  • guy @ 3:25...FUCK YOU

  • i give the ramones full credit for green day

  • @greendayray and what is even funnier is that you think that the offspring is a good band

  • @DEREKJENNINGSBASS you are an idiot if you think that you have to be good to sell lots of records. So, according to you, Justin Bieber is one of most awesome musicians of all time, isn't he? And why would Sonic Youth hate on greenday? They piss all over these "punk rockers" (aka GD)

  • I always tend to say stupid things on videos like this (where people fight over if GD is punk or not... Stuff like that) so I'm just gonna shut up.

  • their old stuff is way better. just puttin it out there

  • @HotZingers amen

  • 3:25

Says the man who is commercially accessible to be included in an interview such as this.

  • ...when they were on Epitaph they would brag about how 'punk' belongs on an indie, how they turned down major label offers, blah blah blah. But see, that's because Offspring (also on Epitaph) sold millions of copies, and naturally Rancid thought they would do the same. Well,it DIDN'T. So what does Rancid do? They sign to a major. What happened to 'punk' belonging on an indie? They went back to Epitaph, but, too late. They're now known as sellouts.

  • @MrMavs2011 You sound boring with all that copy , pasted info.

    Go away

  • @MrMavs2011 TL;DR You're a douche

  • ...Good Riddance, Wake me up when September Comes, Boulevard of Broken Dreams. How'd you expect your original fans to feel? Same thing happened to Good Charlotte. They come out on their 1st cd looking like NSYNC with guitars, get ragged on for being poseurs, WHINE about getting ragged on for being poseurs, so they get tatted up & wear Rancid shirts, then go on tour with...wait for it...Justin Timberlake!! Hello?!! Speaking of Rancid, now THERE'S a group that can be called sellouts...

  • I'm surprised at everyone getting their panties in a twist because people say Green Day sold out. How can Armstrong not understand why they say he's a sellout when before Dookie, he claims he never watched MTV cause it was nothin but pop crap, yet your band then makes videos for MTV and your band goes on there for promotions. Then, as if to prove they're punk, thet'll put out Insomniac, but when it fails to sell huge, they go back to writing KIIS-FM friendly songs like ...,

  • I love all these " punk" bands calling Green Day a sellout. Green Day is a band. A band plays music to, and for, people. Band signs to a record company$ so people can purchase music on vinyl, CD etc. Band in turn makes a percentage, record company and managers take most of it. The more records you sell, the higher the percentage. It would be nice to make a LIVIING at something you love, rather than living on your girlfriends couch eating beans and toast. I can't stand the word" sellout"

  • punk isn't the music you play.. punk is a style, and that my friend, is what green day will always have

  • I wanna kill those people who say that Green Day isn't punk! THEY ARE! They are just jealous!!!

  • You know what?

    You're not fucking invited!

There's the fucking door, see ya later!

  • LOOK Why are we bickering....PUNK ROCK is something explosive, unpredictable and savagely honest. If you think a certain act isnt punk because the got popular your a freaking narrow minded, trendy little poser. long live the idea of rebellion and punk rock.

  • ah :)

  • why are they saying that punks aren't suppose to earn a million dollars? isn't that a GOOD thing? jeez... and i personally dont care what genre green day is because i just love their songs

  • @molavegurl

FINALLY SOMEONE WHO CAN READ MY MIND!

  • I am an antichrist I am an anarchist Don't know what I want But I know how to get it I wanna destroy passerby 'Cause I wanna be Anarchy No dogsbody Anarchy for the UK It's coming sometime and maybe I give a wrong time stop at traffic line Your future dream is a sharpie's scheme. If you know what real punk is, you'll understand what I just wrote. I hope Bille Jean and Gay Cool and Mike Cunt realize how shitty Green Gay is.

  • @wimpyliberalbuster32 sex pistols are just as bad as green day. i love green day but the sex pistols re made that song for guitar hero? neither green day or sex pistols are real punk.

  • @wimpyliberalbuster32 oh bajesus :o

  • Haha. I love Tré...

  • I'm not sure if I like green day, everclear, or cage the elephant better...

  • Love 01:19 lol. but it is true

  • Fuck green day. Misfits are better.

