depends on what distro you pick. For yellow dog linux you need a DVD-R. That is the distro I am using in the video. Other distros can fit onto a cd-r e.g. ubuntu. As for speed, the hard drive size is inconsequential to that aspect.

I press alt+shift+1 usually i would only have to press it twice on the keyboard to configure. but it takes like 90 presses on my ds3 to configure i just gave up. something to do with ds3 being pressure senitive and all buttons being on axes. Any advice with that I wanna play metroid fusion with my controller.

the config file that you placed in the .mednafen folder already has the ds3 configuration by default. you may have messed it up by trying to configure it again. If it does not work by default replace the config file.

Its a bit of a pain but yes since I couldnt get the in emulator controller config to work I had to edit the config file. You can open the config file with gedit then scroll down untill you find the input for the emulator you are looking to change. associate the long code for its respective button and mix it up as you desire.

I followed your guide exactly and installed the snes emulator and i was able to get my ds3 controller working but mednafen is a pain in the ass. The mednafen folder thats supposed to be in the home folder is nowhere to be found even after i click show hidden files. i downloaded the mednafen.cfg file but it's just on my desktop doing nothing since there is nowhere to put it. please help this is so annoying. Everything else on your guide worked fine for me except mednafen.

go to your home folder and try typing .mednafen. be sure to have a period preceed the title as I have type in my previous sentence.

I figured out why it wasn't running. I needed to log in as root :

my big problem now is launching games through the terminal. It won't load them for shit. Only way I could roms to run is by right clicking and typing in "open with mednafen"

Metroid fusion seems to work flawlessly with sound and all but configuring my bluetooth ds3 is a problem.

mednafen has no front end and entirely command based. To run the emulator type mednafen in the terminal then type the rom path or drag and drop the rom into the terminal. In the video you see I do the later.

This will not effect the xmb side of things whatsoever. To switch back to the xmb from linux you just click a option in the menu called boot-game-os.

no linux is not pre-installed. you will have to download an iso of a distro and install it.

linux does not replace the the game os, once installed its an additional option that you can boot if you so chose. So yes, you can switch back and forth between the two. See my video ps3 and linux coexisting.

of course it fucking touch the cross media bar. windows has a gui os x and linux have a gui. a gui is only a way of reading shit off an os the xmb is an os. linux has a cli (command line interface) that can do alot more than it's gui thats why i put the i know linux cant touch the xmb becasue the xmb is installed on an eprom on the ps3's mobo it is encrypted it cant be touched by virtualy anything

I would say yes, had sony given full access to the hardware in linux. But when you install linux on your ps3 it operates under a hypervisor which limits your access to the hardware. One important aspect that is restricted is the RSX, with out that you cant run wow.

I havent tried to play any mkv files. though flv's, divix, avi and many other formats run just fine. You can play some old 3d games like Quake 2 and Duke Nukem 3D but with out access to the RSX in Linux your options are limited with 3d games.

look at the guide in the description for an iso. No gametap will not run, however you can run a good number of games available on gametap for free using emulators displayed in my videos.
