@dkarlarivera Jesus prayed for Peter - Luke 22:32 says, "But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail." Is it a sin not to pray for people? 1 Samuel 12:23 answers this question, "As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD by failing to pray for you. Maybe you are different, and don't follow the words of YESHUA.....
We can pray for someone whos ill or needs something or what ever the cause but to go and ask a dead men or woman to help you with your prayers for GOD TO HEAR YOU,thats against the bible we only need Yeshua, thats it no one else, thats why he died and rose again for us. we need only one door to go to YHWH and thats Yeshua. plz tell me where in the bible say go to someone whos already dead pray to him to GOD to hear ur prayers?
@dkarlarivera Scripture indicates, those in heaven are aware of the prayers of those on earth. This can be seen, for example, in Revelation 5:8, where John depicts the saints in heaven offering our prayers to God under the form of "golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints." But if the saints in heaven are offering our prayers to God, then they must be aware of our prayers. They are aware of our petitions and present them to God by interceding for us.
@dkarlarivera 2 Mac 12:43 for sacrifice to be offered for the sins of the dead, thinking well and religiously concerning the resurrection, 44 (For if he had not hoped that they that were slain should rise again,it would have seemed superfluous and vain to pray for the dead) 46 It is therefore a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from sins.Tob8:5 For we are the children of saints, and we must not be joined together like heathens that know not God.
@dkarlarivera Eccl 23:[8] A sinner is caught in his own vanity, and the proud and the evil speakers shall fall thereby. [9] Let not thy mouth be accustomed to swearing: for in it there are many falls. [10] And let not the naming of God be usual in thy mouth, and meddle not with the names of saints, for thou shalt not escape free from them.
[11] For as a slave daily put to the question, is never without a blue mark: so every one that sweareth, and nameth, shall not be wholly pure from sin.

St. Francis, my favorite Saint. So good and so loving. He was loving to everyone, including lepers. He is as close to JESUS as we wish we could be. Thank you stevsilvia for the vid.
Simply beautiful. Why does other "Christians" attack Catholic Christians? Isn't it the most "un-Christ-like" thing to do? When I go to Mass, we Catholics, pray for unity among all Christians, never a derogatory word against other Christians. We don't worship the Pope, we believe in an Apostolic Church, the Vicar of Christ continues to preach to us in the present time, and so the NT included the teachings of the apostles in the Acts.
I felt down due to the discussion in my English class critiquing Jesus and God the Father while crediting Paine and Neitzche. I guess for the teacher being incredulous of any belief is necessary. I went home to find music on the internet to undo the dent in my soul and I found this. St. Francis is my patron saint during confirmation. To consider everything a miracle reminded me God is everywhere. "You love me, as if I were the only one to love!" Thank you for posting! This brings so much hope!
@adorima Why such anguish? Your Faith is not of this world. Keep praying for these people so that they may see the Truth. Apply yourself and always do your best at what you do, keep your Christian conscience and everything else will be just fine.
@PaternosterXVI Why such anguish? Because my faith is weak. But it's in my weakness that I know I need Jesus to have faith. My problem is I try to look for temporal "signs" that God is the truth, and half the time, people in this world will fight giving glory to God. You were right in advising me to do my best at whatever it is that I'm doing because I think I suck at everything. But, God will guide me and bring people to be his messengers, my hope I have to listen tho. Thank you for being one.
Thank you for this heartfelt and loving video. I am reading about the life of St Francis in two books right now and this song was just perfect. It made me cry too! May I ask if you are singing this song and wrote this interpretation of his prayer? It sings right to my heart!
Thank you so much for making this. I love saint Francis, I have the honour to be named after him and am entirely humbled by that honour. This song helps me to aspire to do my babysteps in his footsteps instead of being overwhelmed by the enormous grace and spirituality of this holy teacher. It helps me to feel worthy to even try. Thank you!
hello, did you compose this? it's so beautiful. st. francis is my first favorite saint. whenever my pride becomes too heavy & i go through pain & betrayal & it's hard to forgive even if i want to forgive...the healing process of the wounds...this is the prayer i think of until it sinks in my heart & compels me to apply it in life. i'm not a saint, i'm a person w/ tons of pride & scars. i still have yet to learn. it's not going to take 24 hrs. sir, is it ok you share w/ us the lyrics? God bless.
