  • AAH! Such a shame I was looking forward to the nice piano solo bit in this song. It must be in the 12" version. Anyway great version for Top of the pops theme tune...

  • I love this song!!

  • this weeks non mover at 3 is brother beyond.

  • nice

  • From the 90s on the TOTP themes were just abysmal! Awful, no wonder the ratings dropped!

  • five people are cursed till the end of time because they did not like this plastic demon

  • its a telesound

the instrumental music says the story

  • You spell it 'Wizard' not 'Wizzard' it's not Roy frigging Wood.

  • a mixture of crap computers, german expressionisim and vector 3d graphics. How much more 80's could this be? Great to hear again though!

  • @jakamneziak They weren't 'crap' computers (as you call them) back in that time. The expressionism and vector graphics were cutting edge stuff and still hold their own today. Other than that you've made a fine analysis. /sarcasm:on

  • Does this video even have a plot?

  • Paul Hardcastle for me was the best Electro Musician of the 80s,

19 Rainforest, King Tut, D train the list goes on,

  • i never seen this before video.thanks for the up load.wizard 2 is unstopable remix jam

  • Its great to hear this theme from TOTP again .............cheers for posting top marks

  • Modern music today totally sucks! Bring back those synthesizers!

  • @Agui007 well thats not the problem...its all (soft) synths these days

    its how they use them

His music had a great influence on my musical carreer as a mixer & producer...

just like Herbie Hancock, Arthur Baker & Ben Liebrand etc...

still fresh & timeless not like the shit they call electro these days

  • brings back memories every time when the various radio one presenters on the show now its time for the top 40 breakers and ''heres the countdown from 40 to 20

  • this has got to be the best theme of Top of the Pop's its an awsome tune

  • i love the wizard part 2 killer track

  • Paul Hardcastle is a huge favourite of mine. Still love a lot of his stuff, 19 was best for me though, and Rainforest. I have three of his albums. But this tune does rock!

  • i still have the single Paul signed when this was released. He visited Sgt Peppers in Dagenham!

  • Paul Hardcastle is 'The Wizzard'

  • Oh Yea, the best TOTP theme tune of them all,

    I do miss the program,

  • TOP OF THE POPS!!!

  • Hey Stefan.. yeah could say kinda..- - same era.. - electro/ elecrotonic roots were startin..! (aah good ol days! hah). - check out Newcleus too if u like this stuff! ;-) tta

  • This took over from yellow pearl, and i think was the best.

  • Half expecting Simon Mayo to blurt in with 'and at number 1 this week..'

Damn I loved the synthesiser sound of the 80s, Paul Hardcastle is the nuts!

  • great music thanks

  • Quality song. All his music was great as it came from the best era in music ever the 80's. Great video thanks for posting brings back good times for me.

  • This was used on TOTP April 3rd 1986 and last used 26th Sept 1991 one of the all time best themes in my opininon!

  • those graphics were once top of the line

  • Course he's white.. - he 'was' - THE man.. great artist + producer. - and this was written for tot pops, yep..

  • I also think Paul Hardcastle and Harold Faltarmeyer are similar.

  • I love this track. Especially the vocals from Geoffrey 'Catweazle' Bayldon. He was the one who told me to 'Buy this rotating plastic demon' Lol. ;-)

  • OMG!! he's white!! LOL

  • My god first it was CCS doing "Whole Lotta Love" in the U.K. charts in 1970, then "Yellow Pearl" by Phil Lynott in 1982, and "The Wizard" by Paul Hardcastle in 1986 as all were theme tunes of Top of the Pops in the U.K. charts and excerpt with the Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" charting back at number 13 in 1997 and but there was a snazzy rock version of Yellow Pearl introduced in September 1984.

  • all of hardcastles songs are chart toppers to me

  • Yeah....he makes bomb azz music

  • I loved the wizard part 2 on the 12" that was sweet

  • This was the TOTP Theme from '86-'91. Thanks for posting a nice memory. Shame on Beeb for axing a great show!!!

  • Fantastic. I remember when he performed this on TOTP, and he was surrounded by a bank of synths.... Typical 80's.

  • Keep all the sublines simple.

  • The best Top Of The Pops theme in my opinion.

  • oh my god this music video kicks ass!

  • This is one of the old TOTP's theme tune.

  • I HAD TOTALLY FORGOTTEN HE DID THIS

  • Yeah, me too. This was the theme when I was I kid. I remember it well. It's a shame they scrapped top of the pops. It used to be such a good show.

  • 1985 - 1991. Such good times.

They scrapped the show on my 20th birthday...July 30th, 2006. Thank God for YouTube users posting past performances from long ago.

And if anybody hasn't yet noticed, between 1:10 and 1:15 they sample Vincent Price's laugh from Michael Jackson's "Thriller."

  • yep another awsome top of the pops theme that I can rember when I was a kid

  • The past is better than the future!

  • I guess it depends on what you are willing to fight for your future and what you are willing to do/go through for it too.

  • yeah i agree with you!

    this artist highly advenced

  • old top of the pops brilliant

  • wish i could take the time back..........

  • Ace.

  • A great modern jazz artist, though too many know only his chart-toppers.

  • Paul Hardcastle is *AWESOME!* I've love to skate to more of his music! :D
