Evander Holyfield - Lennox cleverly waited until Holyfield was 37 years old to finally muster up the courage to fight him. Holyfield had already once retired with a congenital heart defect and looked a shadow of his late 90's-Early 90's prime. After Holyfield winning a controversial decision against Vaughn Bean in 1998, Lennox Lewis still needed a favour off the judges despite Holyfield being washed up
Oliver McCall - Oliver was 29 years old and stopped Lennox easily in the 2nd round. However in 1996 he fell into Crack Cocaine-Alcohol Problems. He had 3 drug related arrests and was under house arrest / drug rehab since December 15th 1996. Coward Lennox Lewis decided it was now "safe" to face Oliver McCall who would surely have knocked him out easily again if he was not in the throes of drug addiction
Ray Mercer - 1996 - Mercer was 35. So poor was his record, he hadn't won a fight for 3 yrs, a controversial SD against Jesse Ferguson in 1993. He was also outclassed by a 43 yo Larry Holmes in 1991. Mercer dominated and was clearly robbed. Naturally Mercer wanted a rematch offering to donate his all his $10m purse to Charity (Project Pride-Newark). Amazingly the Vulture Lennox Lewis refused!
@JoeCalzagheTheCoward Your still talking shit on ALL the British boxing videos, how many years you being doing that now?? Grow the fuck up you little loser. I can imagine your tiny little dick in my head for some reason, fucking faggot :) xxx
@bazman85 Sports of the Times; Lewis's Legacy Is Taking a Beating
By DAVE ANDERSON
Published: June 23, 2003
Whenever boxing buffs measure Lewis against other heavyweight champions, those three names will sabotage his stature. When the best heavyweights of the past lost, it usually was to worthy opponents.
But the best champions never got knocked out, as Lennox Lewis did, by somebody like Hasim Rahman or Oliver McCall. Or needed an asterisk to get by somebody like Vitali Klitschko.
Mike Tyson - June 2002- This is Lennox's biggest con. Tyson, destroyed by British club-fighters Danny Williams and Kevin McBride more decisively than Lennox Lewis who took 8 rounds to literally push an exhausted overweight 235lbs Mike Tyson to the canvas. This is not surprising, he'd boxed just 18 rounds in 6 yrs and was pictured 03/2002 in the National Enquirer smoking marijuana with hippies in Hawaii
Hasim Rahman - A fighter who didn't even take up boxing until the age of 20, making his pro debut at 22 in 1994 a guy with no punch resistance, not just been ko'd, but out of the ring in 1999 by Oleg Maskaev. Lennox got ko'd in 5
Hasim Rahman 2 - Lennox won in 4 in a 2001 rematch, so poor was Hasim Rahman that he didn't win another fight until a 2004 U/D "HBO Ballroom Boxing" match with 41yo Al Cole
Andrew Golota - A bum with no good wins on his resume.
Ray Mercer - A gift Majority Decision, Lennox could have fought him much earlier. But here, Mercer was 35. More shockingly, Ray Mercer hadn't actually beaten anyone since 1993.......The fight took place 3 years later in 1996!
David Tua - In 2000, Tua ballooned up to 250 lbs Looking like Jabba, That's when Lennox finally decided to fight him
@TheRAYZZOR Lennox "The Vulture" Lewis: career breakdown
Here are Lennox Lewis most difficult opponents
Evander Holyfield Lennox cleverly waited until Holyfield was 37 years old to finally muster up the courage to fight him. Holyfield had already once retired with a congenital heart defect and looked a shadow of his late 90s-Early 90s prime. After Holyfield winning a controversial decision against Vaughn Bean in 1998 Lennox Lewis realised this was the "perfect moment" to face Evander Holyfield
'McCall, who was accompanied to Las Vegas by a drug counselor and who attends meetings of both Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous.
The legal problems include a parole violation stemming from an arrest in Chicago for possession of crack cocaine and marijuana, and an arrest for vandalism, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest in December in Nashville, Tenn.
