A gendarme shooed us away after a bit. LOL way up above the city!! overlloking monaco and the ligurain sea.

perhaps this ladscape inspired 'view from the hill?' sur la mer?? !! its a beautiful area i would not be suprised at all!

  • correction - justin and marie live in beaulier- sur -mer, halfway between monaco and nice. he calls marie his 'flatmate'.cute.

  • Damn, that flute story cracked me up.

  • he lives in a flat - top of a hill - in Monaco. he records at Logical Box Studios in Genoa, Italy. an acquaintance of mine gets to see him in Monaco every once in a while. people do not disturb him, just say hi. he s a very low profile kind of person, very quiet. he s very gentle and elegant but he doesn t smile much, although he s got a great sense of humour. His telling the story of a jingle he and Jimmy Page did early 60s, man, he s intelligent and a very simple man.

  • today is oct 14th. Happy 65th birthday mr justin hayward! all the best always...

Thanks for all the beauty. God bless you. a fan since 1967.

  • Saint Tropez, french riviera

  • I've been in love with this man since 1972. The Moody Blues have been my absolute favorite band since then.

  • I've been in love with this man since 1972. The Moody Blues have been my favorite band since then.

  • justin is playing a martin D 28 ( I think) and he tunes out of standard tuning for 'who are you now' from the blue jays album. I wonder if he is still living with marie ? don't think so. sometimes you just have to move on from a marriage...toooo routine to bear.

I met him once in colorado- very nice guy but certainly is noticed by the girls ALOT. but he took a few minutes to chat. very kind person but seemed a bit distracted somehow like he was thinking of other things..maybe LSD trips !

  • @nootaramus What would give you the impression that he's moved on from Marie. He's still married.

  • @coyoteartist .... females "Hoping " LOL

  • A guitar picker he is, kind of reminds me of Neil Young.

  • love the story about poor Ray lol

  • He's so classy and gentle. Love his humor. And what a wonderful guitarist---it's great to see him so laid-back and playing his Martin acoustic. He's a very special person. My fondest wish is to meet him...but I've been wishing now for 25 years. sigh.

  • Revisited " Drift Wood". I didn't cheat I swear!

  • Banging away on an old Martin cool! creator of some of the most melodic music of our time

  • What a musician.

  • And to think many persons consider this man to be a 'not that good' guitarist. Overlooked, definitely, but not good...? B-S! The man is one of the BEST ever!

  • I wonder what kind of a guitar he is playing?

  • @JellyBellyMystic

    a Martin acustic

  • is it spain or italy/

  • he stay in his room just like i do one of greatest man who makeing the music shine on earth just becose it take time to still searching for a song it must be like that if you make the music part of your life

  • Justin is great

  • the things that man can do with a six string are truly inspiring.

  • I love these interviews that Justin and John give where they tell stories about the band. It shows a side of their personalitys that you might not otherwise see. Thank you redbaron863!! This stuff is great!

  • I love watching his fingers while he is playing guitar. I think I might love that as much as viewing his lovely face. But he has great guitar fingers, large hands and seems very at ease with his own playing. Its nice. I would like to play in his style, the odd way he picks through the chords. Its quite magical.

  • The master at his craft...absolutely lovely....thank you

  • Justin is truly wonderful and gifted. I have always loved the Moody's music ever since I was a teenager.

  • He has received so many awards for his writing. Hard to believe that the band can't get into the R&R Hall of Fame. Guess they'll wait for one of them to die. The Hall of Fame has become a joke since they have started inducting rap "artists". That ain't rock!

  • I wish more men were like Justin - A gentleman, who loves his lovely wife and beautfiul daughter - he has his genuine class & perspectives in place. Plus his talent - he's one in a billion - love you justin (I name my son after you. But he died in a accident) So you are very special in my husband and my life.

  • @bebebleau Sorry about your son.

  • Not only is Justin an amzing talent, he's such a nice person, what a generous spirit. I hope to meet him one day, what a fine chap! Tara'

  • but I noticed your other comment about how he is your favorite...so, stay on the right track, you'll confuse some of the newcomers to the Moodies!

  • This "lousy" guitar player has written some of the greatest classic rock hits ever. You heard of "nights in white satin"? ;-)

And especially on 12 string, he is a legend...

Don't despise him only because you saw him noodeling around in his appartment with lousy sound... Enter "Justin Hayward" in the search window and check him out!

  • Hey Scottmaster84, RELAX! Just kidding around! It's good to know that at least someone had the guts to jump on my case! The moody Blues are one of my favorite bands and were part of my life as I was growing up in the 60s&70s! Justin Hayward is the cream of the crop when it comes to song writing And composition! He's definitely up there with lennon&McCartney if not better in some way's! Gotta go....PEACE BROTHER!