  • I LOVE GREEN DAY! THEY'RE MY FUKIN LIFE!! XDDDD

  • dear man at 1:00

who the fuck are you to say what is punk and not punk go suck out motherfucker

    That is all.

  • selling out in my opinion is just a completely BS thing to say about any band, like they have the right to make whatever decisions they want. and besides, once they signed with reprise those first couple albums were similar to the lookout! albums. later on they matured and still deliver great music with mature subjects and lyrics. as for the pop vs punk argument, they take elements from both and fuse it into a more melodic style of punk. its really between the two genres. and they made it work

  • Awesome as Fuck i dont how minny fucking time i seen This whos gives A FUCK

  • ARE YOU KIDDING ME? The only thing that was sold out with green day is all of the CD's at stores, it's not their fault everybody loves them and that's a lie saying that punk bands don't sell a million albums, Nevermind- Nirvana. Tell me how many of those records sold.

  • @dyankeesfan9 nirvana is grunge not punk

  • @southparkjrd Grunge doesn't exist, it was a retarded label created by labels to describe any rock band from seattle... they all sound different, and listen to stone temple pilots do they sound anything like soundgarden at all? hell no.

Nirvana were a rock band that had punk influences... but they were neither punk nor "grunge"

  • @southparkjrd no two grunge bands sound alike grunge is a dumb ass label soundgarden is an alternative rock band alice in chains is a heavy metal band nirvana is a punk band dave grohl said so himself

  • What year was this video made in?

  • Green Day is not a punk band, but that's not an issue. (and the offspring just sucks, Sonic Youth pisses all over them)

  • Mosh pits LOL....since when was it possible to mosh to their songs?!?!?!!? LMFAO

  • I find it funny when at 0:54 they say green day isnt punk cause they sold a million records.. Maybe they themselves just werent good enough to reach platinum lol ... hating much?

  • @DEREKJENNINGSBASS whats even funnier is that same year (1994) the offspring sold 7 million copies of their album smash while still on epitaph records...so the critics (sonic youth) can eat that one too

  • who cares whether its punk or not just fucking listen to it i hate when rock is divided into groups

  • how on earth can people say that "real punk rock is just not commercially accessable." maybe hardcore isn't. but punk rock STARTED OUT as pop music. listen to The Sex Pistols, The Ramones, or The Circle Jerks if you don't believe me.

  • @mightyafrowhitey yea, that stuff was all over the Radio.Top 40 radio at that. Didn't The Ramones Beat on the brat stay at #1 for something like 37 weeks?

  • lol GRUNGE is a word... Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, pearl jam are all ALTERNATIVE

  • I think punk is whatever you define it to be, just as music is. Putting a set definition to a genre is like requiring all artists to use only number 2 pencils instead of number 4. What the fuck?

Anyway who gives a shit about the genre in the end? Just listen to some damn good music, dont give a flying ass what it is.

  • greenday had like 4 good songs. stp the bullshit

  • what's the song at 0:41?

  • @zitalee2 Hitchin' A Ride

  • k that guy said they were lalala happy face punk when theyre not theyre snot nose potty mouth sometimes angry and sometimes happy lalala face opunk haha and sad punk bottom line punk is punk and theyb redefined it better than n e one couldve

  • who is the guy who says "did u know they can play over 2 instruments? dont belive me watch this"?

  • @GamerMan57 david cross

  • 4:51 LOL

  • Green Day has been my favorite band since I was like 7 and I'm 18 now. They DID redefine punk. Just because they signed with a major record label and wanted bigger things for themselves doesn't make them sellouts. They are truly dedicated to what they do, and they are in the music business simply for the music and the fans. I have never in my life had more respect for a band, and they are without a doubt the best fucking live show you can go see. Green Day for life!

  • Is this a ps3 at 5:20 ?

  • I dont really liked green day...

  • @cakelover33 i dont really like you...

  • this whole green day stuff really .. you know made me know more about green day. i mean i even cried at some parts. and laughed like hell when tre milked a dog. so all im saying is that green day is a unique band. they're not betrayers of punk, they're not sellouts, they just want to move on. doesnt everyone want change once in a while?

