@AnimeAndrew1983 It was on the Wikipedia page for "Super Sentai." However, shortly after this video was made I tried to check it again and the chart had been taken down.
I just read all the comment, and I must say something now, since no one else brought it up. gold and silver are both colors. plus, they are colors power rangers has been using more or less from the start; with the first gold ranger appearing in zeo, and the first silver ranger appearing in in space. since then there have been 5 more silvers, including an american made ranger, and 3 more golds. this isn't uncommon.
Orange is really close in shade and Purple's far in the basic color wheel. Maybe they just thought the colors were irrelevant or less popular than the basic Red blue and yellow. In series with males as Yellow rangers though, I think an orange ranger'd be totally acceptable. Hell, if US shot there own action scenes, I'm sure yellow rangers would be replaced every other season by an orange ranger. Purple could replace pink or blue some seasons too.
@tokutom And that was just the characters, who knows about the actresses?
Peggy from Goranger & Karen from JAKQ were supposed to be half white as well (seems to have been a trend with early pinks), but I dunno about the actresses.
There HAVE been at least 2 non-Japanese actors in the series: Kane Kosugi (Jiraiya in Kakuranger, the character was foreign too), and Sotaru (Ken in Gekiranger).
They were both Japanese Americans, mind you, but natural-born US citizens none the less.
* And for the leadership thing: Red is the color of heroism in Japan. Therefore, the leading Rangers always wear red. And mind that this show was made in Japan. If it was made in the USA, the red Ranger had to be American, of course. And mind further; who is the only team member besides Battle Japan who could wear a red costume and still keep his flag motif? Yeah...
But you're certainly right about the characters being way to stereotypical, even racist, for modern media standards.
@RokuroCarisu Of course Battle Japan would be the leader in a show created for a Japanese audience. Our point was that this would cause this particular season to be even more difficult to adapt for an American audience if they ever wished to do so retroactively. This factor, combined with the rest that we stated, makes this season (the only one to ever have an orange ranger) all the more less likely (perhaps more so than any other season of Super Sentai) to ever be brought to America.
Only in Soviet Russia, Rangers can be orange. ^^°
Joke aside. Someone didn't do enough research here. The Battle Fever team members were all Japanese and just trained in the countries they represent, with the exception of Miss America, whose both incarnations were half Japanese, half American. And she has nothing in common with Wonder Woman, aside from being a superheroine in a red, white and blue, star spangled and striped costume. *
@RokuroCarisu We never said that the characters were from those countries, but rather that the rangers were meant to serve as representatives of those countries. As for Miss America, when we researched the character on the official Super Sentai fan page there was a general consensus that she, in one way or another, demonstrated direct influences from the character of Wonder Woman.
I don't think there is any grand conspiricy at work, I think orange is just a weak color for a ranger. but I could be wrong, maybe japan just hates the color orange. even deka swan could just as easily be called a white ranger rather then an orange ranger.
the only way there could have been a orange ranger would be in Engine Senati Go-Onger (RPM). with Engine 6, Engine Carrygator, there could have been one but unfortunately not. :(
That video was close to 8 minutes long and it was nothing, but talking about why there should be an orange ranger... and I had no problem watching the whole thing. Good job!
you should do more videos like this... it is awesome! I mean, it doesn't have to be about Power Rangers, although i would love that, but cmon, you could easily make a series out of this style! Also, what about Chopper/Rhino Ranger from Jyuken Sentai GekiRanger/Power Rangers Jungle Fury? He was basically an Orange ranger!
I'm a little surprised you didn't mention Carrigator/Croc Carrier at the end, since it's an orange mech without an orange ranger, being remote-controlled by Go-On Black/Ranger Operator Series Black. Then again, Go-Onger/RPM had 12 zords, 5 of which never saw a Ranger pilot (2 in the RPM toyline.)
It's too bad a Super Sentai fan in here Youtube would rather label Battle Cossack a yellow ranger, yet we know he is officially an orange ranger. Such an idiot to make that claim. Such a disappointment Wikipedia took out the color chart.
@6arcsn1sky I would also label Cossack as a yellow ranger, mostly because of not only the obvious lack of orange rangers, but the role he filled on the team. He played a role in combat most often filled at the time by male yellow rangers.
@Chaosdude7111 Though Battle Cossack was the strongest member, I'm one of the most that still considers them, as in Kensaku Shiraishi and, his successor, Jin Makoto, an orange ranger. Nowadays, we see different colors who would be the strong guy of the squadron since the series has women as yellow rangers
I completely agree with you. I even like to say that if I was ever in charge of one offical super sentai or power ranger series that for one whole season they would need to have an orange ranger (not one of those seasons were they have a 3 week break in it). Another thing is the american power rangers have gotten rid of the pink ranger. What was the fact that pink is a "girls only" color? Bullshit!!
You all forgot about the original inclusion of a gold ranger, in the Zeo series; which was mainly black with some gold stripes...
