@elvisdustin,i agree. My fav drummer is tommy aldridge.i have a random tbone question.way back in80 or early 80s,did he have a lil p/u truck that read "crue it"license plate?
I remember when he said that he saw KISS & watched Peter Criss & his set lift into the rafters & knew one day he could do that & ad more to it. I think he did a good job at doing just that!!
And to think Tommy will top himself off again with a 360 degree spinning rollercoaster for this summers tour!!! Ahhhh Are you prepared to lose your minds people?!
Tommy Lee sucks? Wow this is news to me since he's been touring the world with one of the biggest rock bands on the planet selling over 80 million records.
whatever, u weak ass haters. 'he sucks, this sucks, u suck, everything sucks', u just hate for the sake of hating. nice life. im not a fan of 80's buttrock, but an rotating kit is impressive, credit where credits due, thanks for the vid.
for everyone dissing this video, you have to understand it was over 20 years ago, and at the time who else had spinning drum kits?? exactly! and do you think YOU could do this solo after all the jack he drank??? if you think you can then do it bitch i wanna see it!!
@imapunkfromCA No you are the idiot Fuck you who do you think you are he has sold um MILLIONS OF records and you are a fat fuck who lives with your mom.. i wonder who is better..
meh, not bad, but definitely not that impressive. Nothing that interesting or creative. And that technically difficult. I know plenty of drummers and know of plenty of drummers who could recreate the same shit. Likewise, he doesn't seem to have much stamina. He solos for about 30 seconds then stops....
This is the concert where they downed the jack on stage, surprised he didnt "spew" on the first few rows...lol. Oh to everyone dissing this, this was the SHIT in the 80's...I mean come on this is high tech for 20 years ago! \m/
Tommy Lee, alongside Steven Adler of Guns N' Roses, is my favourite drummer of all time. Looks and acts like he has a real passion for what he does rather than just going through the motions of being a drummer.
good show but dude! he's no niel peart ! and I grew up on motley crue. I use to think he (tommy)was awesome. now 30 years later & looking back., there were way more deserving drummers out there.
Well, I'd have to say that looks fun...WHAT DO YOU THINK TACOMA???????????! The real question was...what kinda of weed did you need to have that dream?
@drummerdudex017 haha its kinda hard not to be basic when your strapped into a chair and spinning in circles in a cage while saying the f word a billion times hahahaha
@drummerdudex017@drummerdudex017 you really have to start your comment with:" solid playing. kind of basic, etc.... REALLY MAN !!! we are talking about Tommy Fuckin Lee, man !!!

@NocturnalCucumber I know !!! My doctor freaked out too !!! when he saw that, right away He prescribed me a higher dose of.... "Rock'n Roll" man !!! Hasta la Vista NC
wats all this crap about having heart and stuff, thats great but you still sound like crap if u can't play....like tommy lee, sorry but this solo sucks balls...
Heart, feel, emotion and technic goes hand in hand when it comes to music. You can't have one without the other, it would sound shit either way. Tommy Lee has his feel, John Bohham has his feel, Tony Royster Jr has his feel. They're all great drummers in their own way. You understand that if you understand music. You've gotta see that a musician is good even if you don't like that particular kind of music. If you can't see/hear that, well I'm sorry. You probably don't have ear for it.
I don't understand why shitty drummers like him are the most famous ones, he's not creative, he plays monotonous music, and still people enjoy it.
I mean take a guy like Marcel Bach, he's probably one of the the best drummer I've seen on youtube, and he has less that 10,00 views. Ijust don't get it.
its about luck and beeing at the right place at the right time...and that marcel bach guy doesn't have tommy lee's looks and he plays music that most people don't understand
You guys can say what you want about Niel Pert or tommy Lee.....just as long as you all know that Danny Carrey is better than both of them put together
dude im not gonna argue with you anymore. we both have our own opinions. all i wanna know is if tommy is such a bad drummer why are you watching his video?
his solos are nothing special but he is a damn good drummer regardless of what you faggit ass neil peart fans think. unlike tommy, neil just plays solos tommy actually plays music.
Neil plays lightyears around Tommyb Lee. It's not even funny how far apart in skill they are. You know what else isn't funny? That you would be dumb enough to put down a master drummer like that.
fuck you asshole. not only is neil 20 times uglier then tommy, he's 20 times more of a boring drummer too. tommy is a drummer who entertains and neil is a drummer who plays a longer drum solo then an actul rush set list. when neil comes on for a drum solo thats when people go to the beer lines and to the pissers. tommys will ALWAYS be a much muuuuuch better show man then neil.
