@VinmanMJ23, Your absolutely right my man..I lived the eighties/early 90s and Kemp was one of my favorite dunkers but that was basically what he was remembered for, lightyears away from a prime Jordan but a solid entertainer with his dunks.
@VinmanMJ23 nothing else? are you an idiot? he wasnt a 6-time allstar for no reason. he averaged just about 20 points a game, grabbed about 10 boards, and played great defensive. your just pissed because he embarrased MJ in chicago with that rejection. point made.
@VinmanMJ23 I disagree that Kemp was solely a dunker. Early on in his career, he was very raw, but he became a decent mid-range shooter and solid post player by the mid-90's. You don't score 15,000 career points by being strictly a dunker.
@hoopfan71 You are the second person to disagree with me on this so maybe I am wrong. My perception of Kemp is strictly a dunker, somewhat like Vince Carter. VC is the best dunker ever though.
@VinmanMJ23 Both Kemp and Carter are/were amazing athletes, but the depths of their games is more than just highlight plays. Outlets like ESPN are to "blame" for this perception. I watched Kemp a LOT here in Seattle, and I got to watch his game mature over the years. Vince Carter became a good outside shooter and good overall basketball player, but his dunks are what made people pay attention.
@VinmanMJ23 mAKE THAT THREE BRO. VINCE CARTER DOESN'T HAVE ANYTHING ON KEMP. THE PROBLEM WITH THE DUNKS THESE DAYS IS THAT THEY SEEM TO BE HARDLY EVER IN TRAFFIC LIKE THE DAYS OF KEMP AND JORDAN. GUYS THAT CAN DUNK ON BREAKAWAYS TO ME JUST ISN'T THE SAME AS "IN TRAFFIC" :) THE 90'S SOMEONE WAS ALWAYS TRYING TO CONTEST YOU LIKE IN THIS VIDEO EVEN JORDAN ISN'T SPARED.:0 WHEN KEMP'S IN THE PAINT.:)
ican imagine all those kids crying because their hero got owned!and the best part is that after that game he went straight to mc'donalds to have some frys with a big mac and then later fucked his wife, man thats ma nigga!
Shawn Kemp was really fun to watch. There were a lot of things that he didn't do very well, but from a pure athletic standpoint, there weren't many that were his superior.
Not quite. When it comes to dunking (I'm trying to compare them in other areas of the game) Shawn was much more better than dwight (way more explosive and stylish!!) and vince much better than Kobe)
Kemp ushered in the modern era of the super athletic big man and paved the way for guys like Kevin Garnett, Dwight Howard and others. Big guys with the atheticism of a small forward.
Look how dumb things you say: So what is the reason that Kemp posterized Jordan, because Kemp is taller or because he is younger? You say Kemp is taller and than you say that back in the day Jordan wouldn't get blocked. Crap, man!
Well Jordan would have swallowed this block by Kemp no matter the year, the Arena, the time, whatever. Even if he tries it 100 times in front of Kemp, he will be 100 times rejected.
Kemp is stronger than Lebron and has far more finesse than Carter. Carter has only hops, he is not plastic in the air, he gfoes up and down like a stiff bag of mud.
You got 50 Knicks games?? You must be a Knick fan. I'm NOT gonna argue with a fellow Knick fan but Shawn is not a finesse guy, he ran through cats. Finesse is Jordan, Wade, Kobe, Dr.J. Power is Kenyon Martin, Shaq, and the Reignman...
Of course Kemp had raw power but watch his movement: His fluidity, plasticity and finesse is unmatched. He had hang time and could fake in the air like 6 times. If this is not finesse what is?
I hear you, I fell maybe they are different levels of finesse. the MJ "dancer-like" finesse, the AI stutter step/crossover finesse, and a power finesse like Olajuwon and Kemp
I wonder why jordan just didnt take it strong and dunk ..kemp would have knocked him to the floor thats what i'm thinkin ..jordan punked out with that weak lay up attempt
now if Jordan did that to him, there would be a commercial about it, t shirts made, people having heart attacks and even more people at the alter of Jordan.
thats only cause jordan is the best player to ever play the game and he has blocked about half the people in the NBA of that time and won 6 championships with 2 three peats so dont hate on jordan
That's great and I respect that so much. I myself am a Celtics fan and have to respect everything the Lakers have done. Same case with me being a Red Sox fan, I respect the Yankees and their history.
Jordan Blocked Ewing once. Jordan even Dunked on Kemp (during Shawns Cleveland days)I hear what you are about the whole "people at the alter of Jordan" thing.Too me, This whole "cult' thing with Lebron is bugging me now. And now they talkin about him coming to NY in 2010. They can keep him, I don't need another Arod type here. Give me Wade. and If I had a time machine,Shawn Kemp!
for his size shawn kemp is one of the best in game dunkers of all time, yes I think LeBron and carter are better then him at dunking, but the guy was sex foot ten! For a big guy with that much controll? it's amazing! I'm from seattle and goddamn I miss him!