A true great champion. His only two losses he avenges with wins in rematches. No other fighter that retired with losses can say they beat who they lost to in rematches.
All of his best wins were against old diminished fighters, McBride and Danny Williams pummelled washed up Tyson.
He avoided a Vitali rematch and avoided Byrd.
He never fought a southpaw.
He used to fight safety first for the larger part of the time, just as much as present day Wlad, who at least had the heart to recover and fight like a man (Samuel Paeter 1)......Cowardly Sponge Cake Chin Lennox Lewis wasn't even capable of that.
LENNOX Lewis was reminded here last night of the harsh truth that he has waded to the top of the world through a pile of washed up drunks and junkies.
"Lionel Butler was on drugs, Oliver McCall was in and out of rehabilitation with drug and booze problems and Tommy Morrison went on drinking binges before the fight," said Steward.
It's the aftermath of a heavyweight shock and Simon Baker discuses the fall-out
But in terms of legacy, which is what Lewis now insists he is fighting for, would an Ali, a Holmes, a Tyson or even a Holyfield have ever been knocked out twice by single shots from top end journeymen no matter how ill prepared they were?
He hid in England until all the best HW fighters were past their primes, and that’s undeniable.
In England, he got knocked out by his only live opponent (Oliver McCall), exposing a fragile decanter chin.
In America, he fought good names but not good fighters.
First, a 35 year-old overweight cocaine addict named Tony Tucker. Tucker had been the HW champ, but was only a shadow of his former self at this point (14 pounds heavier than he weighed when he fought Tyson in 1987)
Ring selected Holyfield third best Heavyweight of all time behind only Muhammad Ali and Joe Louis. In 2002, Ring selected him the 22nd best fighter of the last 80 years, up from number 44 on a pre-Tyson win 1996 list of best fighters of the last 50 years
Beyond titles, Holyfield was recognized as Ring Magazine’s Fighter of the Year in 1987
and selection of both organizations in 1996 and 1997.
it pisses me off when everyone compares lewis to tyson there both good fighters for fuck shake so stop saying tyson is better and stop saying lewis is better
lewis vs holyfield first fight.. there was no need for a second fight because lewis closed both of evanders eyes.. without the head butts in the tyson saga whose to say how it would have ended
@jessimson Yeah he is one of the greatest of all time. The reason people don't say that is because he doesn't make waves with his personal life. He's not a loud mouth, he doesn't get arrested, he doesn't have a drug problem, he doesn't have 10 kids with different women (Only 3 with the same woman, same marriage.) He doesn't blow his money. He's smart and not a trouble maker but one of the best boxers ever.
@yoyo2ma You said better than I could. Right on target. The heavyweight division went to hell without a
hand basket after Lennox Lewis retired. And those jokers who say that Lewis would have lost to Vitali Klitschko if the fight wasn't stopped suffer from cerebral damage themselves. Lewis busted up Klitschko's face so badly, if the fight went on doctors would have had to piece his face together.
listen to this " undefeated undisputed heavyweight champion of the WORLD!!"
tyson will be spoken in the same sentences as ALI AND JOE LEWIS AND ALL THOSE I LISTED, theres a reason for it!! go watch the documentary he just put out.
Dont get me wrong Lewis was good sort of the same level as bowe, holyfield, trevor berbick them sorts ha
@berealandstaytrue Lewis is a class above Holyfield and Bowe and two or three above Berbick. People will remember Tyson more because he was such a controversial figure who for about three years was knocking out journeymen and he became the youngest heavyweight champ ever. Lewis on the other hand, was patient, quiet, mature, less exciting, and better than Tyson. Tyson would've been better off staying in the amateurs longer like Lewis. Cus didn't prepare him properly.
