  • How bout Kim kmon peeple!!!!

  • This is a master class in the value of empty space during a solo on any instrument. This is what struck me as I first discovered TBirds music. Jimmie is the master of this and it is one of the things that made he and Stevie's style different.

  • Go Jimmie! Why play 1,000 notes when one will kill? Fantastic!

  • So great. Did anybody else have technical difficulties about 2 minutes into the video? He really seems to be channeling B.B. on the solo, huh? Lots to love here.

  • @jonathan1stewart Yep it appears damaged. Wasn't like this before.

  • Good LAAAWWWDD I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!

  • Hi Preston! long time no see !

  • JLV in one of the best guitars players I ever heard.

  • proper blues!!

  • TBirds are incredible, love the sound.

  • I saw The Fab T-birds at Dingwalls in London about thirty years ago.

Probably the best gig I ever went to.

  • @STILLAVRIL1 What a coincidence! Must have been around this time that I too 'caught the bug'! Marquee Club, Wardour Stm around '89-ish? Think I'd heard them on the Nicky Horne Radio Show.

Think that was it for me really, been a fan ever since.

Me and the ol man have met Kim a few times since: what a truly nice bloke, very gracious. And so bloody hot these days ha, ha, ha, ha!!!

Have seen a number of line ups at UK gigs since then: but its always Kim that draws me back! Come back soon Fab Ts

  • ive watched this video maybe 20 times..keep coming back to it. getting to meet jimmie many times in austin so many great night seeing him play MUCH respect.

  • JLV and Johnny Watson are my favorite gtr players of all time!! I am a player and wish I could play half as good as them

  • this is just that good it beats any solo that has a million notes in it, because its all soul and feel in it, theres no technicality for technicality's sake! its all about the less you play but the right notes at the right time in the bar! thats what does it, and jimmie is the master at it! been studying his style for many years now and still havent mastered it! lol

  • check out the space! like bb and jimmie rodgers, loads of space, thats what slow blues is about! lol

  • Why play 1,000 notes when one - the right one, will suffice? Such an understated yet measured, masterly solo. What a talent!

  • mr bluzier

i saw tbirds play at dingwals 1980. he played that strat plugged into a fender proreverb and another proreverb linked input to input. really its a case of its in his fingers, he is one of the best, amazing.

  • @SJBluzman and Pre00, Damn right! I have studied JLV more than any other guitarist for nearly 7 years and I still have trouble making the sounds he could. If you watch the video of Stevie playing "Leave my little girl alone" in Amarillo you can hear all of these licks that Jimmie was playing. You can tell he really idolized his brother. I wish I knew the equipment JV used and how his guitar wiring was set up but you cant find this info anywhere...

  • JIMMY VAUGHAN IS A MASTER

  • Great song

  • Real Blues Carnales in the action !!!

    Don't Mess with TEXAS !!!

  • Real Blues Carnales in the action !!!

  • This one video shuts the mouths of a whole herd of ignorant fucks who think Jimmie Lee Vaughan is over-rated. A master and his master-piece.

  • One of my personal guitar Heros right up there with Little Jr. Onehand.

  • i've seen jimmie 20 days ago in Paris in a famous old jazz club and believe me it was INCREDIBLE!! MR Vaughan....

  • Simply incredible!! There is only one JLV!

  • Damn, theres a pile of melted plastic and wire where my speakers used to be.......

JLV, as good as it gets........

  • Simply, the best strat guitarist of all time.

  • jimmie.....

  • i have heard robin trower in 79 say jimmie was someone he listened to and admired. on hearing stevie later in 82

both the vaughan bros are to me.

  • JLV is the most underrated player on the planet. He can play anyone under the table, but never shows off at the expense of the song...has taken me close to 30 years to learn that lesson.

  • Ditto that! Isn't it amazing that after trying to playing every note I know--every freakin' time--that with age comes experience, and the lesson that less is truly more!