Ok, let me see. Sooo because Tommy Lee is good-looking, he's a better drummer? So because people might stick around around for his drum solos he's a better drummer? I think you hit the nail on the head with your last statement. Tommy Lee is a SHOWMAN. Not a good drummer. Have you even heard of anything else from Neil Peart besides his solo? I'll answer that: No. Do you even know what time signature he plays in in the song YYZ? No. Do you even know what time signature is? No.
whats up ppl sayin that tommy lee isnt a good drumer? tommy lee is considered 1 of the best drummers of all time. Tommy lee's solo's are what got motley crue big. and tommy lee's solo's were the best part of the fuckin show
WHO SAYS TOMMY LEE IS ONE OF THE BEST OF ALL TIME? WHO? Where did you hear this from? I could name 200 drummers better than him, just off the top of my head. Like sonicbetrayal says, Danny Carey is the best of all time, check out the band Tool if you need proof.
ever sinse fuckin motley crue dumbshit.. you or anybody uve ever met couldnt compete with tommy lee. he wouldnt have even been in a fuckin band or one of the best heavy metal bands of all time for that matter... ur just jealos cuz tommy lee is gettin laid but 20 different girls a night while u jerk it to utube vids douche
WHO???? Who says he is the best? And I could drum circles around him. And I've met Danny carey and he can play lightyears better than Tommy Lee. I would like to know who says that Tommy Lee is one of the best of all time.
I didnt say he was "the" best. I said hes one of the best. of course there are better drummers. tommy lee was even voted in the top 40 best drummers of all time. Hs drum solo's are what got Motley Crue famous. Its just funny when people talk shit about him when he CREATED one of the best heavy metal bands of our time. why talk shit about someone whos probaly getting his dick sucked by 3 super models right now while ur jackin off to youtube videos
Oh, ok YOU say he's the best. Who the fuck are you to say that? Do you have any idea how many great drummers there are and have been throughout history? Where is this list? Because I'm telling you he is not even close to the best. Motley Crue is a huge band because they make catchy songs, but that doesn't mean they are the best, or even close. And what the hell is your obsession with Tommy Lee's sex life? Do you have all his sex tapes on DVD or something?
its voted from rolling stones magazine.. no matter what you say. tommy lee will always be remembered as a legend and one of the best drummers of all time. no other drummer doing solo's has performed in record setting crowds as tommy lee has. whats your obsession with hating on a great drummer? Just sayin while u hate all day on tommy lee hes gettin laid and gettn paid . u think he gives a shit about what u think of him?
Rolling Stone has never made a greatest drummers list. Tommy Lee will be remembered for a lot of things, but not as one of the greatest drummers of all time. I have no personal problem with him, my problem is with ignorant people like you who don't know about all the great drummers out there. You want a real drum solo? Listen to Moby Dick, listen to Toad by Cream, listen to Neil Peart's R-30 solo. There is nothing special about this solo. Nothing complicated, just a bunch of simple beats.
listen here, abuch of people like u who tlk crap bout tommy lee have no idea y he is so famous.he made playin drums sound awsome without using a bunch of differ drums.he will be know forever as a great drummer and you cant do anything bout it
The only people who think Tommy Lee is a great drummer are diehard Motley Crue fans. Nobody else on earth would say he is a great drummer. You really think he was the first to make drums sounds awesome? Ever heard of Keith Moon, aka Moon the Loon? He revolutionized drumming, because before him drummers just kept the beat, and he went fucking ape shit on them.
tommy isnt near the best.. he is a good drummer and a great showman, i think he has alot more technical ability than he shows.. everyone knows hes not the best but i know he is still better than alot of drummers
Anybody can learn to play like Tommy Lee. Not everybody can learn to play like Neil Peart, or Danny Carey, or Gavin Harrison, or Keith Moon, or John Bonham. That's my point. It's not talent if anybody can do it.
I'm not pretentious, I just know great drumming when I hear it. I'd rather look up to great drummers than mediocre ones. If you aspire to drum like this, you won't get far. If you aspire to drum like Danny Carey or Gavin Harrison, the sky is the limit.