@bigmoney749 now i know im talking with someone who doesn't have much knowledge of boxing ie "cus didnt prepare him properly". took a kid from the hood made him the greatest heavyweight of the 80s and parts of the 90s, face it lewis doesn't get a mention amongst the greats like ali, foreman, j.lewis, etc tyson will always
@berealandstaytrue I'll repeat myself. Cus didn't prepare him properly. He was an old man who knew he only had a few years left and he took a young, unstable, impressionable kid from the hood who needed a father figure who would be there for a while and made him a champion before he was ready to handle everything that goes with it. He never disciplined Mike as a kid. He just wanted to make Mike champion as fast as possible and Mike wasn't ready mentally, not even close.
@bigmoney749 mike was the greatest thing to have come to boxing since ali and since tyson ther hasnt been a heavyweight as good as him. Boxing is about entertainment and that tyson is the best ever, dont be a hater just understand that sometimes you can be wrong, i kno its hard when lewis on paper did beat tyson but truth of the matter is lewis has no records hes just an champion not a legend.
@berealandstaytrue Being the youngest champion of all time does not make you the best. Lewis, in addition to beating Tyson, beat the other two greats of the era, Holyfield and Bowe in the olympics as well as every other good fighter of the 90s. Tyson is better known because he was more exciting and far more controversial. Lewis was better. Tyson only stayed in top form for four years. Lewis was in top form for all but three days of his entire career and he has a far more impressive resume.
@bigmoney749 Cus prepared him perfectly they had a goal to be the youngest heavy weight and the best ever in history that's why he didn't stay in amateurs long. And not only that he had beaten everyone in the amateurs as well Cus had a vision for Mike and he was brought up and fought everyone at the perfect time. If Cus didn't die along with many other things that happened in his life you wouldn't have just remembered him because he was controversial. He would have been one of the greatest ever.
@ShoulderRollJason Cus prepared him perfectly for a very short-sighted vision. Cus knew his days were numbered when he first met Mike and Mike was not ready to be heavyweight champion of the world at the age of 20. The best thing cus could've done for Mike in the long run would've been introducing him to Emmanuel Steward.
@bigmoney749 Measured Against All Time: Evander Holyfield
Ring selected Holyfield third best Heavyweight of all time behind only Muhammad Ali and Joe Louis. In 2002, Ring selected him the 22nd best fighter of the last 80 years, up from number 44 on a pre-Tyson win 1996 list of best fighters of the last 50 years.

@JoeCalzagheTheCoward Do your self a favour and shut up before i embarrass you, you obviously don't know what your on about and i can easily prove that you don't know what your chatting
@sexysport201 ARE WE SURE ABOUT THIS? LEWIS OUTHUSTLED AND OUTPUNCHED IN REMATCH
Byline: Doug Krikorian
Holyfield outhustled, outslugged and out-thought his plodding opponent and almost sent him to the canvas
Indeed, in a performance that defied his age and wealth, the 37-year-old multimillionaire Holyfield seemed to be the dominant fighter in the lively proceedings with his harder punches and more aggressive tactics.
Tyson said he shouldn't have been put in the ring with Holyfield so quickly after getting out of prison. Even at that point, Tyson had already stopped caring about boxing and only wanted to make money.
A year out of prison, 16 months out of prison, already with two belts to defend? I had no business with those belts. I was already done," Tyson said.
When it came to the subject of the two defeats to Evander Holyfield, Tyson said he shouldn't have been put in the ring with Holyfield.
"They put you, a writer, in prison, for three years, hands tied behind your back. Then they put you up against some hack, and you outwrite him, and they give you two awards. And then I put you up against a Nobel Prize winner? Absurd."
@bigmoney749 Tyson's immense popularity is the fact he was a spectacular two handed fighter who unified the division and knocked opponents out.I would put Holyfield and Bowe in the same elite class as Lewis although Lewis was possibly better than them. The real shame was that most of these fighters did not fight each other at their peaks.
Personally I think a peak Mike Tyson beats a peak Lennox Lewis based on the difficulty Lewis had with Ray Mercer and the KOs suffered v McCall and Rahman.