Jesus Christ Himself said "God is not a God of the Dead, but of the Living" (Matt 22:32)
This means that even if the Saints are physically dead, they are alive in God, and are sustained before the face of God in anticipation of the Resurrection.
Also, there are many instances in the Bible, both Old and new, of ordinary men and women interceding with God on behalf of humanity. For example, the Blessed Mother interceded during the wedding at Cana.
Indeed, a very touching song, awakens me to a moment of contemplation on God who loves each of us unconditionally, intensely and even madly in Christ Jesus His beloved Son.
I've totally fallen in love with this song! Please can I know the artist who sang this and in what album? Thanks so much for posting it! God bless you!
this is a very wonderful song. Can you by any chance if willing give me the chords of this song.i like it very much.i can sing this in church.thank you.
Mr. Silvia, that was intense. You don't know how much this moved me. I felt it especially at time where I feel so low and alone. May God bless you forever.
Remember Christians, the will of God is no Catholic, Protestant,Orthodox, Penticostal, Adventist, JW, Etc. NO DIVISION, Only Christians, holy, helping and sharing instead of buying and selling.
"That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me." (John 17:9-21)
AMEN &AMEN!!! HALLELUJAH, Thank-you, Jesus.Steve thank-you so much for the video and thinking of me. This video has given me a feeling,a feeling like I have never experienced before. In Christ's Love.Chaplain Daniel. John 14:27
very beautiful song and presentation here, thanks for sharing this, you enlighten my spiritual life again...I mean again because I havent been practicing my being catholic person. My heart bleeding for this song.
With tears of Joy in my heart, thank you St. Francis for being always with me and bless my life with miracles. Yours faithful, Milena of the mountain praying for her spiritual brother Thomas
Please, does anyone know who the original recording artist is for this song? This is his voice, but I've searched the web and have been unable to locate a name or any additional information. Thank you in advance for your help!
luv2read018, hi, the singer is Luke Garret. The song is called "As If I Was The Only One (To Love)". This CD came out in 1987 or 1997, I can't remember exactly...
thank you. This is the sweetest love song I've headr lately. ( and I spend hours searching music for documentaires all kinds of things )Do you mind if I ask:
Is this your own voice ? doesn't matter really. You'r voice or not. It's the voice of a multitude. Thank you again. I've been looking for a song to sing.
what a beautiful man, what a beautiful saint we have in Francis
Lord make me a channel of thy peace; that where there is hatred, I may bring love; that where there is wrong, I may bring the spirit of forgiveness; that where there is discord, I may bring harmony; that where there is error, I may bring truth; that where there is doubt, I may bring faith; that where there is despair, I may bring hope.
JelenaSRB87, when the Pope makes a dogma, after much study, research, prayer, and debate, he can make an infallible statement. This ability is from Jesus, who gave Peter the "keys".
Ability to know what is right and what is wrong comes from Holy Spirit! How does the pope receive gifts of Holy Spirit or any other Saint? I am curious to know how does it happens in catholic church! Do you also believe that our mind is fallen( our complete nature) and that human logic is wrong? What about my second question?
JelenaSRB87, your answer is that if everyone claims to receive the true interpretations of the bible, why are there so many different interpretations? and why are they all opposing interpretations? Jesus knew this would happen, and thus gave the "keys" to Peter. The Holy Spirit guides our Church... please answer my question, and then I will answer yours.
The fact that there are so many interpretations means that there are so many heresies..unfortunately! :( But the only through interpretation is that of a Holy Spirit, of course! Holy Spirit gave us through Apostles, and then early Church Fathers, Saints true interpretations of Lord Christ's words and Holy Spirit guides the only true Church and it must be One Church, right? I think all Apostles are equal and Holy!
That would really be so wonderful if the hierarchy in fact is an agent of such guided debate, study and reasearch. However. if you objectively examine the not so pretty history of the papacy, that is hardly the case. I have listened to Pope Benedict, and have been aware of his performance as the head of the Congreagtionn of the Doctrine of the Faith ...
Yes, I am Catholic. :-) Being such, I think, means, not being afraid of saying my mind- a parcel of the Church. St. Peter and Paul were also once very critical of each other :-) I guess, here is an inappopriate place, very sorry, was so inspired to comment on one of the remarks here that I thought needed addressing.