  • it doesnt mean they sold out just because they got huge. selling out would be if someone from a major record label dictated how their music sounds to get them more plays on tv and on the radio. green day have always made awesome music

  • why is billie joel appearing in doc about greenday ? you know i h8 it when stars do this, exactly same with jerry lee lewis, i adore them but there 2 higher profiel to apprear in there own doc, its lke commenting on your own track or liking your own status, you just dont do it -500 coolness points for that.........

  • @vibrancy3 um, this is behind the music. very often the subjects of the documentary WILL be on the documentary....

  • @bitterman188 yeah i know i have no right ot argue here ether as watched all other 'behind the music'' 50cent was in his own doc, aerosmith etc (just so cool when the star aint around as they that big n you hear from there relatives)

  • What is the song at 4:11

  • sellouts my ass

  • Yeah, writing good riddance was probably the most punk move they've made tbh like mike said

  • What song is at 5:13?

  • Sellouts gtcfomw sick fuckers just because a punk band signs to a major label titles them as not punk? Is punk not doin wat the fuk u want to do ?

  • What's a sellout? And why was GD labeled as this?

  • FUCK EVERY1 THAT DISSES GREEN DAY!! GREEN DAY IZ WAY BETA THEN OTHERS!! wat a buch ov douches

  • The second time I saw Green Day at Gilman around 1993 I thought to myself, "these guys are so good, I don't know why everyone wouldn't like them." Turns out I was right. About a year later they put out Dookie and EVERYONE DID like them. Back in the old days everyone who was into Green Day knew it. They knew they were incredibly special. Green Day was getting bigger and bigger and bigger so I don't think they had a choice but to sign with a major.

  • people they arent sellouts they needed money a while back and people copyed them and sold the stuff they bought back then and dosent every band sell shirts and shit like that huh over night punk school does and theyre a small band im my town so shut up green day is not a sellout band

  • "Real punk is not commercially successful"? What the fuck?

Yeah, sure, Sex pistols wasn't commercially successful!

  • they suck simply because Billy Joe aka helium voice had the audacity to insult Layne Staley.

  • its not called "selling out"....its called "making it".... get over it....

  • they are punks they betrayed the rules of punk but punks break all rules so suck it peeps who h8 them green day rule

  • @jaketheman091 lol nirvana didnt redefine grunge nirvana MADE grunge

  • @AnjayBabaloo nirvana ARE grunge

  • LOL The Cnn Logo

  • alguien sabe donde verla traducida??

  • @80Kerplunk nadie te entiende , debes ponerlo en ingles para qe te respondan x)

  • I don't really like Green Day's music but I have a pretty good respect for people that do whatever they wanna do, fuck whatever else thinks. Bravo Green Day. :)

  • I saw this on tv on VH1classic it was so awesome. It talks about everything! even BIllie and his wife

  • @theshadowofafigure That's because that Behind the Music Remastered.

  • all the shitty critics saying they're sellouts anyone who's is in a band will know, that whatever music they write that sounds good to them and they enjoy playing, they will happilly keep it to show off, instead of going, no its not punk enough, and throwing it away, and put it this way if someone offered anyone a shit load of money and the oppotunity to play massive venues, we would cut the "noble" bullshit out and easily accept the offer

  • 4:30! hahahaha That's my friends dad, we used to skate his quarter pipe back in 98 when we where 11. Fucking A.

  • ISN'T DOING WHAT YOU WANT THE WHOLE FUCKING POINT OF PUNK? SO PUNK HAS A 'CODE' NOW THAT BANDS LIKE GREEN DAY SHOULD 'HONOR' AND TURN DOWN LABELS? ARE YOU PEOPLE FUCKING SANE? Excuse me, but this load of crap seriously irritates me like hell. So much for doing and expressing what you want, huh, Jeff Bale? WELL FUCK YOU. Goddamit, these musical all-knowing smartasses, who gives a shit about your opinion?!

Again, sorry, it just fucking pisses me off.

  • I truly think Green Day are not sellouts what so ever. They're just doing what they love to do, and that is making great punk rock. And if they make money in the process of doing what they love it's their buisness. If people the ones who think they're sellouts and don't like them period. like Billie said there's the ******* door. See ya later!