I thought Tyson 1986-92 would have beaten Holyfield. After the prison sentence Tyson was still as fast + powerful but unable to fight at a hard fast pace into the middle+ later rounds. The first fight with Holyfield was a very good one though.
Tysons peak years were between 20-26. It probably would have been longer but for the prison sentence. It would have been great if Holyfield, Bowe, Lewis, Tyson had fought each other 1992-1996...
@070911021302 what I meant is that a lot of Tyson fans say that he wasn't at his peak anymore when he was 25 and +, but you're still young at this age, both Holyfield and Lewis are older than him, his " prime" looks like it was the 80's for fans, but it's only because he fought gatekeepers and washed up fighters like holmes, but as soon as he faced a real challenge like Douglas, Holy and lewis, he wasn't able to shine, it's always easier to look great against mediocre fighters
@mouloudo I think a great fighter often has a maximum 10 years at the top.. After that he declines. Tysons ten year peak woulld have been 1986-96. However he lost three years due to prison. By the time he fought Holyfield in 1996, whilst still fast+powerful, the ability to fight for 6+rounds had dimished. Douglas simply caught him on an off night. Douglas never beat anybody else of note other than Tyson+ Tyson beat many other fighters who were better than Douglas eg Tucker, Ruddock,Bruno
@070911021302 Exactly. Tyson started getting serious and in shape again right after loosing to Douglas. His fights against Ruddock were great. He was back on track right before getting sent to prison. I think Lewis is an exception because he was a late bird. He improved with age. (He's a year older than Tyson.)
@mouloudo Bowe+ perhaps Mercer aside. I think Tyson fought the same level of fighter as did Holyfield+ Lewis. Berbick, Biggs, Spinks compared to Foreman, Macall, Moorer. They had several oppnents in common eg Holmes, Botha, Bruno, Stewart, Ruddock. Tyson looked much better in beating them than did Hoyfield+Lewis. Men like Holmes, Bruno+Stewart gave Holyfield+ Lewis real problems whereas Tyson just demolished them.
The real shame is Tyson never fought them during his peak years 1986-1992
he fought a 34 yr old overweight tyson, trever berbick was only known for gettin ko by tyson not beating an old ali, same with lewis he picked the fights he wanted, where da fuck was he when he was 20 - 28 fighting second rate boxers waiting for the good ones to get old and slow so he could use his boring jab and lanky self
tyson, dempsey, joe lewis, ali, foreman are the legends
@thewelshviper an athlete and fighter dont come of age at 35, they are furious and powerful enough at 21 to defeat anyone and they live a 12 year career at prime, he went jail didnt train for a few years and fell out of prime simple.
Thats why we remember tyson for being the best ever for that short lived career
@farrell360 hahahahahhahhhahahahaaa what ever atg list have u seen, u want the greatest il give u the greatest 1. Tyson 2. Ali 3. Dempsey 4. Joe Lewis 5. Foreman 6. Liston 7. Marciano 8. Holyfield lennox lewis probably makes the top 20 around the same level as frank bruno not a great champion
@berealandstaytrue LMAO, try looking up reznicks top 20 heavyweights, its a list made by averaging 30 classic boxing posters top 20 HW's. Tyson is a bum and you know Darnell.
"Lionel Butler was on drugs, Oliver McCall was in and out of rehabilitation with drug and booze problems and Tommy Morrison went on drinking binges before the fight," said Steward.
YES WE KNOW......BECAUSE THE HOMOSEXUAL SPONGE CAKE CHINNED COWARD LENNOX LEWIS WOULDN'T FIGHT THEM OTHERWISE!!