  • Oh, that's pretty funny ! - that's gotta' be a joke, right? Yeah - you're just trying to get his Fans all upset - right? Sure, that's it.

  • Hey justdeepblue,Yes it is my friend! It makes one wonder about some of the people that leave messages on youtube! My point is this; Alot of people just want to aggravate other people with their comments! Peace to you!

  • @MrSharkey11 Thats cause you have no clue Sharkey!

  • Hey MYHOLLANDGIRL, If you scrolled down you would have read all my comments and seen I do indeed have a clue. In any case what do you mean. give me a clue to what you mean?

  • Does anyone know what the make of that guitar is and how old it might be?

  • It appears to be a Martin D-28.

  • sure is old... might be a "Martin & Co" but that's just a guess

  • Is it just me or couldn't you just sit there all day and listen to Justin play his acoustic guitar in his little studio like that? I know I could! I would love to meet Justin and thank him for the many years of great music and happiness he has given us all!!! See you all in Montclair, NJ on 3/31/10!!!!!!!

  • A very talented musician and very underrated. The best and that is the one and only Justin!

  • This is his house in Monaco, not apartment. He still has those sexy long sideburns. Love the way Justin tells

a story. He can have you rolling on the floor. He plays keyboards you see in that room. "The Day We Meet Again" is a good example. Something tells me his kisses very passionately. lol

  • @PinkPrism008 I recently went to my first concert. I saw them at the Stanley theater in Utica NY. I heard "The Day We Meet Again" for the first time. AWESOME!

  • i agree about kissing him slowly. I could only imagine. MY GOD.......what an unbelievable face............and hair just like mine and that body.......I feel vaklept!

  • Nice work Justin. J.H. was an influence on my 21-year old son's name. The Moodies were sheer genius, by far my favorite band - especially the 1967-1974 years. I was fortunate to see one of their last concerts with Mike in 1974.

  • I would give ANYTHING just to sit and talk to this man. There is a beauty in him I can't begin to understand. Oh.....and I would love to just kiss him slowly.....:-)

  • I could listen to Jus pick like that, off the cuff, hour after hour.

  • where does he live now

  • This is lovely - but I honestly hope that every morning you wake up, Justin, that you look at your wife and tell her how beautiful she is. Life is not with us forever.

  • This is definetely in MONACO (I used to live there), but I was looking for a MUSIC video of him singing Nights in White Satin "40" years ago (sound scary, doesn't it?)

  • BLUE GUITAR

  • I loved this! Justin does a great interview. He has so many funny stories. I could listen to him talk for hours. Justin has such a nice speaking voice. Plus he's dynamite on the guitar, as the video showed.

Justin is SUCH a talented man! Thanks for posting this.

    Love, Jusfriend

  • Hay Graeme, listen to Mike he says he is sorry, so what more do you want. The next time I see the Moodys, I know Mike will be their it's up to you Justin. Now go for it. One More Time To Live

  • you need to get outside more - puttin' on a little weight

  • Jerry Weintraub also managed the Carpenters when they fired Sherwin Bash!

  • driftwood, who are you now. nice to hear those songs on acoustic. justin is a great guitarist. what a great interview.

  • kinda bummed out tonite, you know just not feeling right, and this vid just brings a smile to my face, and a few laughs watch it all the time, and trying to following his guitar fun but ..good luck !

  • ....What A Legend..... Great To See Justin Being so Natural....A Legend And A Man...Such A Generous Spirit....

  • Thanks Moody blues fans, we don't know each other, yet the feelings of kinship are real.

  • one the greatest men to have ever walked the earth...

  • I've never thought that i could see SIR Justin Hayward this close and talking 'bout stories from the band. THANKS¡¡ God exists YOUTUBE, 'coz i dont think another way to experience this......very moody¡

  • This is amazing footage of the most perfect man of my generation. He seems so normal and natural for such a talented musician. Thank God for Justin Hayward!

  • ....Just Plain.... Sexy.....

  • Excellent! To see Justin Hayward so close up and personal! Thank you so much for posting!

  • Yes, truly one of the great singer/songwriters/performers....

lesser known because the music press hated the well-crafted sound and pantheism...thank you1

  • Definitely some of "Driftwood" in there. One of my favorites.

  • Love the stories. So interesting to hear about such a wonderful band. Such history and loyalty.

  • What a lovely man and funny sweet memories:)

  • He's one of the all-time greats, and yet, I don't think everyone is aware of it.

