Go to settings -> General -> Keyboard -> International Keyboard -> Add New Keyboard -> Then select Emoji. :)

It works.............and doesn't. The emoticons showed up on my iPod Touch when I sent an email to myself. But when I checked my Yahoo Mail, they appear as small boxes with numbers inside on Foxfire and just plain boxes on Explorer. Oh well. For some reason, it seems to be a big mystery as to how to get these things to show up via Browsers.

yes they do for phones that don't support emoji/emoticons (which unfortunately is most phones other than the iPhone)...same goes with Twitter, if you put emoji in a tweet it won't show up on your computer or a different phone

it may not work on all phones for text messaging, but it usually works on emails and other places where you can input text