AND TO TAKE THE PISS EVEN MORE, THE COWARD WAITED UNTIL 2002 TO FIGHT ANOTHER WASHED UP DRUG ADDICT......MIKE TYSON! lol
LENNOX Lewis was reminded here last night of the harsh truth that he has waded to the top of the world through a pile of washed up drunks and junkies. Emanual Steward has decided it's time to make some plain facts clear to Lewis as they prepare for the next obstacle in his unfulfilled career tomorrow night.
sit the fuck down hasim rahman, tbh lenox was arrogant in the first fight and should never have lost to this guy the fact he was filming oceans eleven instead of training shows lennox wasnt commited to the first one
such a shit boxer didnt fight any decent boxers, got knocked out himself by 1 punch there has never been a great heavy weight that get ko with 1 punch!
@JoeCalzagheTheCoward your the bum u retard - posting the same bullshit over and over again on every lennox lewis/ joe calzaghe clip i see on youtube. Whats your problem? you got issues man. Are you just dumb? or are you a sad loser?
@JoeCalzagheTheCoward I believe Lewis was the only heavyweight to have rematches with ALL the boxers that beat him & win those rematches......not the action of a bum if you ask me....
@berealandstaytrue he never fought tyson? what you on about kid?! he knocked him out simple as. your the same as loads of people on youtube. happy to slate every boxer in the business. who do you actually rate as a good boxer then?
Wtf, retard!! are you still on about this. Seriously man every time I visit a LL or Calzaghe video for the last 3 years. You write some retarted shit. Your just mad because Calzaghe & Lewis spit-roasted your mum. Whatever man your a troll. Which means your a chronically unemployed, severely retarted virgin. Who lives in some council funded rat hole. Surrounded by your own shit, whilst your mum sucks old men's dicks. To pay for the internet connection. Kill yourself.
Emanual Steward has decided it's time to make some plain facts clear to Lewis as they prepare for the next obstacle in his unfulfilled career tomorrow night.
"Lionel Butler was on drugs, Oliver McCall was in and out of rehabilitation with drug and booze problems and Tommy Morrison went on drinking binges before the fight," said Steward.
"Henry Akinwande's trainer Don Turner didn't turn up until a few days before the fight because he was busy with Evander Holyfield.
klitchkos are much better then lewis thats wh he reitred he knew he would get defeated, the fight againts vitiali lewis was getting destroyed on the score cards...
The victory over Rahman marked the beginning of Tua's struggles with his weight. He ballooned up to 253 pounds when he defeated Obed Sullivan in 2000 by KO. Later that year, he weighed 245 pounds in the loss to Lennox Lewis. Tua was disappointing in the fight, with both fighters avoiding each other and Tua not throwing combinations.
Lewis shot his mouth off about what he was going to do to both Klitscko’s and then retired because his mum and Manny told him he was in for a beating. the trouble with Lewis was he had it all his own way for a long time and fought fighters like Tyson at the right time and when he didn’t get his own way, he got KO’d.
@JoeCalzagheTheCoward why do you still think like that? He fought dangerous guys Bowe and Holyfield stayed away from, Holyfield was fighting guys like Vaughn Bean. You need to stop being racist against non-amercian fighters, I know its hard because your society tells you to. when do you ever see Tyson trolls or Holyfield trolls? you don't because most other people are at least respectful. Lewis acheived a lot in the sport, why don't you troll a real bum like Sven Ottke?
LENNOX Lewis was reminded here last night of the harsh truth that he has waded to the top of the world through a pile of washed up drunks and junkies.Yet this time it has not come from any of the fast-talking American fight followers who dismiss Lewis as a Brit with no grit, but from his own trainer.
Best British boxer? He is arguably one of the best Heavyweights/Pound for Pound fighters EVER! Lennox Lewis is a great fighter and a classy gentleman.
GLASS-JAWED COWARD LENNOX LEWIS retired because he didn’t think MUHAMMAD ALI will fight him to prove his “greatness”. He could get a READY JOB as a COMEDIAN! EXPERTS agreed that the GLASS-JAWED COWARD was an EXCELLENT BOXER until his OPPONENT put on his BOXING GLOVE, made a FIST and proceeded to TOUCH HIS FACE with it! They are equally NOT SURPRISED that GLASS-JAWED COWARD LENNOX LEWIS decided to HIDE FROM AMERICA until HARD HITTING MIKE TYSON was SAFELY LOCKED AWAY for 6 YEARS in MARCH 1992!
