I don't care waht anyone thinks. To me Paul Gilbert is amazing. He plays with feeling and emotion. He doesn't just play as freakin' fast as he can. He feels the music unlike other artists.
@platinumaster7700 The dude on this picture is Juan Alderete also known as John Alderete the bass player, thats why he's holding the bass. Don't ask me why he's on the picture. But that's him. Great musician.
@0zzyfan44 please dont compare Yngwie and Paul, they are both great guitarists..... so dont hate appreciate and in the long run paul would rip Yngwie appart....because gilberts just that good so shut the fuck up
Paul and Yngwie are both legends and anyone who tries to compare great guitarists like these two just don't get it. This whole guitar "competition" thing is what annoyed me so much in the 80's and is why we eventually wound up with Grunge, no more solos and basically no good guitar. Listen to it, appreciate it for what it is -- meaning something you'll never come close to -- and stop bickering like little girls over who's the hottest Jonas Brother. This "versus" and who's better crap is BS!
@sailgoal Ha, I doubt it. I bet the reason Yngwie turned down the opportunity to play on this record with one of the greatest guitarists of all time is because he would have been shown up for the joke he has become over years of being conceited and up his own @ss. Yngwie is living in the shadows period. Who is he these days?
@iandeansilk He's a legend. Did you see G# tour he was hands down over the others. I'm not saying Paul and the other can't play. But Yngwie deserves the respect he broke through before any of them had a clue.
@sailgoal He is a douchebag. He lost the right to deserve respect by telling everybody he is the best. He isn't, and other than playing fast what has he ever done really? In fact, he has gotten worse over the years. His technique is fast becoming sloppy, his style is scrappy and he hasn't got a clue about what else has happened since the 80s.
@sailgoal I'm not entering into a debate with somebody who thinks Yngwie Malmsteen is better than Paul Gilbert. You obviously have the same cranial capacity as a small fish. Enjoy the rest of your life with your head up your ass.
@iandeansilk You are in a debate the difference is that your head was already up your ass you little pussy. You think Yngwie would not play with Paul because he would somehow lose? You fucking fleeb Yngwie probably had better things to do with his time. You are the one who is sadly mistaken because your ego is so big you think your opinion is better than the next guy. I bet you got beat up a lot in school ya big pussy!
Cut the bullshit. Gilbert has been a lifelong fan og Yngwie, and Yngwie loves the fact that Gilbert looks up to him. That being said I'm quite sure he had something better to do at that excact time, and that's the reason he didn't do it. If you so deeply want to know, just call Yngwie's managment or send Paul an email and ask. But calling Yngwie a bad player is just pure ignorance. He's the reason for neoclassical genre, shredding and a HUGE influence on Gilberts style of playing.
@mcintyreftw You're giving Yngwie far too much credit. Check out The Mahavishnu Orchestra's first album. On a speed and accuracy level...Yngwie's fantastic.
@sailgoal Dude, Yngwie had his first solo cd "rising force" in 1984. He was 18 when he released that meaning you were listening to tapes he released from Europe when he was 7 years old??? Wow, you need to send me those...
@sailgoal Yngwie is only the true innovator to those who have a memory span of a couple of decades... Also, that comment wasn't true was it? Because Yngwie did release Rising Force in 1984. Did you listen to recordings he did as a young child? I don't think so.
That's not true. Malmsteen was born only three years earlier than Gilbert. They're more like contemporaries rather than older vs. younger. Both have their own styles, albeit slightly similar, but this is really just Gilbert's attempt at playing the style of a contemporary.
I prefer the rock/metal shred more than Yngwie's neoclassical thing, and if I do feel like some more neoclassical stuff, my opinion is that Cacophony and especially Jason Becker blow Malmsteen's stuff away. There's just something about Yngwie's play style that's a bit textbook (even though it's way more technical than any of the shit I can play). But my opinion's suck anyway.
@Aremine ............ yingweis music is harmonic minor and phyrigian dominant ocaciannyl blues his music is boring compared too pauls listen too tech dif scarified um the fuzz universe album silence followed by a defening roar get out of my yard etc
@crisDAwog i know those songs, but pauls music is rock music...a great player but its just rock music. yngwie takes it to another level with his classical touch and the keyboard and everything.
this is TOTALLY like something malmsteen would do... the riffs and especially the solo, with the diminished runs and the style... even the modulation. It was Gilbert was like.... " oh ya, malmsteen??? ya I can do that too"!! ha ha