  • @dracidus10. Man fuck you, ya u have a right to call me a "dumbass" id like to see you part of a punk scene. Id like to see u even play in a band. i can already do whatever the hell i want to, cause guess what, I live in AMERICA and have the right to do whatever i want to do

  • "theres never been a punk band to sell 1 million records" are u kidding? The clash? the sex pistols? helllooooo!!!!!!!!!!

  • ...anybody notice the huge boner at 4:51? xD

  • They are EXTREMELY good to their fans! As long as they stay that way, they aren't sell outs in my book. I've been to their shows and the shit they do is awesome. There aren't many concerts you can go to where they allow over 15 or 20 people up on the stage and dance like hell with the performers!!! They are a HUGE band and yet they still act like they're a local band performing at a club. THAT is what makes me love them so much =)

  • They didnt sell out. They just started to suck. I dont think you guys know what sell-out means.

  • finally found it ((:

  • They need to do a sequel to this, because as big as Green Day was in 2001, they are so much bigger now!

  • R.I.P. Andy Armstrong - September 16th, 1982.

  • Why do you people consider any musicians signed to major labels and making six figure salaries to be sell outs? Besides, if they kept making the same records over and over again, your asses would all be complaining about THAT.

  • can someone please tell me how the song is called that starts around 5.37?

  • @Sabrina2403 It's "No One Knows" from Kerplunk! :)

  • there is no such thing as punk. nobody knows who made it and what it is.

  • there is no such thing as punk. nobody know who made it and what it is.

  • if real punk is not commercially accessible then how come the sex pistols and the ramones would get regular number 1s?

  • @bonfirejovi I agree with you, but The Ramones actually never had a number one, in the US or the UK. In the US their highest charting single was "Rockaway Beach", #66 on the charts. In the US their highest charting album was "End of the Century" something like #44 on the charts.

  • Green Day redefined Punk the same way Nirvana redefined Grunge. Both bands each had their own style of alternative rock.

  • @jaketheman091 Exactly. Most people assume that Green Day are posers just because a lot of their fans are young, they sold millions of records, they changed a little, and they're a mainstream 2010 band. If you look at the members' history you will see that they have been there 'n' done that. But people change, tastes change. Once you become a father and a husband, you need to take control of your priorities and do the best for your family. So guess what? Million dollar a day? Hell yeah!

  • @n00bfayce Yeah dude. theyre considered "sellout"s, because even the most generic, young audience are solely moved by traits of the band, more so than their music. Green Day are just as important as other greats like Beatles, Led Zep, Beach Boys, or Greatful dead. Shouldnt whether you like grunge, dreampop, hair metal, speed metal, acoustic etc.

    keep rockin!

  • @jaketheman091 nirvana popularised grunge they idnt redefine it

  • Question: How did Nirvana redefine a genre of music that wasn't coined until they arrived.

  • @joemeers92 Because Grunge had actually existed in the NW since the beginning of the 80s. And the term was actually coined in the mid 80s. Only when the media picked up on it in 1991 did everyone say "OMG GRUNGE"

  • @jaketheman091 well acually nirvana almost created grunge

  • @jaketheman091 Nirvana did not redefined grunge, they invented grunge.

  • @sonorama37 Um, Nirvana was FAR from "inventing" grunge....they came out at the end of the 80s, while many bands of the genre (Soundgarden, Green River, and the Fastbacks) made a name WAY before they even existed.

  • @jaketheman091 You compare grenday to Nirvana? I'm sorry for you you have no idea what punk rock is about and any true punk will say the same.I'm just watching this for kicks and laughs. Green Day are a POP band.

  • @scumgod13 If I told you that I have albums by JFA, Fugazi, Minor Threat, and Black Flag, AS WELL AS Green Day, is your mind blown? Seriously - I don't give a shit about what's "TRUE" punk rock, because I don't define myself in that way. I just appreciate any kind of rock music.

  • @jaketheman091 Well, I do too I love all Genre's of music from country to hardcore. but I'm not the punk Rock purist selling millions of records. If I could sell millions of records I'd do it in a second. But I wouldn't call it Punk Rock. That's asking people to hate you. Neil Young is my favorite guitarist then second is Greg Ginn.