At any rate, I love and pray for St. Francis' intercessions every time! got a huge crucifix of San Damiano in my room, and different translations of the "Fioretti." Pax et bonum!
Hi TheRealTruth77: thanks for your message. You and me may be wrong, or the Vatican, or the Protestants, or theologians, or scientists may be wrong. But that doesn't matter no? What matters is we will have learned, and with each others' questionings will have altogether as a Church listened to the silent voice of Christ. No one person or institution, nor one comment here holds real certainty as to the mind of Christ cuz we are all in this TOGETHER. That, I think, is being Church and Catholic.
Hi TheRealTruth77, I also believe that Catholic faith and morals have the fullness of truth - embodied in the person of Christ - He has reached to us, but we are constantly reaching to him or trying our best to be reached "together as Church." What we have is this fundamental revelation. What we need to accomplish is to apply the different gifts (intellect, spirituality, service. etc.) ...
@Domodeath Hi Domodeath, it is your personal choice if you like to leave the Catholic faith and to join other Christianity, regardless whether it's SDA, Methodist, Church of Christ, list goes on and on. It is completely understandable that at some stage in life, ppl will have a different perspective of Catholic faith because of the teachings and practice.
I see what you are comparing here is like - cooking rice in a rice cooker vs cooking rice in a pot (it all makes rice anyway right?)
@amycecillau No one listen to him! Listen to me! Don't be tricked by falseness! I was catholic, I praised Mary, I commited all sorts of crimes as requested by the catholic cult! I want you all to turn away from the church! Their follows must decreases as Jesus' increase! Do not make the mistake I made! Jesus said "When you see the awful horrible, run into the wilderness!!" RUN! As far as you can! Into the wilderness! TRUST NO MAN! For every man is a liar! Turn to Jesus!
@Domodeath Im interested to know wat kind of crime did the Catholic teach u to do? To Kill? To disobey ur parents? To hate people? To commit adultery? Hey, y dn I be Mormon instead- I cant drink coffee and tea, and let d missionaries earn commissions from me? So, did the Cath minister earns commissions from u when u consult him with ur problems or FORCE u to make donation every week? Anyway, dn be too political about which denomination people r in- it is ur relationship with God that counts.
@Domodeath Jesus is God, Mary is not God. Joseph Smith is either a liar or a lunatic. Kind of convenient that the golden plates were taken to heaven so there would be no proof. Here is your proof. I believe in God the Father almighty creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only begotten son our Lord, who was born of the virgin named Mary, suffered under ponitous pilot, was crucified, died and was buried, he descended to hell on the third day he rose again,
@Domodeath he ascended into heaven and sitteth at the right hand of the Father almighty. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy spirit, the holy Catholic (universal) church the communion of saints (both on earth and in heaven because we are all one church) the forgiveness of sins the resurection of the body and the life ever lasting. In nomine patri, i filli, i spiritus Sancti Amen!
and his office as the current Pope, it seems as though, he's far from being open to debate. Apparently, based on my observations - and I might be wrong with these - the hierarchy is so much behind compared to science in uncovering God's will encoded in nature and in the sensum fidei (the wisdom of the People of God), perhaps precisely because the papacy has remained conservative and has not in fact grown from the its errors since the time of Inquisition and the time of Galileo...
This may have been an impetus that has driven prominent Catholic theologians - e.g. Hans Kung and James Alison - who were of course expectedly silenced by the Vatican - to invite the faithful to reflect together upon the meaning of papal infallibility. It may actually need "revising" and "re-imagining" as the "Old Testament" writings can only be completely reflected and re-imagined upon in the light of the New Testament...
In the same way, the miliatant Church of God - the People of God - can be enjoined to engage in a nuanced reading of the present times - and a collective faith wisdom may be called for in together re-imagining inadequate magisterial teachings of the past in light of such wisdom of the modern-day Church of God...
Yes. St. Francis is a canonized saint. He bore the stigmata of Christ. The Franciscan order of religious priests, brothers, and sisters is named for him.