I don't "aspire" to play like Tommy Lee; my main genres are teach death and fusion. However, the fact that you talk down on a more than competent drummer of a genre you don't like (I'm assuming; Lee is about as good as rock drummers get in that style) while providing examples of equally overrated drummers you happen to like is laughable.
I'd tell you that Gavin Harrison is beastly and shouldn't be even mentioned in the same sentence as Keith Moon or Danny Carey, but that's just MY opinion.
Haha I'll admit he's competent. Anybody in a successful band is competent. But he's not great. That's what I was arguing.
And if you think Keith Moon was overrated you need to listen to Young Man Blues and The Ox and I Can See For Miles and Amazing Journey and Magic Bus. And if you think Danny Carey is overrated you need to listen to Ticks and Leeches and Merkaba and Rosetta Stoned and Intension and The Grudge and Right In Two. There are many overrated drummers, but not those.
Thanks for running right past the substance in my post to reply with the cliched, "You need to listen to..."
They are both consistently called the best drummer of some category or another by close-minded morons such as yourself, and therefore are EXTREMELY overrated. Bonham and Peart get less flack from me because they can back up their praise way better, but the case remains the same: they're good drummers that YOU like, but not even close to the percussive gods you'd make them out to be.
By the way, I NEVER said they were the best at anything. I don't believe in calling people "the best" because music is art, therefore it is subjective. So get off your fucking high horse and wipe the paranoia off your shoulders because all I said was that they were talented. You cannot deny that.
You didn't have to; people just like yourself say it all the time. I also find it ironic that you tell ME to get off my high horse when you're the one spouting your pretentious opinion across the internet.
It's completely subjective, right? So I can deny their "talent," all I want; in the objective ways of measuring ability, half of them are no better than Lee.
Also: learn to use proper punctuation if you're going to attempt to sound educated, please.
I didn't have to? What, you can read my mind? Wow, and you call me narrow-minded. You're an asshole, you know that? Look, we've both been spouting our pretentious opinions, you're no saint either. But I'm curious as to how you would objectively measure ability.
And don't comment on my grammar, there's nothing wrong with it.
I'm not being narrow-minded, I'm making assumptions. You need to learn definitions (FYI, you use no punctuation where commas are needed, and commas where semi-colons are needed; I'd say that's plenty wrong right there).
Yes, I am an asshole. I'm also right.
You can measure it in technical ability, both physically (speed, control, endurance, power) and mentally (independence, hand/foot coordination, knowledge various music); everything else is just personal taste.
Right, because making assumptions doesn't make you narrow-minded. Assumptions lead to stereotyping, which is what you did to me, and that's narrow-minded.
At least you admit it.
You gonna tell me Danny Carey has no speed, control, endurance, or power? Ever listened to Ticks and Leeches? Independence? Ever listened to the Rosetta Stoned polyrhythm? Or the one in Lateralus, Reflection, or Eulogy? Knowledge of various music? You ever hear him play Tabla?
Stereotypes are based on assumptions. I had it right.
You are the first person I've ever heard say Danny Carey isn't a talented drummer. you must know something everybody else doesn't.
I didn't need a semicolon there. You only need to put a comma there to indicate a pause. It is one clause. The same as saying, "See, I told you," or "Man, I'm tired."
Based on assumptions, yes, but more assumptions are caused by stereotypes than vice-versa. For example, "Black people are thieves," is a a stereotype. "Tyrell stole my TV," is an assumption based upon that stereotype. Though I think this particular tangent is pointless, TBH.
Semicolons aren't used to indicate pauses, they join independent clauses without the use of a coordinating conjunction. "We've both been..." and, "You're no saint..." would be the independent clauses in this case.
Haha I know my grammar, kid. The names of songs should italicized, but there is no application for it, so I just leave them be. And name one instance in which I should have used a semi-colon instead of a comma. You ever read any books by Cormac McCarthy? He's my favorite author. And he never uses semi-colons, only commas and periods. He says semi-colons are ugly. I think so, too.
Ooh, you can reference a few things you learned in high school english! GO YOU!
"Look, we've both been spouting our pretentious opinions," needed either a semi-colon after "opinion" or a conjunction. Besides that, I'm not going to go over your post history and correct it for you. And I don't give a fuck about shitty authors who don't know how to use proper punctuation.
