-shirt?

  • Copyright infringement issues.

  • Samuel Barber - Adagio for Strings

    its towards the end

  • Morgan Freeman Is By Far One of The Best Actors Ever!!

  • mas ele vivera o resta da vida como um campeao//1

  • lol i hope you were just kidding right

im pretty sure you can run when you tear your hamstring

show me how its done superman

  • hes not a pussy

have you ever loved something your whole

life and devoted your life to it

and all because of a injury

    it was takin away !

of course your heart would break and he also

tought he let his country down !

  • Kerri Strug moment is my favorite all time, but this is the triumph of human spirit and the love of a father!

  • That's the dumbest bunch of bullshit I ever heard, especially since he was WINNING at the point already, you're a jackass.

  • Yea they did, if you follow the statistics, he had a real good shot at the medal podium, and at about 150 meters he was pulling ahead for the semi.

  • This is the best one.

  • This commercial gets me everytime.

  • The logo on his dad's shirt is gone on the commercial. I guess it was "advertising" or something.

  • Redmond's dad was wearing a Nike shirt and hat. The shirt said "Have you hugged your foot today?" and the hat "Just do it"

  • I think it was Nike. 'Have you hugged your foot today' or something like that.

  • this is why i run

  • this commercial is amazing, i wish i could favorite it twice, it makes me cry everytime i watch it

  • Wow o_o That's amazing.

  • and no one cares

  • dude shutup you fag

  • umm how bout you guys dont use profanity on my page thank you

  • yep thats a good idea :)

  • @keari1818 CUNT!

  • @keari1818 fuck you cunt

  • @keari1818 Fuck you, and fuck the credit card company for hi-jacking a beautiful moment.

  • @bigkingdong fucking agree w you here!

  • lmao they edited out the dads shirt that said "have you hugged a foot today"

  • His hat was also a nike hat that said "Just do it." with the swoosh.

  • @tylergenis They've also edited the "Just do it" on his baseball cap.

  • @tylergenis but his hat said "Just Do It"

    and they did :)

  • This man went to my school you no!!

  • Comment removed

  • haha i love that the next comercial was a Venus commercial LOL ROFLEW!

  • If I could choose any one person on the Earth to read me a bedtime story, it would be Morgan Freeman.

  • seconded.

  • the only bad thing about this ad is when Morgan Freeman says "Visa, proud sponsor"

  • top 5 most incredible/inspirational moments in sporting history

  • Yes...i agree

  • the expression on his face reminds me of masaccio's "expulsion from the garden". just raw human emotion.

  • MORGAN FREEMAN FOR THE FUCKING WIN!!!

  • I bet if an Alien invaded earth and we played this commercial we'd own.

  • helllz yeah haha

  • Wtffffff?????

  • There is no finer example of success.

  • That shows you how much his dad cares.

  • I love this commercial <3

  • at this time this will sound like a cliche

but...it is definitely one of the best commecials ever

    so inspiring

this is the real thing, the most important thing...the power within

  • This seriously is the best commercial ever!!! Its should inspire people across the globe. Go TEAM WORLD!!!!!

  • God, I miss all these Visa commercials, and the Beijing Games in general so much...

  • yep

  • They definitely had a lot of inspirational commercials. I usually hate watching commercials, but I purposely took the time to watch the Visa ones.

  • the visas one with out the credit cards.

  • i cry every time! ah this is beautiful..

  • its probably my fave moment ever in Olympics history, but I still don't understand what it has to do with credit cards !?

  • thats amazing. but so sad at the same time.

  • the narrator sounds like morgan freeman to me..lol

  • i thought the same

  • it is morgan freeman

  • it is lol

  • It makes me wanan cry. The Pain on his face is soo powerful that it touches my soul.

  • It really hits me when Derek realizes it is his Dad coming ot his aid and Derek breaks down in his arms

  • I get chills every time I watch this. The look on his face when he finishes really gets to you. And the persons voice who's narrating really does a good job, everything he said was really touching.

  • Morgan Freeman is the voice (so yeah he does a good job)

  • aww this makes mecry so hard. no the fact that he fell but the fact that he got up. and his face omg his face was o full of pain omg it made me cry :(

  • this is one of the most depressing and yet inspiring videos i've ever seen and a true tribute to just how much finishing means to those select few that make it to the olympics

  • Love this one... makes me cry every time

  • this video is freakin DEEP

i tear up every time i see it

  • I thought this commercial was pretty deep. This is my favorite phrase now.

  • A champion is someone who gets up, even when he can't