ANNIE LENNOX retired because he didn’t think MUHAMMAD ALI will fight his BITCH-ASS to prove his “greatness”. Two BUMS called OLIVER McCALL and HASIM RAHMAN put him to SLEEP so quickly that he was having SWEET DREAMS! The COWARDS MOUTH also proved to be a permanent THORN IN HIS SIDE after he BITCHED OUT of a PROMISED REMATCH with VITALI KLITSCHKO, in fact it was always a MIRACLE OF GLOVE to see the COWARD ANNIE LENNOX in a BOXING RING with a boxer who were not TOTALLY WASHED UP!
LENNOX LEWIS retired because he didn’t think MUHAMMAD ALI will fight him to prove his “greatness”. The COWARD could get a READY JOB as a COMEDIAN! When he chose to HIDE from MIKE TYSON until he was SMOKING MARIJUANA and WASHED UP he was getting beaten to a PULP by a JOHN RUIZ ERA version of OLD MAN EVANDER HOLYFIELD who previously FAILED TO GET A BOXING LICENCE due to a HEART ATTACK!
LENNOX LEWIS retired because he didn’t think MUHAMMAD ALI will fight him to prove his “greatness”! MR LEWIS was also an accomplished ACTOR and narrowly lost out to EDDIE MURPHY to star in the movie COMING TO AMERICA. To EXPERTS this was NOT A SURPRISE because the GLASS JAWED COWARD stayed in the UK fighting BUMS and as his BOXING RECORD clearly states, he only decided on COMING TO AMERICA exactly 3 MONTHS after MIKE TYSON was JAILED for 6 YEARS by JUDGE PATRICIA J GIFFORD in INDIANAPOLIS!
LENNOX LEWIS retired because he didn’t think MUHAMMAD ALI will fight him to prove his “greatness”. He could get a READY JOB as a COMEDIAN! The COWARD even got BEATEN TO A PULP by a POST-HEART ATTACK, JOHN RUIZ ERA version of EVANDER HOLYFIELD who was NEARLY 40 at the time! The COWARD also WAITED until MIKE TYSON was SMOKING MORE MARIJUANA than CHEECH AND CHONG and instead of TRAINING for his UPCOMING FIGHT with LENNOX LEWIS, he SMOKED MARIJUANA on a BEACH in MAUI with HIPPIES instead!
@farrell360 Editor's note: This article appears in the May 8 issue of ESPN The Magazine.
"That's boxing, there's too many belts, this stuff happens." But the WBC belt belongs to Hasim Rahman, a journeyman who fought on the cable show "Ballroom Boxing" two summers ago.
@JoeCalzagheTheCoward lmao, Lennox Lewis top 10 ATG rated by 90% of fans of boxing scene and Eastside boxing, Evander Holyfield= So broke at the age of nearly 50 has to still fight LMAOOOOOO
In 1998, Ring selected Holyfield third best Heavyweight of all time behind only Muhammad Ali and Joe Louis. In 2002, Ring selected him the 22nd best fighter of the last 80 years, up from number 44 on a pre-Tyson win 1996 list of best fighters of the last 50 years.
Beyond titles, Holyfield was recognized as Ring Magazine’s Fighter of the Year in 1987, 1996 and 1997.
@JoeCalzagheTheCoward LOOOOOOOL Holyfield is a washed up bum, he lost 1 in 5 of his fights LMAOOOOOOOOOO hes a nobody, noone even likes that bum anymore you slave
@JoeCalzagheTheCoward Back in 2008, the boxing icon, who was at that time behind on child support payments AND facing foreclosure of his Atlanta mansion, explained that he wasn’t “broke” he was merely “not liquid”. In a statement made to the Atlanta/Journal, Holyfield explained:
“I do feel kind of sad because things have always been positive and now everybody wants to jump on me like I’m the worst person in the world and I went out and blew all my money.”