High School English? I'm an English Major, with a concentration in Creative Writing. My professors are published authors, and I've had stories published in the University Guild in two consecutive years. I know my grammar, and I know how to bend the rules to my will when I write. Like this. To get a point across. To emphasize. Without the use of ugly little semicolons. Albeit this is a little exaggerated now. But it's just to piss you off. And so are this. Now that's bad grammar.
I'm a physics major considering a double in English, so I think you have me beat there, although "creative writing" wouldn't exactly be the paragon of perfect grammar.
And yeah, that did you from bending rules to plain bad grammar pretty quickly.
Physics is a major hobby of mine. Astronomy and Cosmology, in particular. I couldn't answer a basic equation if you asked me, but I understand the theory of it pretty well.
Ah, that explains a lot. I tend to have more respect for drummers with great feel, and a great natural knack for syncopation, than a more outwardly technical drummer. I guess because I've played for ten years but have never taken a lesson in my life, and have had to rely upon my natural knack for rhythm.
And Cormac McCarthy's no shitty author. Don't read much, do you? He's a Pulitzer Prize-winning writer. His book, No Country For Old Men, was made into a film, which won the Academy Award for "Best Picture." His book, All The Pretty Horses, won The National Book of The Year prize. And his latest book, The Road, won The Pulitzer Prize. I'd say he's a smart choice to take my literary cues from.
Don't read sarcasm much, do you? I thought No Country and The Road were fantastic. Being a fantastic author doesn't make you a great technical author, however, which leads back to what were arguing with drumming: I don't think Danny Carey is a great technical drummer. Being a former corps drummer, I have high standards for that kind of thing.
It's funny, I started trolling this vid for kicks a few days ago, but I think I actually enjoyed talking to you.
Yeah, I did lose my cool for a bit, because of all the name-calling and all. I have a short temper. I guess that's why I love playing drums. As a way to vent. But it's always nice to talk to someone who knows what they're talking about.
Let's just go back to the drum solos if you want. Most people don't know how to drum, so naturally they can't appreciate complex drum solos like Neil Peart's. They just like to bob their head, without caring about how complicated the playing might be. And they like to hear Tommy Lee bang wildly on the drums and take a break and talk about his dream and say fuck a lot.
other drummers? like you maybe? I don't know.. I think he is a good drummer... he isn't the best, but he isn't the baddest as you said... listen to his music with more attenction, maybe you'll change idea xD
Tommy lee is the baddest drummer I yet to see. As long as I've been playing drums, I've looked up to him. Can't no-one ever even come close to this guy...and best of all...He got pamela anderson...lol...he's a bad mutha fukka..lol

I mean take a guy like Marcel Bach, he's probably one of the the best drummer I've seen on youtube, and he has less that 10,00 views. Ijust don't get it.
okpablomustard 2 years ago
he's better than u and will ever be

Dude, you can barely spell, your name is skate2god. It only goes to show that people who listen to Tommy Lee are a bunch of non-intellectual beings.

its about luck and beeing at the right place at the right time...and that marcel bach guy doesn't have tommy lee's looks and he plays music that most people don't understand

Neil Peart is the best hands down. Not many drummers also write music
ALT980 2 years ago
Levon Helm of The Band, wrote music lyrics did studio work and sang, Neil Peart is great dont get me wrong.
sonicbetrayal 2 years ago
You guys can say what you want about Niel Pert or tommy Lee.....just as long as you all know that Danny Carrey is better than both of them put together
sonicbetrayal 2 years ago
Fuck yeah Danny Carey, he is my favorite drummer. And the best friggin thing to ever hold drumsticks.
PoeticJustice05 2 years ago
dude im not gonna argue with you anymore. we both have our own opinions. all i wanna know is if tommy is such a bad drummer why are you watching his video?
ryannftw 2 years ago
Because I thought it might prove me wrong, but it didn't.
PoeticJustice05 2 years ago
pretty good.
TBforlife1 2 years ago
his solos are nothing special but he is a damn good drummer regardless of what you faggit ass neil peart fans think. unlike tommy, neil just plays solos tommy actually plays music.
ryannftw 2 years ago 2
very tru.
and besides tommy is the coolest muthafucka ever!
jloganmc 2 years ago
Neil plays lightyears around Tommyb Lee. It's not even funny how far apart in skill they are. You know what else isn't funny? That you would be dumb enough to put down a master drummer like that.