    3:22 that's everyones feeling.

  • @scumgod13 agreed i'm just bored thats why i'm watching this...but yeah greenday is a pop band

  • @jaketheman091 only difference is that Green Day accepted it and Kurt Cobain offed himself. WHo is happier

  • @splotwarren Wow, your grammar is terrible. I couldn't understand a thing you typed.

  • Green Day is a very influencial rock band. People just don't want to see that because they are huge.

  • That's right... Green Day are not punk... they're better than that.

  • @splotwarren i agree. selling out is when you do something purely for money, despite the fact you probably hate it

  • GReen day is one of the best bands on earth today. theres no band like them. and every band has to start somewhere. they started out in the punk scene but when they singed a record deal, there not selouts they just wanted to be succesful but i bet they dont give a f**k bout the fame. they lvoe there fans and would do anything for them. Rock on green day. you guys are the best.

  • I LOVE GREEN DAY!!!!!!!

  • A lot of people give Green Day shit for signing the record deal. But when you really think about it, it was the best thing they could've done. If a band really loves music, they should try to make a life out of it. And that's exactly what Green Day did.

  • Green is whatever the fuck you want it to be, that's the beauty of it. Deal with it ♥

  • @splotwarren so true green day pretty much brought punk into the mainstream and people made that sound like a bad thing but its not

  • I like how Penelope Spheeris is wearing a Flux of Pink Indians shirt.

  • Green Day isn't 100% punk-they have a big Alternative Rock Sound but to say they're not Punk at all isn't right-they are a punk rock/alternative rock band

lot's of punk legends can see it-Iggy Pop, The Ramones, Joan Jett, etc.

  • @GothGaara92 theyve sold out like they have a punk sound and ethos but theyre not true punbk at heart

  • Jeff Bale needs to go die in a hole

  • IF YOU DENY THAT GREENDAY WERE PUNK YOU NEED SHOT IF YOU SAY THEY ARE PUNK NOW YOU NEED SHOT NOW THEY ARE ROCKSTARS PUNK ROCK DOES NOT HAVE ROCKSTARS THEY HAVE BECONE TOO MAINSTREAM BUBBLEGUM POP JUST LIKE SOO MANY OTHER BANDS I STILL HOLD GREENDAY WERE AN AWESOME BAND AND THERE FIRST THREE ALBUMS WERE PUNK AS FUCK AND THEN DOOKIE CAME ALONG AFTER THAT THEY WENT DOWN HILL AND FOR 21ST CENTURY BREAKDOWN THEY FELL OFF THE CLIFF SO :( GREENDAY REST IN PEACE. the caps are deliberate by the way!!

  • @greenday01989 try explaining it when you aren't a complete incomprehensible dumbass

  • @greenday01989 WE KNOW THE CAPS WERE DELIBERATE YOU PRICK. LEARN GRAMMAR AND SPELLING

  • @greenday01989 um, no mean to start a meaningless youtube fight, but they are still punk. And every ablum has to be diffrenent for them to be ood musicians. If you kept the EXACT same sound, it would be boring, but they are still punk. Well... thats my thought about you, you are intittled to whatever you believe.

  • @xxStrangeLabelxx hate them fights like but well obviously theyd gbet boring like but really there is a difference from changing sounds, good example of that is bad religeon and they remained good, but greenday changed for money and they have sold out to the big corporate gods!

  • Billie Joe likes destroying things...

  • Yeah .... they sellout every night they play, where ever they play

  • i wish thats all ihad to complain about

  • They are the best band ever! Even if they never became famous I would still love them now!

  • green day was approached with a lot of offers BEFORE and they rejected all of them until they accepted reprise because their contract gave them full control over their image, sound, etc.

they don't control how popular they become or how many people buy their records, even when they were signed to lookout! records, kerplunk sold like 50,000 copies which is huge for an underground band.

it's not their fault if they get popular.

  • What year is this from?

  • @splotwarren Not to mention that they also turned down quite a LOT of record deals before signing to Reprise.

