@limeyny AS I said, prevailing wage law is pretty basic. It's up to the employees to make sure they get their pay. They have recourse through the court system to do so. You don't need the DOL to do your fighting for you. I do have an open mind. My dad was union his entire life. Haha all those supporting unions and claim unions are good need to go take an economics course. union workers pay for there own training and other members training out of there own pocket. the company benefits from this by getting the best trained workers they can pay for.

The unions were good for workers back in the day, that's all changed now. Its not about who can do the job better, but cheaper. Then who can do it cheaper than the guy who can do it cheaper than you. Then cheaper that guy. Then cheaper and cheaper and cheaper. The problem with your other argument is that there are far more workers than employers. Thus workers don't have that variance of choice to choose among employment. Further, it is much easier for an employer to replace a workforce than it is for a worker to replace an employer. Why? Several reasons. For one mega-employers have access to every corner of the globe, to every population. They have that power to choose whomever will work the cheapest. Power relations are unbalanced
Lastly, the government doesn't regulate and supervise business. Business regulates and supervises the government. Congress, the courts, and the white house are bought off. You don't need the DOL to do your fighting for you. I do have an open mind. My dad was union his entire life. @iwearwhite I work my ass off period...........i was non union for 15 years, busted my ass building powerhouses, refineries etc, all over the country, now im in a union, and to tell you the truth im very proud of that, not because i can afford to pay the 10k plus a year property taxes NY puts on me, or the $4 gas to get to work, or put food on my family table, but because in my time as a non union worker, i saw on many occasions good people get fired for nothing, my mind is made up!

Haha all those supporting unions and claim unions are good need to go take an economics course. There is a reason right to work states have twice the job growth and less unemployment than forced union states. Unions once had a place in society but they no longer do. Unions need to realize that their pensions and wages they demand are not sustatinable and actually lead to LONG TERM UNEMPLOYMENT which in turn negatively affects the overall economy.

union workers pay for there own training and other members training out of there own pocket. the company benefits from this by getting the best trained workers they can pay for.
When a union company goes double breasted, they take some of those workers (the ballsucks that dont stand up for themselves) and make them work on the non union sites for less pay and no benefits. while the workers who play by the rules sit outside picketing.

It's about the have's and the have not's and not for nothing but I'm a non union carpenter who has been in warranty for 20 years now. I fix union built high-rises and I've never been laid off. Why is that? because union work is so much better? NOT LIKELY! Just because you have a card that says your a carpenter it doesn't make it so. I'm just saying :)

If non-fiction is what you're seeking read Jacob Riis's book or just look at the immense poverty rates and the class disparity between the rich and the working-class in industrial America before the labor movement. High wages and benefits weren't given generously. Historically they were fought for and won by fierce labor activism

Further, it is much easier for an employer to replace a workforce than it is for a worker to replace an employer. Why? Several reasons.