PoeticJustice05 2 years ago
fuck you asshole. not only is neil 20 times uglier then tommy, he's 20 times more of a boring drummer too. tommy is a drummer who entertains and neil is a drummer who plays a longer drum solo then an actul rush set list. when neil comes on for a drum solo thats when people go to the beer lines and to the pissers. tommys will ALWAYS be a much muuuuuch better show man then neil.
ryannftw 2 years ago
Ok, let me see. Sooo because Tommy Lee is good-looking, he's a better drummer? So because people might stick around around for his drum solos he's a better drummer? I think you hit the nail on the head with your last statement. Tommy Lee is a SHOWMAN. Not a good drummer. Have you even heard of anything else from Neil Peart besides his solo? I'll answer that: No. Do you even know what time signature he plays in in the song YYZ? No. Do you even know what time signature is? No.
PoeticJustice05 2 years ago
whats up ppl sayin that tommy lee isnt a good drumer? tommy lee is considered 1 of the best drummers of all time. Tommy lee's solo's are what got motley crue big. and tommy lee's solo's were the best part of the fuckin show
666jewkid 2 years ago
WHO SAYS TOMMY LEE IS ONE OF THE BEST OF ALL TIME? WHO? Where did you hear this from? I could name 200 drummers better than him, just off the top of my head. Like sonicbetrayal says, Danny Carey is the best of all time, check out the band Tool if you need proof.
PoeticJustice05 2 years ago
ever sinse fuckin motley crue dumbshit.. you or anybody uve ever met couldnt compete with tommy lee. he wouldnt have even been in a fuckin band or one of the best heavy metal bands of all time for that matter... ur just jealos cuz tommy lee is gettin laid but 20 different girls a night while u jerk it to utube vids douche
666jewkid 2 years ago
WHO???? Who says he is the best? And I could drum circles around him. And I've met Danny carey and he can play lightyears better than Tommy Lee. I would like to know who says that Tommy Lee is one of the best of all time.
PoeticJustice05 2 years ago
I didnt say he was "the" best. I said hes one of the best. of course there are better drummers. tommy lee was even voted in the top 40 best drummers of all time. Hs drum solo's are what got Motley Crue famous. Its just funny when people talk shit about him when he CREATED one of the best heavy metal bands of our time. why talk shit about someone whos probaly getting his dick sucked by 3 super models right now while ur jackin off to youtube videos
666jewkid 2 years ago
Oh, ok YOU say he's the best. Who the fuck are you to say that? Do you have any idea how many great drummers there are and have been throughout history? Where is this list? Because I'm telling you he is not even close to the best. Motley Crue is a huge band because they make catchy songs, but that doesn't mean they are the best, or even close. And what the hell is your obsession with Tommy Lee's sex life? Do you have all his sex tapes on DVD or something?
PoeticJustice05 2 years ago
its voted from rolling stones magazine.. no matter what you say. tommy lee will always be remembered as a legend and one of the best drummers of all time. no other drummer doing solo's has performed in record setting crowds as tommy lee has. whats your obsession with hating on a great drummer? Just sayin while u hate all day on tommy lee hes gettin laid and gettn paid . u think he gives a shit about what u think of him?
666jewkid 2 years ago
Rolling Stone has never made a greatest drummers list. Tommy Lee will be remembered for a lot of things, but not as one of the greatest drummers of all time. I have no personal problem with him, my problem is with ignorant people like you who don't know about all the great drummers out there. You want a real drum solo? Listen to Moby Dick, listen to Toad by Cream, listen to Neil Peart's R-30 solo. There is nothing special about this solo. Nothing complicated, just a bunch of simple beats.
PoeticJustice05 2 years ago
@PoeticJustice05
listen here, abuch of people like u who tlk crap bout tommy lee have no idea y he is so famous.he made playin drums sound awsome without using a bunch of differ drums.he will be know forever as a great drummer and you cant do anything bout it
gobuckeyes13 2 years ago
The only people who think Tommy Lee is a great drummer are diehard Motley Crue fans. Nobody else on earth would say he is a great drummer. You really think he was the first to make drums sounds awesome? Ever heard of Keith Moon, aka Moon the Loon? He revolutionized drumming, because before him drummers just kept the beat, and he went fucking ape shit on them.
PoeticJustice05 2 years ago

hahah your soo right!

