  • DON.

  • WTF is he waffling on about XD I Just burst out laughing when he said the girls chat him up at the bakery XD

  • TELL IT LIKE IT IS GRAMPA, STICK IT TO THE MAN!!!!!!!

  • GOD BLESS WAL-MART!

  • Good job for supporting locally owned stores. Here in America our country has been hit with chain restaurants and places like Wal Mart and there aren't many little mom-and-pop stores.

  • @EWilsonLife Sad to hear, thankfully however, Independent shops are still very vey common and popular in England/Britain and Europe.

  • the question is: do the packets of crisps contain the exat amount the little man proclaims to start with? or does he sometimes have a bad day so that there could be 3 1/2 crisps less, mmmmmh

  • In Norway the price pr. 100 grammes or pr kilo is nearly always stated on the price tag.

  • @peterakr Australia too :) I was just going to comment that lol

  • The MOST economical way to do this is to buy the plastic 'snack-sized' baggies and the largest bag of crisps (450 gms?) At home, divide the crisps amongst the small bags and seal. It's not as wasteful as it may sound, as the baggies can be used over and over again. This way you can also control your own portion sizes, important if you're watching calories and/or sodium intake. In the end, one can save a lot of money by dividing up the larger sizes of many things themselves.

  • And...I also 'spring' for the 'good' baggies, as they will not only seal better (I like the 'zipper' type of seals) they will also prove sturdier and last much longer. They can also be sent through the dish machine, though there IS a small trick to doing that. (Just make sure you've turned the heat dry cycle off). This means spending just a bit more initially will save you in the end. (And, when they're on at a good sale price, I stock up.) I LOVE a good bargain, makes shopping fun (almost)

  • A) 6 x 25g = 150g @ 140p 150g divided by 140p = 1.07g per 1p 140p divided by 150g = 0.933p per 1g B) 6 x 34.5g = 207g @ 270p 207g divided by 270p = 0.766g per 1p 270p divided by 207g = 1.304p per 1g So, the pack of 6 (A), costs 0.933p per 1g and (B) costs 1.304p per 1g, therefore (B) costs 0.37p more per 1g. That means buying the pack of 6 @ 140p saves you 55.6p! (150g @ 1.304p per 1g = 195.6p compared to 140p) I think I need a lie down now! Thanks for making us use our brains, Peter! xx
  • Hello Peter! Thanks for pointing that out about the weight difference. Ill look at this more carefully next time! Most mobile phones have a calculator so we could try to calculate it on the spot but its actually more complicated than you think, isnt it?! You cant be completely accurate without going to several decimal points! I'll show my calculation in my next message as there's not enough room here...

  • Lol, there's Worcestershire sauce-flavored crisps in the UK? I also saw a pack of prawn-flavored ones elsewhere. That's definitely interesting.

  • Some people take a small calculator to the store w/them to figure it out quickly. I've done that at home & found that the supermarket cost more; so I don't buy them there anymore. Mary

  • Now look what you did, I'll be thinking of that man in the walkers factory with a little knife cutting the crisps in half, hahaha

  • The multipack is cheaper but not by alot.

  • At most supermarkets in the United States, the label on the shelf beneath the product tells you not only the total price but also the price per unit (liter, fluid ounce, avoir dupois ounce, gram, pound, whatever).

  • Dear Peter,

You are just wonderful! :) You brighten my day!

    -Kyndal :)

  • No problems, man.

I like your vids, keep 'em going. Im on my way on YouTube with 450+ subs.

I thought he was talking to me as his comment was a reply to mine.

    Peace and empathy!

  • savloy u sound like the fucking queer mate cussing over an old guy who comes on youtube to make awsome videos u should be ashamed of yourself u fucking asshole go outside and get a life.

  • I also shop at all local shops that I can.

Although I'm 19, I've been brought up in a very welsh, community based area. An ASDA moved into town, killing several local shops and a Kwik Save, which where we are, was a very local shop. It also killed a Sainsbury's and shops I'd grown up with... now gone.

I only go to supermarkets for stuff like games and some cheap clothes, maybe a 17p bottle of lemonade when I'm feeling poor.

Good on you for fighting for the community!

    -Gears

  • 6 packs of 25g = 5p per gram of crisps.

6 packs of 34.5g = 8p per gram of crisps (rounded up by 0.2 of a penny.

You spend more on the 6 x 34.5 grams for an extra 3p per gram.

  • no, 6 packs of 25g crisps costing £1.40 = just less than 1p per gram (140 / 6 / 25 = 0.93)

    6 packs of 34.5g crisps costing 45p per pack (£2.70) = 1.3p per gram (270 / 6 / 34.5 = 1.3)

  • Peter,

When Walkers Crips approched you to advertise their product,,, was it the same people that approched Karl Daily81??

    ...lol...

  • I love your videos :)

  • "More sensible next time"?!.. No Sir, I'm right with you! . And I won't stand for it either! When the 'marketering people' make-up new terms for price/pound, (US), they just lost a long time customer. And they'll be hell-sent to recoup me! I'll alway's pay more for Honesty!... I'd even pay more, to be honestly knowing I'm being ripped off!! Price is no longer my 1st thought, quality is. But if/when I feel someone is taking advantage of me.Never-Again! Thank you for opening this simple door!

  • Hi my Dear Peter! You're looking very well indeed! Now, the last time my Mum and I came to visit you in Septmeber, I had a really GREAT time going shopping with you, especially your local Butcher's where I said to the Lady assistent that I was your "LOVER!!!" *lol* ^ ^

Lot's of Love, hugs & kisses,

  • the multipack works out at 0.93pence per gram compared to the single pack price of 1.3pence per gram. Multipack is cheaper by around a third.