What does that mean? Does it mean that a person is at the highest spiritual level when he/she has those wounds similar to Christ's ( although no one can experience what Lord did)
When a person bears the stigmata, these are chosen souls whom our Lord has chosen to bear His wounds. They miraculously appear, usually instantaneously and are most painful. There have been chosen souls e.g. St. Francis of Assisi, St. Catherine of Siena, St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina, Blessed Therese Neumann to name a few. These chosen souls are usually very advanced souls spiritually who can handle the demands of the soul to bear these wounds. All approved are in the TRUE faith- the Cath. Church
"these are chosen souls whom our Lord has chosen to bear His wounds"
I still don't understand what is the point of it? Why would anyone bear Lord's wounds? I can't imagine that Lord Christos wants anyone to suffer physically the way He did! To be honest,I think it is a spiritual deception!
Stigmata is a phenomenon that has been investigated for years. The 1st known stigmatist was St. Francis. There has been > 60 thru the years. I'm sure it is not a pleasant experience, but the soul unites his/her suffering with those of Our Lord. It certainly too is a trial. In scripture, "bear all things for Christ." Our Lord chooses them to bear the wounds. These are souls that posess meekness and humility to the point that anything could happen to them and they would welcome it from our Lord.
(cont'd) also, Jelena, like I said there have been over 60 known stigmatists thru the centuries since c. 1200 when St. Francis was around. The investigations on these are usually accompanied by miraculous occurences associated with these individuals as proof from God. There have been some reported hoaxes and self inflictions. They dont last. The ones chosen by Christ are given "supernatural" strength so to speak to endure it. Plus miracles happen. It also advances cause for sainthood.
Thank you for explanation! I appreciate that you want to discuss stigmata with a heretic! :) Was there any stigmata before schism when Church was "undivided"? Can you give me name of any Saint who experienced it before schism either from the West or East? I understand why this phenomenon is important to you just like we believe in uncreated Light or Light of Tabor which is a doctrine formulated by a great hesychast- Saint Gregory Palamas! I think that is a huge difference between us!
The earliest "recorded" stigmata was St. Francis. There couldve been someone earlier before the schism, but he's the earliest Im almost sure. Try a google search. You may have some luck. I've never heard of the term "uncreated light". What does your church teach about this? Also, I don't look at orthodox brethren as heretics per se, they never FULLY divorced from the Cath. Church like prots; We differ'd mainly on the H. Spir proceeding from the Father & Son. U still have sacraments! God bless
Yes, I think he is the earliest! So that phenomenon was not present before schism! Ok! That is what I wanted to know!If you are interested, you can read about Saint Gregory Palamas since he defined that doctrine which is extremely important in Orthodox Church! Well, thank you for not considering us to be heretics although I am not sure if all catholics would agree with you!:)
When I say I dont look upon orthodox as heretical, I say this strictly first on a Church teaching that is known as "material heresy", or, that they really dont know that it is heresy to deny the primacy of Peter and papal jurisdiction over the Church. Much different than "Formal Heresy". I know many Greek orthodox who are very nice people and love Our eucharistic Lord as well have a deep devotion and honor to the Blessed Mother. Im not the final judge neither. That's Jesus
Yes, we will never accept papal primacy! It is impossible that is why unity between us will never be established! But I do respect catholics and other christians although I have to say I do not like catholic church and other "churches".I mean I cannot accept false teachings the same way you do not accept! We make a distinction between people and heresy itself! That is why we never had inquistion! There is always a probability that the so-called heretics would return to the only true Church!
Yes, I understand how you feel as an orthodox, and given the fact that when the Church was first started it was indeed the early Greek Christian Church. The seat of Peter was later moved to Rome. Many of the early fathers and bishops were martyred. One thing to consider is the fact that IF the primacy "were" untrue, I seriously doubt that God would have waited a thousand years to reveal it. One of the main hallmarks of all of Christianity is when Jesus said, "Peter, I give YOU the Keys.."
"IF the primacy "were" untrue, I seriously doubt that God would have waited a thousand years to reveal it."
So, it means it is untrue since it appeared later not from the beginning of Christianity! I don't understand why do we need pope! We had Ecumenical Councils and Christ is the head of His Church not some man who is considered to be infallible! Even Saints never considered themselves to be infallible but the worst sinners of all!
JelenaSRB87, you have misunderstood the Catholic Faith. For one, the Pope is not considered infallible, that is a protestant lie. He is a sinner, like everyone else. If you have any questions, let me know...
