Serif WebPlus X5 Web Design Software - Create a Website Now!

I just bought this software this afternoon and I can say after spending about 4 hours with it, it is extremely difficult to learn for a beginner. They say you can have a website up in running in minutes? That makes me feel stupid.

@jazzyazz Hi Jazzy, sorry you've been frustrated, I agree it could be simpler although with so many features it's a juggling act to make everything instantly accessible. I recommend you watch the two videos called Getting Started and Creating a Site from Scratch. Those will provide the best introduction to WebPlus, and after that you can turn to other tutorial videos, the How To tab, the Help system and tool tips to go further. Once you crack the basics, the sky's the limit! Best wishes, Dale.

can it design flash menus? with rollover sounds, animation under buttons, etc.. or do I have to use flash menu factory?

Yes and no, there are some built-in Flash banners in WebPlus X5 that you can quite heavily modify - timing, text, images etc, but Flash cannot be fully designed from the ground up in WebPlus X5. For total control you'd need to import Flash from elsewhere, which is fully supported. HTH, Dale.

Can we make like a login and a signup box for ppl to signup/in?????So that they can view member protected area.And can the webplus x5 be installed in different computers???Limit?

@Tjandy98 Hi there, yes you can get visitors to sign up and log in, there's a "Smart Object" called Access Control that manages this for you. It supports automatic signup with email verification, logging in to restrict access to pages and forums, and user levels so you can create sub groups, e.g. forum moderators. There's a tutorial on Serif.com that can help further. And the WebPlus license allows you to install your software on one desktop and one laptop only. Hope that helps, Dale @ Serif.

If you use a “Smart Object” you have to go on-line with Serif to register it. Why, because they keep the data on their server!! You cannot keep you own data on your own selected host! You cannot control your own data, you cannot maintain your own data – the data you collect is at Serif! If your usage is too high you need to purchase additional storage from them! You CANNOT develop code or host your internet site without being attached to Serif if you use a “Smart Object”.

Smart Objects are hosted by SerifWebResources (on the Amazon cloud) - Serif does this so that the features can be made easy for customers to implement, with no HTML coding required! WebPlus offers easy settings in a dialog, so these smart web gadgets become very simple to use. But if you would like to host your own data, you can insert HTML and use any host you wish, so you can integrate your own server-side solutions and manage data yourself. HTH, Dale @ Serif.

@LoniHart Hi Loni. Control and + together don't zoom for me, but Control and number keys 1 through 9 achieve popular zoom presets, and Control and mousewheel zooms as well. Sorry I can't replicate the crash or promise it's to be fixed, as my WebPlus X5's behaving differently. The Help system doesn't mention Control and + either. Is it a custom shortcut? @3dofanatic Hi I'm a WebPlus user and yes, it is easy to insert HTML to include ads from other sources. Just visit the forums at forums.serif.com and there are many, many experienced users to help you along, including me.

It has built-in graphics and layout tools, a button and navbar designer, an interactive 'panel' maker, photo editing, and a unique image Cut Out Studio. Your graphic design skills will translate straight into attractive websites with WebPlus X5 as it doesn't demand any coding skills from you.

It is good But Hmmmmmmmmm, is it as good as Dreamweaver?

@jettero1 It has a different purpose jettero. Dreamweaver's strength is hand-coding websites, WebPlus X5's strength is helping people design sites without having to do any coding. WebPlus X5 also allows custom code to be inserted, yet its visual, drag-and-drop approach makes site design and adding interactivity very easy.