  • Thank You Moody Blues for making my journey

    in life a great one.

  • Gotta support that- definitely wonderful positive music.

  • been following the moodys all my life and iam only 27!. keep the good work up boys peace on

  • I've been a big fan since the age of 11......now 42. They are just so damn fine!!

  • Yeah they are one of my favorite bands. I'm only 18. I got to know them, because my father sometimes play music of them and I loved "Nights in white satin" and wanted to know more about their music :)

  • Or "Who are you Now" From Bluejays

  • This part at 6:10 and on,was So Funny, the way he parodied Tom Hewlett was so special

  • With that kind of talent ,he could be combinging melodies in one rift! WOW--amazing skill!

  • I think that the first part of the video (45 seconds or so) is a mix of songs. It sounds like it could be a combination of Songwriter Pt.1, Lay it on Me, and Stagedoor. I could be completely wrong, but at first listen, that's what it sounds like.

  • Thanks to Justin and the rest of the Moodies, for giving us a little glimpse into your lives. It really completes the experience for me. Ernie

  • He plays one song for the first 45 seconds or so. I'm not sure what that is. Right after that, he plays Driftwood. As for the song he plays after he tunes, Who Are You Now is definitely a good guess. It could also be Children of Paradise (off his solo album, View From the Hill). Looks like we have a little mystery here ;-)

  • lostchord, maybe the first song is the beginning of "it's up to you"? Just a wild guess.....:)

  • I've been a fan for 40 years and Justin love you so much..!! Keep on truckin' baby!

  • As a young fan(16 years old), The Moody Blues are my favorite musical group that I have discovered and probably will for life. It is a shame that groups today cannot measure up in both talent and sound...

  • This is the real s**t boys and girls, many thanks for posting!!!

  • Well, the things you find on You Tube. Hadn't seen this before. Thanks for feeding my habit! Love the Moodies, especially JH. Will be seeing him soon - in about 10 days! YAY!

  • Look at Tarenbek's vid of Never Comes The Day, I beleave it's the first one ???????

  • O.M.G. the guy that lent Ray the flute...to be him!!!!!

  • I just saw Driftwood for the first time, is this the same song acoustic ?

  • I wish I'd been the videographer here...

  • Me too!! *wink*wink* :D

  • he looks like an old man now, but he still plays well.

  • what a shallow comment he's probably 20 years younger than you inside

  • I'd say he looks alright for over 60.

  • That was a great Interview! wonderful stories he shared.. thank you!

  • Okay, I am driving myself absolutely NUTS trying to place the first song that he plays.... I come back to this video time and time again trying to figure it out!! Can anybody help? GRRRR!!!!!

  • Sounds a bit like Driftwood(Octave album)

  • That's the second song. We're trying to place the first one.

  • I will locate it. It is off one of his 2 initial Threshold solo albums. I think the one containing Raised on Love.

  • I believe the second song after he tunes his guitar is who are you now from blue jays with john lodge. Yeah, I'm stumped one the first one too!

  • there is a bit of IN MY WORLD in song 1--not sure it is any one song

  • Finally, some fresh dialog from Justin. Good story about Ray! Thanks.

  • either he is morphing into rick parfitt, or vice versa. What's going on guys!??

  • I believe he has a wife and a daughter am I correct?

  • Yes, your´re right.

  • @mrbliss3401 Yes.

  • @mrbliss3401 Marie is his wife and Dorieme is his daughter

  • This is from the Moody Blues DVD in the Classic Artists series, released in the UK in October 2006. It was recorded in 2005/2006.

  • great interview, THANKS - is there any more to it we could have the pleasure of viewing? when was it taken.,..what year do you know?

    Carolyn

  • This is from 2005.

  • Great clip. Thanks for posting.

    That was filmed in Monaco.

  • Thanks so much for posting this video.

  • No he lives in a tiny apartment in Monaco in the south of France.

  • Justin is great at recounting incidents in the band's career. Very funny.

Justin has an apartment in Monaco and two properties in England. Spain is a new one on me. I haven't heard him mention anything about Spain. John Lodge has or had a property in Spain. That is definitely Monaco though.

  • Monte Carlo is not in Spain. Monte Carlo is in Monaco. There are no huge ranch like places in Monaco. Monaco is about the size of a handkerchief.

  • He said Spain in another interview it looks like Spain.

  • again thank you for your cool MB stuff

  • no more ring? thanks for posting. i wish the camera person kept a more steady hand!

  • Wow! thanks so much!

By the way where does He live now? Does somebody know?

  • justin hayward now lives in a huge ranch like place in Monte Carlo,Spain