So , the pope is not infallible! I understand that we are all sinners but the point is how does Holy Spirit speak through people( Saints)? When it comes to dogmas, pope does not make mistakes! Is that what you believe? One more question...do you believe that Orthodox Saints after schism are also Saints? If they are, and if Holy Spirit speak s through them as well, then why do they reject papal primacy and other dogmas that you have and we don't?
Some clarification on one of my previous statements. I mentioned the "seat of Peter was later moved to Rome". I didnt mean to imply that the seat of Peter had ever been anywhere before that. Peter never had his "seat" est'd anywhere, not even Rome.
The main reason that Rome was made the seat of The Church was due to the martyrdom of Peter and Paul there. After Peter, Linus was his successor. Linus too, was martyred. Then came Cletus. Then Clement.
You know you refer to yourself as a heretic here? I assume that is a gently mocking what you see as the Catholic view of you as an Orthodox Christian?
Do you know that in the Catechism is says '...With the Orthodox Churches, this communion is so profound 'that it lacks little to attain the fullness that would permit a common celebration of the Lord's Eucharist.'' (quote from 'Catechism of the Catholic Church' Geoffrey Chapman, and the quote within that from Paul VI, Discourse, 14 December 1975)?
Well, there are SOME differences! I am sure you know theological differences! However, those differences influence the way we see salvation, hell, sin..everything! And, of course, we think that Orthodox Church is One Holy Catholic Apostolic Church therefore non-orthodox CANNOT receive Holy Communion until they get baptized( in Orthodox way),which means they become Orthodox! :) I think that you are allowed to receive Holy Communion in Orthodox Church if there is no catholic church nearby.Right?
I'm still studying that (my father is Orthodox), but for what I see by now, I'm not so sure, unfortunately. We are discussing "Extra Ecclesiam nulla salus" (lat. There is no salvation outside of the Church), right? I can't see the official teaching (the discussion is what the original Church is).
"THANK YOU for this one.." Make me an instrument of your peace Where there is hatred let me sow love, Where there is injury let me sow pardon, Where there is doubt, faith, Where there is despair, hope, Where there is darkness, light, And where there is sadness, joy. O Lord, grant that I may not seek so much to be consoled as to console, To be understood as to understand, To be loved as to love.
I have this extended version of The Little Flowers of St. Francis. I never noticed Brother Giles, Bernard or Ruffino (sp?) that much before. Brother Juniper gets a lot of attention in Little Flowers stories--for a good reason, obviously, but the others often seem to be in the background, I think. Did Giovanni actually hang himself? He was the lovable, but eccentric, old man in Rossellini's movie. They really appear very human in my book from Image.
thank you steve for sharing your videos with me.. i like this one.. st.francis is one of my favorite saints.. and i love his prayer.. i pray it always.. thanks again! i hope i can have more videos from you..godbless!+jmj+
Thanks! Yeah, my mentality has me too often seeing God as the jealous just judge tallying up my merits and demerits. I mean, you have to be aware of that. I think, that needs a bit more emphasis for the average any Christian at most Masses and services today. Still...you know, maybe a great pastoral idea would be a Mass, differently tooled homilies, for melancholics and another for the more sanguine.
this very beautiful! i just thank god giving us st. francis and i thank st. francis for giving me 2 wonderful gift on my b-day....i just cant forget the wonderful vision ive had of him and st. claire!peace to all god be w/ us!!!

hello, did you compose this? it's so beautiful. st. francis is my first favorite saint. whenever my pride becomes too heavy & i go through pain & betrayal & it's hard to forgive even if i want to forgive...the healing process of the wounds...this is the prayer i think of until it sinks in my heart & compels me to apply it in life. i'm not a saint, i'm a person w/ tons of pride & scars. i still have yet to learn. it's not going to take 24 hrs. sir, is it ok you share w/ us the lyrics? God bless.

dkarlarivera, the saints are dead body but not spirit.
Intercessory prayer to the Saints
Tobit 12:12 - angel presents Tobit and Sarah's prayer to God
Romans 15:30 - join me by your prayers to God on my behalf
Ephesians 6:18-19 - Never get tired of staying awake to pray for all God's holy people
2 Thessalonians 1:11 - we always pray for you
2 Thessalonians 3:1 - finally, brothers, pray for us
Revelation 5:8 - angel offers prayers of the holy ones to God
Angels can pray for us, why can't saints?