Anybody else ever notice that black rangers rarely appeared after Space Rangers? Or that green rangers and black rangers have NEVER been in the same season as one another? The only time I found a black and green ranger in the same episode (excluding dino thunder flashback) was with overdrive + random rangers. Which pretty much doesn't count >_>
@zeromasterd2 I'm commenting on something you said last year. you said green and black NEVER appear together in power rangers. you are mostly right since green and black were interchangible colors. but go watch power rangers rpm. they have a black and green ranger as part of the base team. I also refer you to liveman.
idk its half and half to me about the orange ranger i mean i always wanted to see one with them but when i think about lining all the ranger colors up with orange its kindof like a rainbow which seems kindof gay so wow why not add purple too and make it complete.... which i think there already is a purple ranger... but its still kindof sad to have all the other colors and just throw orange to the side
DekaSwan/Kat Rangers, even if people do not like it, ARE classified as an orange ranger. There is no color more prominent on her suit, it's white and orange, and there's a lot more orange. Just because she only existed one episode, and wasn't named "Orange Ranger/DekaOrange" doesnt mean she wasn't. RJ was a purple ranger, even though he was labeled "Wolf Ranger" -.-;
i dont see the big deal. and btw in power rangers ninja storm wer crimson and NAVY ranger. but mayb its different on hurricranger. anyway its totally LAME that the orange ranger was X-REMELY temparary and kindof the cat ranger.but i guess ther wer 2 many alrdy.but if thats the case y show them in the first place?
Loved the comedy, but my fan-side must bring up that you forgot the five evil female rangers, Hanaranger, from Kakuranger (japanese version of Power Rangers season 3/"Mighty Morphin' Alien Rangers"). Their colors were pink, green, blue, purple and ORANGE!
hey I think the red ranger in Battle Fever J, represents Japan.
You see there is a red circle just like the circle on Japanese flag on his suit, means he represents Japan. Not america. The america has been represented by the only girl ranger in team
It was supposed to represent Japan. What they are saying in the video is that it is a RIP OFF of captain america. That whole notion is based on the fact that it was the intention since an idea of Marvels fell through with the ceatos of super sentai and they just rehashed the idea.
They're not dissing anything un-american. It's a simple statement about how an Orange Power ranger has not come to fruition. Where do you get this idea about them dissing anything? It's a reasonable discussion about something that they must be truly fans of since they did a lot of reasearch.
Um, at 1:11 that's DekaSwan. Gekichopper has orange accents, but he is widely considered just a white ranger (even on the wikipedia chart he is listen under "white" rather than "other"). As for Go-on Gold, he is considered a gold ranger (as clearly indicated by his name), despite the fact that Carrigator is orange. There have been other examples of orange mechas without the existence of orange rangers, like the Kabuto Origami from Shinkenger.
@RantsNReviews Gekichopper is primarily White with a Black Belt around his waist [he is supposed to be a Karate practicioner after all] the only touch of Orange along the edges of the Black accents of his suit.
Carrigator/Croc Carrier doesn't have a pilot. Its usually piloted by Go-On Black/Ranger Black. Gold Ranger pilots a rooster zord.
Battle Japan is suppost to be captain america. Sentai would have ended after 2 seasons but toei was working on a Spin off to Captain Amerca with marvel but that was cancels so they repacaged it as the 3rd Sentai
You're missing the point of the video. The main focus is about the lack of a true Orange ranger. Stop being such a fanboy over the Captain Japan thing and listen to what they have to say.
I don't see where you're getting this information. From what I understand, the "Sentai" series began to develop into the franchise that it is today with the release of Battle Fever J, so saying that it would have ended without the collapse of an entirely separate and unrelated collaboration with Marvel doesn't seem plausible. It is generally believed that Battle Japan is inspired by Captain America, and that the whole season was inspired by Toei's Spider-Man series.
@MightyMorphinAbridge but power rangers had no brown ranger, and sentai only had one incarnation of a brown ranger. that being said, shinkenbrown was more akin to the non-dream spd orange ranger then anything even somewhat resembling a ranger costume. and I was looking forward to seeing bulk dawn the "brown samurai ranger" costume in america, but saban skipped over that episode.
The Kat Ranger/Deka Swan are listed as unofficial Orange Rangers. BUT! Though Crimson Thunder Ranger/Kabuto Raijer are crimson/maroon, they are still listed as Red Rangers because they are merely darker shades of Red. Same goes for the Quantum Ranger/Time Fire. Though he is a Sixth Ranger, he is still listed as a Red Ranger. So its quite possible that they may latter consider making Kat the Orange ranger.
True... but one could argue that Battle Japan went a step further than "esque" and became a knock-off that practically mocked the original character. Plus, the colab still doesn't answer for the Miss America concept, since Wonder Woman belongs to DC, not Marvel.
I think I've got an idea on this one. Miss America could have been a reference to the character of Ms. Marvel, who had just appeared as an official Marvel hero about two years prior to Battle Fever J. Ms. Marvel was a member of the US Air Force prior to being a hero and both Miss Americas were FBI agents. Plus, to me at least, Miss America kinda characterizes Ms. Marvel with the feminie jumpsuit and the helmet's blonde hair.
I too had a Ms. Marvel theory while making the video, but after searching through several websites I realized that the general consensus among the fans was that Miss America was more comparable to Wonder Woman. Of course, right after finishing the video I discovered another theory that she is literally a rehash of Marvel's Golden Age "Miss America" character, so... Who really knows?
I have seen most of the Power rangers series in my childhood and what you guys are referencing of there not being a legit representation of an Orange ranger is pretty solid. I know the heads of American version of the super sentai, Power rangers, like to put their own flair on their version, but sometimes flair and poor depiction of a practical concept regardless of initial character development shouldn't warrant a complete toss into oblivion but rather it should do is breed new creative ideas.
A good video. A very legitimate point. The slideshow added some extra comedy. Loved the part with the ajshim yelling "This is bullshit". Yeah I know your ranting scream when I hear it.