tommy isnt near the best.. he is a good drummer and a great showman, i think he has alot more technical ability than he shows.. everyone knows hes not the best but i know he is still better than alot of drummers
eloc812 2 years ago
Anybody can learn to play like Tommy Lee. Not everybody can learn to play like Neil Peart, or Danny Carey, or Gavin Harrison, or Keith Moon, or John Bonham. That's my point. It's not talent if anybody can do it.
PoeticJustice05 2 years ago
Typical "good drummer list." STFU, you pretentious twat.
Shotty09 2 years ago
I'm not pretentious, I just know great drumming when I hear it. I'd rather look up to great drummers than mediocre ones. If you aspire to drum like this, you won't get far. If you aspire to drum like Danny Carey or Gavin Harrison, the sky is the limit.
PoeticJustice05 2 years ago
I don't "aspire" to play like Tommy Lee; my main genres are teach death and fusion. However, the fact that you talk down on a more than competent drummer of a genre you don't like (I'm assuming; Lee is about as good as rock drummers get in that style) while providing examples of equally overrated drummers you happen to like is laughable.
I'd tell you that Gavin Harrison is beastly and shouldn't be even mentioned in the same sentence as Keith Moon or Danny Carey, but that's just MY opinion.
Shotty09 2 years ago
Haha I'll admit he's competent. Anybody in a successful band is competent. But he's not great. That's what I was arguing.
And if you think Keith Moon was overrated you need to listen to Young Man Blues and The Ox and I Can See For Miles and Amazing Journey and Magic Bus. And if you think Danny Carey is overrated you need to listen to Ticks and Leeches and Merkaba and Rosetta Stoned and Intension and The Grudge and Right In Two. There are many overrated drummers, but not those.
PoeticJustice05 2 years ago
Thanks for running right past the substance in my post to reply with the cliched, "You need to listen to..."
They are both consistently called the best drummer of some category or another by close-minded morons such as yourself, and therefore are EXTREMELY overrated. Bonham and Peart get less flack from me because they can back up their praise way better, but the case remains the same: they're good drummers that YOU like, but not even close to the percussive gods you'd make them out to be.
Shotty09 2 years ago
Well godammit did you listen to them? What else do I have to say? The music speaks for itself. Listen to the damn songs.
PoeticJustice05 2 years ago
I've heard music from all of their bands, and I don't agree with you. Going to go cry now?
Shotty09 2 years ago
By the way, I NEVER said they were the best at anything. I don't believe in calling people "the best" because music is art, therefore it is subjective. So get off your fucking high horse and wipe the paranoia off your shoulders because all I said was that they were talented. You cannot deny that.
PoeticJustice05 2 years ago
You didn't have to; people just like yourself say it all the time. I also find it ironic that you tell ME to get off my high horse when you're the one spouting your pretentious opinion across the internet.
It's completely subjective, right? So I can deny their "talent," all I want; in the objective ways of measuring ability, half of them are no better than Lee.
Also: learn to use proper punctuation if you're going to attempt to sound educated, please.
Shotty09 2 years ago
I didn't have to? What, you can read my mind? Wow, and you call me narrow-minded. You're an asshole, you know that? Look, we've both been spouting our pretentious opinions, you're no saint either. But I'm curious as to how you would objectively measure ability.
And don't comment on my grammar, there's nothing wrong with it.
PoeticJustice05 2 years ago
I'm not being narrow-minded, I'm making assumptions. You need to learn definitions (FYI, you use no punctuation where commas are needed, and commas where semi-colons are needed; I'd say that's plenty wrong right there).
Yes, I am an asshole. I'm also right.
You can measure it in technical ability, both physically (speed, control, endurance, power) and mentally (independence, hand/foot coordination, knowledge various music); everything else is just personal taste.
Shotty09 2 years ago
Right, because making assumptions doesn't make you narrow-minded. Assumptions lead to stereotyping, which is what you did to me, and that's narrow-minded.
At least you admit it.
You gonna tell me Danny Carey has no speed, control, endurance, or power? Ever listened to Ticks and Leeches? Independence? Ever listened to the Rosetta Stoned polyrhythm? Or the one in Lateralus, Reflection, or Eulogy? Knowledge of various music? You ever hear him play Tabla?
PoeticJustice05 2 years ago
You're mixing up cause and effect. Stereotyping leads to assumptions, not the other way around. So no, you're wrong again.
