which of the 3 is the most versatile, and which do you think would suit me best? i play lots of Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, a fare bit of punk, and i dabble in a little Metallica from time to time.
Ive been looking around and Ive really gotten a nice appreciation for the H&K Warp pedal. Im thinking of grabbing an Ibanez Tube King999 and putting it in front of a H&K Warp to give the Warp some versatility and warmth. Anybody object to this idea, think there is a better alternative or have an opinion on this idea?
double shot sucks. It doesnt have a enough gain or the proper tone to achieve high gain metal. Metal muff is the best choice. The warp factor has the most amp like tone but its EQ options are limited so you wont be able to shape your sound like the metal muff allows
Mod that warp factor for a few bucks and it'll blow everything away. Also for rock music just turn tone knob on the warp factor left to about 9 o'clock and turn the gain down (maybe even roll the volume back on your guitar a little) and you can get more of a classic rock styled tone, it's that easy!
The muff sucks . Mine died and EH wanted me to pay for the repair 48 dollars and shipping to and from. And yes it was under warranty. Try the MXR FULLBORE METAL pedal. Great for METAL .
you know what will kick all of them a fucking good amp head like diezel herbert or ENGL, save money for a good amp head and who the fuck need the pedals i had many of them god damn it and after i got my diezel vh 4 few years ago i never wanted to use fuking pedals anymore, because pedals will never give you that what you want sorry for bad words but this is my opinion
That's true, pedals can't get you the same dynamics, and 9/10 high gain pedals sound fizzy and ugly.
One of the best high gain pedals i've tried is actually the Warp Factor and it's pretty cheap.. But i only use high gain pedals that one time in the year where i feel like metal :)
I traded my Boss MT-2 for that Metal Muff and man what a good trade. I find it easier to get more of the sound I want from the Metal Muff. MXR is good in my opinion also.
I guess the MXR would definately be the most versatile, if you dont play metal. If you do, youd be best off if you didnt get any of the pedals, but a Boss MT-2. Its definately THE most versatile distortion Pedal (analog that is) on the market, or at least of that i know of. Ive tried many pedals, but keep sticking with Boss in the end.
i dont use behringer for distortion, i use them for everything else. i agree a lot of the behringer distortion pedals definately arent that great, but for everything else you just cant beat em for the price
ive had 4 behringer pedals and they all broke within 5 days of use. two of them just stopped working period... the others had faulty wiring. i think the only good pedal they make is the hell babe wah
really? i abuse my pedals and none of them break. i guess thats just bad luck on your part or bad luck on my part. hope you get one that doesnt break XD
i had the auto wah pedal, the multifx pedal, the ultra feedbacker, and the chorus... and they all broke... the multifx (cant remember what its exactly called... the fx something) well it broke after using it one time. just quit working all together for no explainable reason... and that sucked because it really did have a good sound... great digital delay. but it needs to be reliable and boss pedals are the most reliable i have ever owned.
@Fluffypopcicle True, but if your a little bit handy with a soldering iron you can upgrade the Boss Metal Zone to one of the best sounding distortion pedals ever. There's maybe three or four different versions of upgrade kits and it kills all the hiss crap.I just finished the Warp Factor upgrade for like $18 and it's now one of my favorite pedals. But if anyone wants a true killer pedal without mods, check out the discontinued Zoom Tri-Metal pedal on Ebay-it is brutal but not nasally or noisy.
@38decembers Where can I find the Warp Factor upgrade kit/schematic? All I've been able to find are the Keeley, Boogie, and Diesel mods - I love the warp factor sound and I already have an MT-2 that I don't really use and would love to turn into something awesome!
Behringer pedals break easier, but they sound just as good. I bought a Boss pedal once, but I sent it back because it was a piece of shit not even worth half of what I bought it for.
@Fluffypopcicle No sorry, Behringer does not even sound half as good as Boss does. You've simply had some bad experiences with them. Boss pedals are decent, some of them are better than other brands, most aren't. But Behringer is nowhere near Boss.
I have played several Boss pedals, almost all of them suck. In any case, sounds good is a matter of opinion. This argument can't possibly go anywhere.
i agree with you.... boss pedals are built like tanks... i have the metal zone and the metal core... i prefer the metal core for live stuff, but when im recording and need a great lead distortion from a pedal ... the metal zone is it. (i usually just use my marshall amp overdrive though... nothing beats that)
the warp factor by a longshot. dont believe me type in crate gx80 hughes and kettner to see a wicked arch enemy guitar solo cover. thats what you get when you use the warp factor right.
I've always liked the EH Metal Muff, but I've owned the Warp Factor and MXR Doubleshot Distortion.
All I can say is that, the Warp Factor has massive, dark, deep distortion with a "sub" button in the middle which really dig in the chunkiness of a riff but it's not as versatile as the MXR Doubleshot. which suitable for riffs and solos. Mostly I use Warp Factor for heavy songs and MXR on some solos. But still the best is my Triple Rectifier for any songs ;)
EH metal muff all the way for me!! this is not the best but i really dont like the doubleshot and the warp factor. its hard to match a guitar-pedal-amp to have a good sound.

The Metal Muff sounds analogue, ( chances are that it is, it's a EHX ) and for price and value, The Matel Muff is a step ahead.

They all sound good. Glad I saw this video and saved my money. I'll stick with my Metal Muff for now. Almost bought the Warp Factor too, but what for?
I have two Zoom Tri Metals too. They lack sustain but are good in avoiding feedback in loud situations.

@padawan007 If you playing live of course it would be more sensible to invest in a quality high gain amp but for home practice an amp is overkill

boss is a bunch of overrated and overpriced crap. you can get the same quality as boss but for half the price with behringer.
Fluffypopcicle 2 years ago 13
if you think so then thats your prob ;-)
i dont wanna say that the prices for boss stuff are ok, but behringer would be the last place where id go (except for the bugeras)
the effects are way too bassy, they mud up everything and the pedals are made of plastic.
the delays and reverbs are ok, chorus is also ok, but for distortion, behringer fuckin sucks (ive owned some before)
