@redmustang03 That is the most awesome thing ever, the best ending to this story would be to see Derrick join and run with his dad down the final stretch.. all the way to lighting the flame.
The look on his face when the video stops and goes into that picture of him wailing and crying truly moves me it's amazing how is dad loved him so much that he would break the rules of stepping on the track to help his son finish truly inspiring.....

Great motivational piece. Check it our latest motivational video on my channel if you want more of that unmistakable and powerful feeling of invincibility..
Heart determination to finish the race I say, he kept pushing no matter how much heart broken he lost that day. As he limped around the track, his father came waving to the medic to please get back..the son was in tears and in so much pain, the world will never forget the father and son 92 Olympic games. Never quit no matter what you do, this is an example of determination to follow through. They are winners in my book, I'm proud to say, It just a reminder, to always finish & never quit noway!
@Laxlegend1 this was only the semi final which was won by Steve Lewis (44.50), but assuming ur talkin about the final, the "real winner" was Quincy Watts who never got the credit he deserved, especially considering he ran the second fastest 400m in history and an Olympic record at the time. I got big respect for Redmond, but to say he's the real winner because of his hamstring tear isn't fair..
@09pinkblanket Redmond's determination makes him a winner no doubt, but THE winner is the one who wins gold, to call Redmond the real winner isn't fair at all. And I agree that Redmond could've won this race but remember, this was only the semi final. In the final, the top 3 times were 43.50, 44.21, and 44.24, which were all faster than Redmond's PB of 44.50, even if he was 100% healthy in Barcelona, it would take pretty close to a perfect race just for him to make the podium IMO.
@NmKing26 or.. you might see the irony of visa is one of many corporations tearing this country apart along with the fed and government boneheads. for them to use such a moment to push there product is a joke. its like bank of america and all state, making a commercial on doing whats right.. pish....
@DLarson1083 blahahaha.. look at you, lashing out at everyone on youtube, you got daddy issues? Its a known fact that people fight on youtube for attention. I'm sorry if you are looking to argue, I dont do that, that is really 2002. You're going to have to get attention somewhere else. I will not reply again.. good luck with that!
Derek was a great athlete but THE worst commentator. Can't find any of the stuff he did with Tim Hutchings (excellent in contrast) on Eurosport though.
I can't think of a better candidate to light the flame in 2012. Redgrave would be a decent choice too, considering what he overcame for such rewards, but he's perhaps a little too obvious.
I think Redmond would have more of the surprise factor, like Ali in Atlanta. For many, this image is what first springs to mind when they think of the 'Olympic spirit'. Also, it's the one thing that no man can keep a dry eye over.
theres another awesome commercial i just watched today i think its visa and its about an ice racer that lost his race after promising his dying sister he would win but he lost, then he did win eventually and took a victory lap with his daughter or something like that, i wish i could find that one.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
yeah but part of being mature and being grown up is being realistic and setting an example. Redmond threw a prima donna ish hissy fit in front of the whole world instead of bearing it like a man.
A real tragedy is when these ethiopian and african runners, 4 whom a good run, is the only passsport out of a life of abject poverty get tripped and thrown over by some russian athlete in the olympics to quote han in enter the dragon "how many delicate wonders have been lost"
Redmond probably only pretended to be injured because he knew he wasn't going to qualify for the 400m final. He told his dad to jump out onto the track if he was losing so that he could showboat and get attention to line up endorsements.