@dkarlarivera

JelenaSRB87, when the Pope makes a dogma, after much study, research, prayer, and debate, he can make an infallible statement. This ability is from Jesus, who gave Peter the "keys".
stevesilvia 3 years ago
Ability to know what is right and what is wrong comes from Holy Spirit! How does the pope receive gifts of Holy Spirit or any other Saint? I am curious to know how does it happens in catholic church! Do you also believe that our mind is fallen( our complete nature) and that human logic is wrong? What about my second question?
JelenaSRB87 3 years ago
JelenaSRB87, your answer is that if everyone claims to receive the true interpretations of the bible, why are there so many different interpretations? and why are they all opposing interpretations? Jesus knew this would happen, and thus gave the "keys" to Peter. The Holy Spirit guides our Church... please answer my question, and then I will answer yours.
stevesilvia 3 years ago
The fact that there are so many interpretations means that there are so many heresies..unfortunately! :( But the only through interpretation is that of a Holy Spirit, of course! Holy Spirit gave us through Apostles, and then early Church Fathers, Saints true interpretations of Lord Christ's words and Holy Spirit guides the only true Church and it must be One Church, right? I think all Apostles are equal and Holy!
JelenaSRB87 3 years ago
That would really be so wonderful if the hierarchy in fact is an agent of such guided debate, study and reasearch. However. if you objectively examine the not so pretty history of the papacy, that is hardly the case. I have listened to Pope Benedict, and have been aware of his performance as the head of the Congreagtionn of the Doctrine of the Faith ...

Are you a Catholic?
TheRealTruth77 2 years ago
Yes, I am Catholic. :-) Being such, I think, means, not being afraid of saying my mind- a parcel of the Church. St. Peter and Paul were also once very critical of each other :-) I guess, here is an inappopriate place, very sorry, was so inspired to comment on one of the remarks here that I thought needed addressing.

Hi "francis"....didn't mean to come off as brash.
I am a devout Catholic but like you, I am not hesitant to call out the Hierachy when they are wrong in certain matters.
Peace
TheRealTruth77 2 years ago
Hi TheRealTruth77: thanks for your message. You and me may be wrong, or the Vatican, or the Protestants, or theologians, or scientists may be wrong. But that doesn't matter no? What matters is we will have learned, and with each others' questionings will have altogether as a Church listened to the silent voice of Christ. No one person or institution, nor one comment here holds real certainty as to the mind of Christ cuz we are all in this TOGETHER. That, I think, is being Church and Catholic.
francisrb714 2 years ago
I really believe in terms of Faith and Morals that the Catholic Faith has the truth and fullness of what God wanted revealed to man.
I consider Protestants who are humble and kind to have some truth in the Faith as well. We can learn from them too.
However, there are Protestant Cults and other religions that totally lead man astray. They will answer to our Lord.
TheRealTruth77 2 years ago 5
Hi TheRealTruth77, I also believe that Catholic faith and morals have the fullness of truth - embodied in the person of Christ - He has reached to us, but we are constantly reaching to him or trying our best to be reached "together as Church." What we have is this fundamental revelation. What we need to accomplish is to apply the different gifts (intellect, spirituality, service. etc.) ...
francisrb714 2 years ago

@Domodeath Hi Domodeath, it is your personal choice if you like to leave the Catholic faith and to join other Christianity, regardless whether it's SDA, Methodist, Church of Christ, list goes on and on. So, did the Cath minister earns commissions from u when u consult him with ur problems or FORCE u to make donation every week? @Domodeath Get off youtube your jerk!!!
Thebusanbill 1 year ago
@Domodeath Jesus is God, Mary is not God. Joseph Smith is either a liar or a lunatic. Kind of convenient that the golden plates were taken to heaven so there would be no proof. Here is your proof. I believe in God the Father almighty creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only begotten son our Lord, who was born of the virgin named Mary, suffered under ponitous pilot, was crucified, died and was buried, he descended to hell on the third day he rose again,
talitim 1 year ago
@Domodeath he ascended into heaven and sitteth at the right hand of the Father almighty. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy spirit, the holy Catholic (universal) church the communion of saints (both on earth and in heaven because we are all one church) the forgiveness of sins the resurection of the body and the life ever lasting. In nomine patri, i filli, i spiritus Sancti Amen!
