Very Horrible production on this song. I think they ought not to have strayed from their great classic sound. They still sing well and look good, but the horrible blipping techno crap sound ruins it totally. It's a shame.

I still like this song a good 2 years later! Even most of their 2006 album Drama! They sound very good on this high energy dance song. The rhythms match perfectly with their voices! Their willingness to record with today's hottest dance producers and update their sound works to their advantage.

I have now confirmed their ages. Keren (the redhead) was 46 when this video was filmed; Sara, the blonde, was 45. By the way, Keren is married to Andrew Ridgely, the other half of Wham! The other former original member of Banarama is Siobhan Fahey, and she is married to Dave Stewart of Eurythmics.

Thanks for the info. I was obsessed with them as a kid. Cruel Summer is a video I still love watching now. I always got their names messed up. I thought it was possible that Keren was Siobhan. I remember her famous for being the first to leave the group.

Andrew Ridgely and the Eurythmics guy? Seriously their kids gotta be part of the 80's comeback revolution with those kind of genes. Nothing beats the originality of 80's pop music.

YES!!! Cruel Summer is one of my Top Ten favorite songs of all time. No other song sounds like it. It's so breezy and cool and sleek and the video captures the sense of fun that characterizes Bananarama. By the way, I highly recommend the album that "Move in My Direction" comes from. It's really strong--their best in years. And you're right, Siobhan and Keren's kids should bring back the New Wave sound in a new group!
