It's strange after all these years, same old things just bigger numbers. I find this very sad . Our elected officials have done nothing to change this course. Be they Democrat or Republican firstly they are polititions ! :( all the same !!!!!
Yup, and thanks to Bill Clinton, who ACTUALLY gave us balanced budgets AND started to pay off the debt of Mr. Reagan, America was the strongest, most respected nation in the world. But the Republicans decided to spend more on investigating his blowjob than they did investigating 911. They let AlQaeda get away, went to war WHILE lowering taxes, and deregulated to the point where Bear, Lehman and Bernie could destroy us all. What great accomplishments. Thanks!
Um, you do know we have three (3) branches of government, and the branch that controls the purse is The House of Representatives (where all appropriations bills must originate) and Bill Clinton was blessed with a Republican Congress for the first time in 42 years. The Democrats didn't just take back the House in 2008-- they've controlled it for three years. So, I guess it's not that you're ignorant-- it's that you know so much that isn't so... :)
Right, and that's why when they finally overcame Clinton's veto power in 2000 budgets continued to be balanced. Oh wait.. nope, they were finally allowed to do what they had wanted to do in the 90s but were prevented from doing so by Clinton's veto. No fiscal conservative could argue that cutting taxes while going to war is permissable.
It's not that you're ignorant, it's that you're a blind fundamentalist.
The Republicans took control of the Congress in 1994 not 2000. You don't even have a basic fact correct and you want to lecture us on budgets? Please...
That's not what I said -- read it again. The Republicans DID take control in 94, and more or less held it throughout the 90s and into the 2000s. In the 90s, many of their initiatives were vetoed by Clinton. With the election of George W. Bush, they no longer had the threat of veto power. (hence "overcame Clinton's veto power). They then started passing what they had dreamed of passing under Clinton but couldn't. The rest is history. Epic fail.
Epic fail? Really? Using internet speak when debating politics?
Anyway, the Republicans had the majority of the Congress meaning they had the ability to override any veto Clinton may have made (Take a look at how many vetoes he actually made by the way.)
Again, you lack a basic understanding of how our government even works by clearly not knowing that important little foil to your entire argument. So as you would say "Epic Fail."
@dafinchman ..And a liberal will always, always advise raising taxes. As the old slogan goes, a lib never met a tax he didn't hike. And yes, you can still cut taxes and go to war...though I know that confounds your limited economic mind...
wow... dafinchman, talking about debt look at obama spending more in 5 months then every president before him all combined and Reagan was fighting a forty year long war ...oh by the way we won it thanks to him, and became the lone super power!
Too bad Reagan never balanced a single federal budet himself. In fact he took the debt to unprecedented levels. What a hypocrite. Republicans always talk about reducing government debts, yet will never ever cut wasteful pork out of defense spending, and will never consider NOT waging unnecessary wars.
dafinchman- have you met President Obama? He has not only racked up a record Federal deficit, he has borrowed more in 6 months than every previous President since George Washington.
Bingo! Democrats. AND, under Ronald Reagan tax receipts doubled. On his last day in office, revenue to the treasury was double what it was when Reagan took office
That's right kids, revenue to the treasury INCREASED, but the Dems in Congress SPENT THE MONEY faster than it came in.
STILL talking about budgets with Obama at the helm, you're on thin ice my friend. Talk about an "epic fail". Obama has been in Office six months and he has the worst fiscal record since the Revolutionary War.

Oh yeah and every War of the last one hundred years with the exception of The War on Terror was started by the Democrats.