Yes, I've seen a lot of Carey's stuff, and he's nothing special in any of those categories.
Shotty09 2 years ago
Stereotypes are based on assumptions. I had it right.
You are the first person I've ever heard say Danny Carey isn't a talented drummer. you must know something everybody else doesn't.
I didn't need a semicolon there. You only need to put a comma there to indicate a pause. It is one clause. The same as saying, "See, I told you," or "Man, I'm tired."
PoeticJustice05 2 years ago
Based on assumptions, yes, but more assumptions are caused by stereotypes than vice-versa. For example, "Black people are thieves," is a a stereotype. "Tyrell stole my TV," is an assumption based upon that stereotype. Though I think this particular tangent is pointless, TBH.
Semicolons aren't used to indicate pauses, they join independent clauses without the use of a coordinating conjunction. "We've both been..." and, "You're no saint..." would be the independent clauses in this case.
Shotty09 2 years ago
Haha I know my grammar, kid. The names of songs should italicized, but there is no application for it, so I just leave them be. And name one instance in which I should have used a semi-colon instead of a comma. You ever read any books by Cormac McCarthy? He's my favorite author. And he never uses semi-colons, only commas and periods. He says semi-colons are ugly. I think so, too.
PoeticJustice05 2 years ago
Ooh, you can reference a few things you learned in high school english! GO YOU!
"Look, we've both been spouting our pretentious opinions," needed either a semi-colon after "opinion" or a conjunction. Besides that, I'm not going to go over your post history and correct it for you. And I don't give a fuck about shitty authors who don't know how to use proper punctuation.
See that? I exercised subjective pretense!
Shotty09 2 years ago
High School English? I'm an English Major, with a concentration in Creative Writing. My professors are published authors, and I've had stories published in the University Guild in two consecutive years. I know my grammar, and I know how to bend the rules to my will when I write. Like this. To get a point across. To emphasize. Without the use of ugly little semicolons. Albeit this is a little exaggerated now. But it's just to piss you off. And so are this. Now that's bad grammar.
PoeticJustice05 2 years ago
I'm a physics major considering a double in English, so I think you have me beat there, although "creative writing" wouldn't exactly be the paragon of perfect grammar.
And yeah, that did you from bending rules to plain bad grammar pretty quickly.
Shotty09 2 years ago
Physics is a major hobby of mine. Astronomy and Cosmology, in particular. I couldn't answer a basic equation if you asked me, but I understand the theory of it pretty well.
Ah, that explains a lot. I tend to have more respect for drummers with great feel, and a great natural knack for syncopation, than a more outwardly technical drummer. I guess because I've played for ten years but have never taken a lesson in my life, and have had to rely upon my natural knack for rhythm.
PoeticJustice05 2 years ago
I actually don't like painfully technical drummers; I just have high standards for them. :D
Shotty09 2 years ago
And Cormac McCarthy's no shitty author. Don't read much, do you? He's a Pulitzer Prize-winning writer. His book, No Country For Old Men, was made into a film, which won the Academy Award for "Best Picture." His book, All The Pretty Horses, won The National Book of The Year prize. And his latest book, The Road, won The Pulitzer Prize. I'd say he's a smart choice to take my literary cues from.
PoeticJustice05 2 years ago
Don't read sarcasm much, do you? I thought No Country and The Road were fantastic. Being a fantastic author doesn't make you a great technical author, however, which leads back to what were arguing with drumming: I don't think Danny Carey is a great technical drummer. Being a former corps drummer, I have high standards for that kind of thing.
It's funny, I started trolling this vid for kicks a few days ago, but I think I actually enjoyed talking to you.
Shotty09 2 years ago
FUUUUUU- I meant technical writer.
Shotty09 2 years ago
Yeah, I did lose my cool for a bit, because of all the name-calling and all. I have a short temper. I guess that's why I love playing drums. As a way to vent. But it's always nice to talk to someone who knows what they're talking about.
PoeticJustice05 2 years ago
I do it on purpose. It kind of goes along with trolling youtube when I'm bored.
Shotty09 2 years ago
Let's just go back to the drum solos if you want. Most people don't know how to drum, so naturally they can't appreciate complex drum solos like Neil Peart's. They just like to bob their head, without caring about how complicated the playing might be. And they like to hear Tommy Lee bang wildly on the drums and take a break and talk about his dream and say fuck a lot.