talitim 1 year ago
and his office as the current Pope, it seems as though, he's far from being open to debate. Apparently, based on my observations - and I might be wrong with these - the hierarchy is so much behind compared to science in uncovering God's will encoded in nature and in the sensum fidei (the wisdom of the People of God), perhaps precisely because the papacy has remained conservative and has not in fact grown from the its errors since the time of Inquisition and the time of Galileo...
francisrb714 2 years ago
This may have been an impetus that has driven prominent Catholic theologians - e.g. Hans Kung and James Alison - who were of course expectedly silenced by the Vatican - to invite the faithful to reflect together upon the meaning of papal infallibility. It may actually need "revising" and "re-imagining" as the "Old Testament" writings can only be completely reflected and re-imagined upon in the light of the New Testament...
francisrb714 2 years ago
In the same way, the miliatant Church of God - the People of God - can be enjoined to engage in a nuanced reading of the present times - and a collective faith wisdom may be called for in together re-imagining inadequate magisterial teachings of the past in light of such wisdom of the modern-day Church of God...

Was he a Saint?
JelenaSRB87 3 years ago
Yes. St. Francis is a canonized saint. He bore the stigmata of Christ. The Franciscan order of religious priests, brothers, and sisters is named for him.
Palmetto1213 3 years ago
"He bore the stigmata of Christ."
What does that mean? Does it mean that a person is at the highest spiritual level when he/she has those wounds similar to Christ's ( although no one can experience what Lord did)
JelenaSRB87 3 years ago
When a person bears the stigmata, these are chosen souls whom our Lord has chosen to bear His wounds. They miraculously appear, usually instantaneously and are most painful. There have been chosen souls e.g. St. Francis of Assisi, St. Catherine of Siena, St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina, Blessed Therese Neumann to name a few. These chosen souls are usually very advanced souls spiritually who can handle the demands of the soul to bear these wounds. All approved are in the TRUE faith- the Cath. Church
Palmetto1213 3 years ago
"these are chosen souls whom our Lord has chosen to bear His wounds"
I still don't understand what is the point of it? Why would anyone bear Lord's wounds? I can't imagine that Lord Christos wants anyone to suffer physically the way He did! To be honest,I think it is a spiritual deception!
JelenaSRB87 3 years ago
Stigmata is a phenomenon that has been investigated for years. The 1st known stigmatist was St. Francis. There has been > 60 thru the years. I'm sure it is not a pleasant experience, but the soul unites his/her suffering with those of Our Lord. It certainly too is a trial. In scripture, "bear all things for Christ." Our Lord chooses them to bear the wounds. These are souls that posess meekness and humility to the point that anything could happen to them and they would welcome it from our Lord.
Palmetto1213 3 years ago
(cont'd) also, Jelena, like I said there have been over 60 known stigmatists thru the centuries since c. 1200 when St. Francis was around. The investigations on these are usually accompanied by miraculous occurences associated with these individuals as proof from God. There have been some reported hoaxes and self inflictions. They dont last. The ones chosen by Christ are given "supernatural" strength so to speak to endure it. Plus miracles happen. It also advances cause for sainthood.
Palmetto1213 3 years ago
Thank you for explanation! I appreciate that you want to discuss stigmata with a heretic! :) Was there any stigmata before schism when Church was "undivided"? Can you give me name of any Saint who experienced it before schism either from the West or East? I understand why this phenomenon is important to you just like we believe in uncreated Light or Light of Tabor which is a doctrine formulated by a great hesychast- Saint Gregory Palamas! I think that is a huge difference between us!
JelenaSRB87 3 years ago
The earliest "recorded" stigmata was St. Francis. There couldve been someone earlier before the schism, but he's the earliest Im almost sure. Try a google search. You may have some luck. I've never heard of the term "uncreated light". What does your church teach about this? Also, I don't look at orthodox brethren as heretics per se, they never FULLY divorced from the Cath. Church like prots; We differ'd mainly on the H. Spir proceeding from the Father & Son. U still have sacraments! God bless
Palmetto1213 3 years ago
Yes, I think he is the earliest! So that phenomenon was not present before schism! Ok! That is what I wanted to know!If you are interested, you can read about Saint Gregory Palamas since he defined that doctrine which is extremely important in Orthodox Church! Well, thank you for not considering us to be heretics although I am not sure if all catholics would agree with you!:)
JelenaSRB87 3 years ago
When I say I dont look upon orthodox as heretical, I say this strictly first on a Church teaching that is known as "material heresy", or, that they really dont know that it is heresy to deny the primacy of Peter and papal jurisdiction over the Church. Much different than "Formal Heresy". I know many Greek orthodox who are very nice people and love Our eucharistic Lord as well have a deep devotion and honor to the Blessed Mother. Im not the final judge neither. That's Jesus
Palmetto1213 3 years ago
Yes, we will never accept papal primacy! It is impossible that is why unity between us will never be established! But I do respect catholics and other christians although I have to say I do not like catholic church and other "churches".I mean I cannot accept false teachings the same way you do not accept! We make a distinction between people and heresy itself! That is why we never had inquistion! There is always a probability that the so-called heretics would return to the only true Church!