@farrell360LENNOX LEWIS retired because he didn’t think MUHAMMAD ALI will fight him to prove his “greatness”. He could get a READY JOB as a COMEDIAN! Despite being OLDER than MIKE TYSON he chose to HIDE FROM HIM, choosing a WASHED UP BRUNO and also fighting for a MEANINGLESS EUROPEAN TITLE against a BUM in the ALBERT HALL at 28YEARS OF AGE when MIKE TYSON was already WASHED UP! After getting DESTROYED by OLD MAN HOLYFIELD its no surprise the GLASS JAWED COWARD decided to RETIRE!
@farrell360Lennox Lewis is a well known blatant homosexual. The first champion, James J. Jefferies, the first black champion, Jack Johnson, the first south paw, Michael Moorer, the first Latino, John Ruiz, the first homosexual, Lennox Lewis, with his tea and crumpets.
Heh, you can't take a different night in Africa away from George Foreman's memory either.

A true great champion. His only two losses he avenges with wins in rematches. No other fighter that retired with losses can say they beat who they lost to in rematches.
shelleyinthecity 2 months ago 7
He was stopped twice by single punches.

FIGHT REVIEW (REMEMBERING LEWIS-RAHMAN I)
It's the aftermath of a heavyweight shock and Simon Baker discuses the fall-out
But in terms of legacy, which is what Lewis now insists he is fighting for, would an Ali, a Holmes, a Tyson or even a Holyfield have ever been knocked out twice by single shots from top end journeymen no matter how ill prepared they were?
The answer is, of course, no.
JoeCalzagheTheCoward 4 months ago
He hid in England until all the best HW fighters were past their primes, and that’s undeniable.
In England, he got knocked out by his only live opponent (Oliver McCall), exposing a fragile decanter chin.
In America, he fought good names but not good fighters.
First, a 35 year-old overweight cocaine addict named Tony Tucker. Tucker had been the HW champ, but was only a shadow of his former self at this point (14 pounds heavier than he weighed when he fought Tyson in 1987)

Beyond titles, Holyfield was recognized as Ring Magazine’s Fighter of the Year in 1987

He's smart and not a trouble maker but one of the best boxers ever.
yoyo2ma 3 months ago

Dont get me wrong Lewis was good sort of the same level as bowe, holyfield, trevor berbick them sorts ha
berealandstaytrue 5 months ago
@berealandstaytrue Lewis is a class above Holyfield and Bowe and two or three above Berbick. People will remember Tyson more because he was such a controversial figure who for about three years was knocking out journeymen and he became the youngest heavyweight champ ever. Lewis on the other hand, was patient, quiet, mature, less exciting, and better than Tyson. Tyson would've been better off staying in the amateurs longer like Lewis. Cus didn't prepare him properly.
bigmoney749 5 months ago
@bigmoney749 now i know im talking with someone who doesn't have much knowledge of boxing ie "cus didnt prepare him properly". took a kid from the hood made him the greatest heavyweight of the 80s and parts of the 90s, face it lewis doesn't get a mention amongst the greats like ali, foreman, j.lewis, etc tyson will always
berealandstaytrue 5 months ago
@berealandstaytrue I'll repeat myself. Cus didn't prepare him properly. He was an old man who knew he only had a few years left and he took a young, unstable, impressionable kid from the hood who needed a father figure who would be there for a while and made him a champion before he was ready to handle everything that goes with it. He never disciplined Mike as a kid. He just wanted to make Mike champion as fast as possible and Mike wasn't ready mentally, not even close.
bigmoney749 5 months ago
@bigmoney749 mike was the greatest thing to have come to boxing since ali and since tyson ther hasnt been a heavyweight as good as him. Boxing is about entertainment and that tyson is the best ever, dont be a hater just understand that sometimes you can be wrong, i kno its hard when lewis on paper did beat tyson but truth of the matter is lewis has no records hes just an champion not a legend.
berealandstaytrue 5 months ago
@berealandstaytrue Being the youngest champion of all time does not make you the best. Lewis, in addition to beating Tyson, beat the other two greats of the era, Holyfield and Bowe in the olympics as well as every other good fighter of the 90s. Tyson is better known because he was more exciting and far more controversial. Lewis was better. Tyson only stayed in top form for four years. Lewis was in top form for all but three days of his entire career and he has a far more impressive resume.