He could shoot, run the floor and move laterally as well as any big man. What he didn't have was the desire like a Jordan or Hakeem, two tremendous competitors.
hakeem was kind of a jerk to his guys when he was coming in but ended up a great teammate and never took a night off. you can never fault a guy that cares as much as he did. i had two olajuwon jerseys in the 90s, as well as a houston horry jersey (lol)

hall-of-fame talent that never reached what should have been
i also watched a young eddie griffin in philly. tragic
Yeah, young Hakeem was noted for his anger and propensity to get into fights, but he really grew out of that and became a very centered individual.
Griffin is a tremendously sad case. He had so much talent... Rudy T, who is as good an evaluator of talent as there is, traded three picks including Richard Jefferson to get him. I saw games where Griffin literally dominated the paint, but his demons ultimately got the best of him.
Griffin to me proves that it's not about high school vs.college as far as making the jump goes. Some guys just can't handle it. I don't wanna armchair-analyze the guy but I think he had some kind of bipolar disorder or something. Had to have
I saw a lot of him at RC in Illy and he was incredible. I admit I never saw Kemp or Michael or Perkins or others that dominated their high school teams but I've seen all the Philly cats and Eddie was the best by far
I wouldn't say that- I remember reading an Sporting News story on Kemp in the 90s-he had a greuling off-season training schedule. The issue with Kemp is his depression after his trade to Cleveland led to alcoholism and drug abuse. He felt betrayed by the Sonics and took losing too badly when he was in Cleveland. I guarantee if the Sonics would've never let him go, he would've been a hall-of famer. It's too bad-hasn't been a big man like him since.
Olajuwon was amazing. The other twin tower,Ralph Samson, was another incredible 7 footer-he was just plagued by injuries. What kills me is that folks think that Dirk and Garnett have broke the mold and redefined the big man position. Sampson and Olajuwon were more versatile than both of them. Oh and my other favorites were David Robinson and Patrick Ewing- man do I lament the good ole day in the 80s and 90s when professional basketball was top notch and players had fundamentals.
I feel exactly the way you do. The 2000's are almost over already, and I sorely miss the 90's for many reasons. One of those reasons being how great basketball was during that decade.
In the official top 10 of the 1996 Finals (NBA TV), at No.1 they don't have this block, they don't have any of Kemp's thunderous dunks from that series, but they have a ridiculous faggy Jordan layup in the fastbreak. Check it out and throw up.
Wow! Look how he went up for the block....waited....waited...put his hand on the backboard, then finally Jordan put the shot up and Kemp wiped it clean! Sick hang time on that one!
im sure the announcers were saying "oh come on where is the foul at for God sake"? So sick of Jordan. If Jordan cut the lawn and a camera crew was around they would be yelling about how great he cuts the grass. We get it, he is good but it was WAY out of hand
kobe is what he is b/c of jordan kobe's game is similar to that of jordan watch games of jordan then watch a kobe game that turnaround jumper is similar to somebody only major difference jordan had pippen kobe has lamar odom and not even the good clippers odom kobe got the lazy i wanna go inside odom
That was a great block by Kemp. Jordan did not get blocked that often agreed, but David Robinson got him a few times including blocking a Jordan dunk.
LOL. Jordan was such a fucking cheater. Peep the way he tried to literally shove Kemp out of the way with his left to avoid getting stuffed. Jordan got away with mushing, and pushing with his off hand A LOT whenever you look at Jordan highlights. But he earned it.
good clip. This is rare. Mike went in there muchh too weak. Shawn was raw during this time. If i'm not mistaken, this was during the NBA finals right?
the 96 bulls are considered to be the best nba team ever, and this is proven with the best record ever. Their biggest scare of that season was going to the little key arena in seattle, the nba's smallest venue, and having the loudest fans in their whole season. Their big scare was they lost both games in seattle after they thought they were going to sweep. goes to show taht 90's is the best era of the nba
it's a tribute to MJ's greatness that folks search this kind of thing out. Kemp, the original man-child, was a GREAT player. I miss the good old days.
You guys act like Shawn Kemp wasn't a good player...everyone has gotten blocked in the NBA...but yeah, just another good defensive play. Only diff is it's on michael...lol, and because michaels so good, that's why we are looking at this now.
Kemp jumped a shitload higher than jordan, but jordan had more body control in the air than any player ever

Since you don't know yet what is finesse, players with finesse are and were: J-Rich, D.Wayde, Dee Brown, L.Johnson, M.Jordan and of course Shawn Kemp.
Carter belongs to the category of leapers, but of heavy physique (lack of athletisism): like Barkley, Mourning, R.Jefferson, John Starks etc.

Wow! Look how he went up for the block....waited....waited...put his hand on the backboard, then finally Jordan put the shot up and Kemp wiped it clean! Sick hang time on that one!

this is my favorite jordan highlight, lol

im sure the announcers were saying "oh come on where is the foul at for God sake"? So sick of Jordan. If Jordan cut the lawn and a camera crew was around they would be yelling about how great he cuts the grass. We get it, he is good but it was WAY out of hand

acedenach 4 years ago 5
Lol exactly. What Jordan is not supposed to get blocked?
liquidgold 4 years ago 2
yea ur right, jordan got blocked, hes the worst basketball player ever to play the game now
bigu236 3 years ago 3
That was a great block by Kemp. Jordan did not get blocked that often agreed, but David Robinson got him a few times including blocking a Jordan dunk.
Kenai123 4 years ago