JelenaSRB87 3 years ago
Yes, I understand how you feel as an orthodox, and given the fact that when the Church was first started it was indeed the early Greek Christian Church. The seat of Peter was later moved to Rome. Many of the early fathers and bishops were martyred. One thing to consider is the fact that IF the primacy "were" untrue, I seriously doubt that God would have waited a thousand years to reveal it. One of the main hallmarks of all of Christianity is when Jesus said, "Peter, I give YOU the Keys.."
Palmetto1213 3 years ago
"IF the primacy "were" untrue, I seriously doubt that God would have waited a thousand years to reveal it."
So, it means it is untrue since it appeared later not from the beginning of Christianity! I don't understand why do we need pope! We had Ecumenical Councils and Christ is the head of His Church not some man who is considered to be infallible! Even Saints never considered themselves to be infallible but the worst sinners of all!
JelenaSRB87 3 years ago
JelenaSRB87, you have misunderstood the Catholic Faith. For one, the Pope is not considered infallible, that is a protestant lie. He is a sinner, like everyone else. If you have any questions, let me know...
stevesilvia 3 years ago
So , the pope is not infallible! I understand that we are all sinners but the point is how does Holy Spirit speak through people( Saints)? When it comes to dogmas, pope does not make mistakes! Is that what you believe? One more question...do you believe that Orthodox Saints after schism are also Saints? If they are, and if Holy Spirit speak s through them as well, then why do they reject papal primacy and other dogmas that you have and we don't?
JelenaSRB87 3 years ago
Some clarification on one of my previous statements. I mentioned the "seat of Peter was later moved to Rome". I didnt mean to imply that the seat of Peter had ever been anywhere before that. Peter never had his "seat" est'd anywhere, not even Rome.
The main reason that Rome was made the seat of The Church was due to the martyrdom of Peter and Paul there. After Peter, Linus was his successor. Linus too, was martyred. Then came Cletus. Then Clement.
Clement is mentioned in Phillippians 4:3
Palmetto1213 3 years ago 2
You know you refer to yourself as a heretic here? I assume that is a gently mocking what you see as the Catholic view of you as an Orthodox Christian?
Do you know that in the Catechism is says '...With the Orthodox Churches, this communion is so profound 'that it lacks little to attain the fullness that would permit a common celebration of the Lord's Eucharist.'' (quote from 'Catechism of the Catholic Church' Geoffrey Chapman, and the quote within that from Paul VI, Discourse, 14 December 1975)?
tri3unity 3 years ago
So, while there are certain differences, these are really very slight...
Correct me if I'm wrong!
God Bless :)
tri3unity 3 years ago
Well, there are SOME differences! I am sure you know theological differences! However, those differences influence the way we see salvation, hell, sin..everything! And, of course, we think that Orthodox Church is One Holy Catholic Apostolic Church therefore non-orthodox CANNOT receive Holy Communion until they get baptized( in Orthodox way),which means they become Orthodox! :) I think that you are allowed to receive Holy Communion in Orthodox Church if there is no catholic church nearby.Right?
JelenaSRB87 3 years ago
Yes, Orthodox mass and Eucharist is valid.
paxcoder 3 years ago 2
Well, if it is valid then I don't have to be catholic in order to be saved, right?
JelenaSRB87 3 years ago
I'm still studying that (my father is Orthodox), but for what I see by now, I'm not so sure, unfortunately. We are discussing "Extra Ecclesiam nulla salus" (lat. There is no salvation outside of the Church), right? I can't see the official teaching (the discussion is what the original Church is).