berealandstaytrue 5 months ago
@bigmoney749 Cus prepared him perfectly they had a goal to be the youngest heavy weight and the best ever in history that's why he didn't stay in amateurs long. And not only that he had beaten everyone in the amateurs as well Cus had a vision for Mike and he was brought up and fought everyone at the perfect time. If Cus didn't die along with many other things that happened in his life you wouldn't have just remembered him because he was controversial. He would have been one of the greatest ever.
ShoulderRollJason 5 months ago
@ShoulderRollJason Cus prepared him perfectly for a very short-sighted vision. Cus knew his days were numbered when he first met Mike and Mike was not ready to be heavyweight champion of the world at the age of 20. The best thing cus could've done for Mike in the long run would've been introducing him to Emmanuel Steward.

@farrell360Mike Tyson Unleashed: Talks Ali, Holyfield, More
Posted by: Mark Vester on 7/15/2010 .
Absurd."
JoeCalzagheTheCoward 4 months ago
@bigmoney749 Tyson's immense popularity is the fact he was a spectacular two handed fighter who unified the division and knocked opponents out.I would put Holyfield and Bowe in the same elite class as Lewis although Lewis was possibly better than them. The real shame was that most of these fighters did not fight each other at their peaks.
Personally I think a peak Mike Tyson beats a peak Lennox Lewis based on the difficulty Lewis had with Ray Mercer and the KOs suffered v McCall and Rahman.
070911021302 4 months ago
@070911021302 a 34 Holyfield beat Tyson twice so...
mouloudo 4 months ago
@mouloudo
Not sure what your point is here..
070911021302 4 months ago
@070911021302 what I meant is that a lot of Tyson fans say that he wasn't at his peak anymore when he was 25 and +, but you're still young at this age, both Holyfield and Lewis are older than him, his " prime" looks like it was the 80's for fans, but it's only because he fought gatekeepers and washed up fighters like holmes, but as soon as he faced a real challenge like Douglas, Holy and lewis, he wasn't able to shine, it's always easier to look great against mediocre fighters
mouloudo 4 months ago
@mouloudo I think a great fighter often has a maximum 10 years at the top.. After that he declines. Tysons ten year peak woulld have been 1986-96. However he lost three years due to prison. By the time he fought Holyfield in 1996, whilst still fast+powerful, the ability to fight for 6+rounds had dimished. Douglas simply caught him on an off night. Douglas never beat anybody else of note other than Tyson+ Tyson beat many other fighters who were better than Douglas eg Tucker, Ruddock,Bruno
070911021302 4 months ago
@070911021302 Exactly. Tyson started getting serious and in shape again right after loosing to Douglas. His fights against Ruddock were great. He was back on track right before getting sent to prison. I think Lewis is an exception because he was a late bird. He improved with age. (He's a year older than Tyson.)
yoyo2ma 3 months ago

@JoeCalzagheTheCoward You've Clearly got a unhealthy obsession with Lennox Lewis. Or you're just a bitter sad Tyson fan that can't let it go. LMFAO!

Lennox KO'd a journeymen fighter who KO'd him first. Yay.
keithjfro 6 months ago
@keithjfro Rahman was never a journeyman fighter, he was a world champ 2 years before this fight and stayed inside the top 10 for the next 6 years.

LOL

Measured Against All Time - Evander Holyfield
Posted by: Cliff Rold on 12/27/2008 .