  • i laughed so hard as 0:38 i have no idea why its just tres voice trying to be serious

    hahahahaha

  • @splotwarren your rite

  • i love it @3:59 so epiccccc

  • haven't watched this since it came out, thanks for posting

  • thumbs up if you always look through all the music channels for anything about green day!!!!

  • What the fuck is punk rock? Music is music. Either love it or leave it!

  • People don't understand that if 21 Guns was on their first album or Kerplunk no one would think twice about it being different, they are still the same old punk guys who hung out and did drugs.

  • I find it pathetic that people label them as sell outs. Bands like Bad Religion, Rancid, The Ramones, and The Clash were/are all signed on major Labels, yet no one seems to criticize them as much as Green Day. Being involved in my local punk scene I do get a lot of shit for even Considering green day a decent band. Punks are so god damn cliquey, The point of Punk rock is to do what you want and not give a shit about the societies opinion, that's exactly what Green Day's Doing.

  • @WoahSavanna love the comment, makes alot of sense..im in a band and i like green day...but people keep tellin me "theyr not REAL punk" im like wtf! XD

  • @WoahSavanna Sure but its still pop music...

  • @gregy606 Did I ever say it wasn't pop music?

  • @WoahSavanna Well compare 21 gun or American idiot to one of their earlier songs, i think then maybe you can see it?

  • @WoahSavanna I love you.

  • @WoahSavanna reason why those bands were not criticized is because they didn't sell millions of records

  • @WoahSavanna hey buddy, The clash, Ramones, and Rancid never did stuff for money. The biggest show the Clash ever played was in front of 300,000 people. Green Day has played in front of twice that, id say theve sold out.

  • @kilduff32 They didn't. Have you seen them selling their souls? Or just because you don't like their music anymore gives you the right to call them names? How about me taking my right to call you an "dumb-ass", just by following your kinder-garden logistics and understanding of reality? If you don't think I'm right calling you in that way, you should know better about what you're thinking about Green Day. PS:Try making a good punk record. When you'll make it better than GD, then do w/e you wish!

  • @WoahSavanna You are that close to being perfectly right. But, what's missing is that you didn't mention that punks aren't usually smart people that can understand the concept of originality of new and diversity. And when you get an hole underground scene dominated by such simplistic view upon every kind of art, you can get results that vary from the response to The Offspring, blink 182, Sum 41 and Green Day. Initially, all of them were genuine punk revival bands, but time changed them for money

  • @dracidus10

I can agree mostly with what you're saying, but I'm in my local punk scene and have to stick up for myself. we are smart, and original. Some of the most intelligent people I've ever met are punx. most of the punx I know are incredibly open minded when it comes to people, religion, and mostly music. without originality how would Op Ivy be able to mix such genres like Ska and Punk together?

All the true punx I know follow there own beliefs not others, that my friend is originality.

  • @WoahSavanna its not about the label its changing ur music to be played on the radio more often

  • @WoahSavanna

I honestly don't think they are sell outs

i think that to me their music has Declined since Nim Rod...

I LOVED everything till Nim rod came out

Their music just doesn't seem good anymore

    and you can like it

but it seems more teenage girls are drooling over billie and kinda ruining the name of Green Day.

    So enjoy the new

    But i prefer the old

  • @slashsslayer97 It's great that you can say that you don't like their new music as much, and still you sound nice! I wish more people were like you :)

I'm probably (?) one of the teenage girls that are "drooling over billie" but in the first place I'm a big Green Day fan, because I love thier music! It was their new music that I fell for and it's still that music I love the most. But thanks to Green Day I've also discoverd punk, and I'm telling ya: IT'S AWESOME! :D

    Love Green Day <3

  • @WoahSavanna I totally agree with you. :)

  • @WoahSavanna Hell yeah!

  • @WoahSavanna 3:25 is why Punkers label them as 'not punk' but ya know, its their life. Just because you sign your name on a label doesn't mean you are no longer a punk

  • Comment removed

  • @WoahSavanna 2:03 proves that theory

  • @WoahSavanna well said

  • @WoahSavanna rancid wasnt

  • @GreggleZz

Rancid's pretty major. they play on the fucking radio for Christ's sake

  • they r ok but over rated,