  • You got that right, brother. All you have to do is listen to JLV, Anson and my absolute FAVORITE unknown/underrated player, Derek O'Brien, to see how cool having some space is. The cool thing is that by NOT playing like I am getting paid by the note, I now stand out and am getting good gigs. Long live rhythm guitar and tasty, concise solos. :)

  • @SJBluzman ..EXACTLY..srv once said jimmie plays about 1/10 of what he really knows...i've been playing 31yrs and still can't get that off-beat lead thing he does..his dynamics are the best...i'd rather hear JLV than 100 shred freaks..JLV has long been admired in guitarist community but has never been about flash..plus he is just too damn cool on stage

  • @SJBluzman No, he's definately rated

  • grga888, yeah Iagree on all counts

  • Christ I think Jimmy is incredible. As much as he cites influences he has (and plays kind of intimidated when he's with them) he's really got his own sound. Definitely prefer him to his little brother. i know I'm in the minority, but this guy is the real McCoy.

  • Jimmie is certainly good, but I personally prefer his brother, to me he is the ultimate blues guitar god of all time.

  • @grga888 Well one day you will grow up and learn to appreciate something called economy of phrasing. Its what seperates the men from the boys. Its why B.B King is STILL KiNG!! Stevie could do it when he wanted but he did tend to over-play.

  • Jimmie is more of a traditional player than Stevie. Different sound and different style. And hell yes he's the real McCoy, he's been playing for over 50 years. His band opened for Hendrix....yeah...the real deal.

  • I feel like Jimmie's solos really sound like talking; they are SAYING something. I have never really felt that way with Stevie. Obviously he's a great player, but Jimmie talks with his guitar in a way Stevie couldn't. Just a thought..

  • @grga888 I didnt say 50 yrs on the scene. I said playing. He's about to turn 59. I should know, I've known him since Austin in the 1970's.

  • both have their charms, but i lean towards jimmie's playing too - so sparse and tasty!

  • I agree...far prefer Jimmie's use of space...creates a lot of tension...that and the tone coming from that swamp ash body.

  • @anndeesavage I agree totally, without taking anything away from SRV, Jimmie's my favorite too.

  • Awesome. I so loved Jimmy with the T Birds. Their collective rhythmic force was huge. They all know how to play the notes and the space.

I agree about the Jimmy with a pick comment. Most players without a pick I really love...Snooks Eaglin, Ry Cooder, Alberts King/Collins, Jeff Beck, but Jimmy I really liked better with a pick and with the T Birds more than on his own.

  • these were some good days man

  • feel privaleged to have seen so many line-ups of the T Birds: Jimmie, Nick C, and the new boys Johnnie and Mike. Have loved 'em all x

First saw them in London around '80 - have been in love with Kim ever since xxx

PLEASE come back to the UK again sometime soon Mr W and Co

  • great vid...

jimmie, the way i love him...

    when he used a pick....ha.

    love all his stuff still..

  • Jimmie is SICK! Gotta love Kim Wilson with Preston and Fran too...Dont forget Keith Furgeson the original bass player...awesome blues band.

  • Ferguson = best ever on bass guitar.

  • @jcr23ky Amen to that. Saw him with the T-Birds many times and the Tailgators a couple of times. Ferguson really made the way Jimmie played in this band possible, and they were not the same band after he left.

  • @jcr23ky - this is Preston Hubbard here, another great player.

  • @msatawake Keith was a sad loss....tremendous low slung bassist!

  • @msatawake you forgot Mike Buck.

  • Maybe more like Freddy King. But this was his show stopper. He can nail this stuff or at least he could in those days. Jimmie is the best. Big brother. Sugar Ray Vaughan´s biggest influence. And that´s the fact.

  • Jimmie Vaughan playing B.B. King style - superb!

  • Thanks Bluestrader, love the music. Did you know there's 1:15 of silence from about 2 mins in?

Looks like Jimmie's expecting a quick turnaround on the intro but the band plays a full 12 bars.

  • tks for posting, awesome!*****

  • BEAUTIFUL! it's the gaps he leaves as much as the playing. real deal! thanks for such an awesome post :-)

  • Jimmie doing slow blues is the absolute winner