  • I notice that Tesco do put £ per 100g underneath the price tags on their shelves, which often does help when deciding what to buy.

  • And?

  • omgosh i love you.

    wish you were my grandad.

  • It's all a scam. You're right. People have to be careful so that they're not getting ripped off. Good commentary!

  • well the pack of 6 is 0.37p per gramme cheaper than the individual packets, it doesnt seem like much, but when you buy 150g of crisps, it becomes a 55.5p saving!

  • ^ ^ We'll always be attracted to women.

  • Hello Peter =]

You remind me of my Grandad, he is also very particular about getting good value for money!

And he uses one particular florist because he likes to chat up the young woman that works there... not sure what my Grandma thought of that... never got to ask her before she died about six days ago. She was 82 as well.

Great videos Peter, keep them coming! =]

  • Tell him hes about to die why dont you..

  • great video peter!

  • Branding market trickery is alive & well in Australia also. 2 for 1 drives me crazy! You really have to do the maths on so called specials now days.

  • Just when I'm starting to compile a grocery list you come up with this :)

  • Seabrook crisps are much tastier in my opinion, and a little cheaper too!

  • That is very cheaky of Walkers! I suggest switching brands!

Also - a good flirt is absolutely spice to a shopping trip! Bet they have nice "buns" too! ;-)

  • You pick one bakery because of the nice young girls ;) LEGEND!!!

  • You dont have a heart to say that.

  • Ahhhh, Peter...you are never manipulated if you are aware of it (wink)

  • Peter if you havn't tried them give Mcoys's crisps a go to me they are the best , bring back pounds and ounces :-)

  • i love u

  • I rarely buy small bags of crisps here in Canada. Not only did they reduce the amount of crisps in our small bags using the dubious excuse that consumers wanted less per individual bag, but they eventually raised the price 30 cents from 99 cents !

  • By the way, do I understood that your two choices were between purchasing 6 individual, smaller bags or a single pack containing 6 larger bags? If so, your best buy is the individual smaller bags, because they cost 1.07 pence per gram. That larger bags come out to 1.30 pence per gram.

But no way could I have done that without a calculator!

  • Peter, you may not wish to do this, but I never go shopping without a pocket calculator for this very reason. I do pinch my pennies!

  • How disgraceful the comments below me are. Please, Peter, don't take them to heart.

  • Don't worry about it.. he's repetitive, empty and extremely dull. I got a feeling Peter feels the same way about him as I do. (emphasize the extremely dull part mentally.. I have no clue how I could verbally :))

  • Yes, in the states, the label on the shelf will usually have the price per ounce, so it's easier to shop. These day, coffee is not sold by the pound (16 oz) as they used to be, but packages of 12 oz. etc. So, you'd see the lower price not realizing you were getting less than a pound.

  • multipack costs 0.93 pence per gram

single packs cost 1.3 pence per gram

    hope that helps :)

  • that is so very true....Have a Blessed day!

  • Really good point! Thanks for sharing

  • Most American grocery stores give you the unit price. In other words, if you were going to buy a can of beans, you could compare the price per ounce between different sizes and brands. Sweet, no?

  • Love the video.... you're so right!

  • wow, worcester flavored crisps sound singularly toothsome, wish we had that flavor here in san diego. cheers peter

  • theres a US website called wisechoiceuk. com that has those chips and lots of other goodies I cant find in the US. :)

  • @Showgirly: Aack! I wish I'd read this before Christmas. I made my own figgy pud this year, and it wasn't as good as what's on offer at wisechoice, I'm sure. Well, having said that, I'm off for seconds of mine. (Can't waste it now, can we?) But, thanks for the recommend, I will certainly order from them later.

  • The multiple pack DEFINITELY works out the cheapest!!

  • "I choose one particular baker because of the very nice young girls who chat me up."

    haha....you go Peter!

  • One of the things they've done in the US is to change the quantity in the jars and bags we've been buying for years. People don't notice because the price doesn't change, but the quantity is less! How do they do that in a jar? They put a raised bottom on the jar so the contents will hold less. They're depending upon us being creatures of habit, but even the local evening news spilled the beans on the manufacturer's tricks! Stay sharp in the supermarkets!! Buyer beware!!

  • Those are yummy! We can get them here in Colorado at a shop that sells items from the UK. :-)

  • I've found that I must use the calculator on my phone to figure how much per unit. Laundry detergent is often a real challenge - one brand is priced per ounce, another per load; they all take different amounts per load. It becomes an algebraic exercise ever time you go. I think they hope we'll just decide on whichever packaging is flashier.

  • They sell thousands and millions of these packages. You buy just one. That means it's mostly profitable for them, but not for you.

It's all calculated from tip to toe.

  • "6 packets of 25 g each for 140pence" = 0,93333333333333333333333333333333 pence per gram

    --

    "6 packets of 34.5 g at 45pence per pack" = 1,3043478260869565217391304347826 pence per gram

Clearly you sir got a bargain :)

  • LOL Peter you wild man buying chips. Great video. Always enjoy watching them. =)

  • To: TheMeatyPizzaShop2

    You inconsiderate fool.

  • Were you never taught to respect your elders? Manners? Come on! go play somewhere else. Leave Peter alone.. You are so disrespectful!!!!!!

  • It's likely counterproductive to respond to kids like you, but I wish you'd take a moment to consider this, for your own sake (really):

Fortunately, all but a few of us grow out of jerkdom, and you most probably will too. When that happens, you'll see things in a different way, and I ask you: All the crap on the Internet hangs around forever, so how are you going to feel about these juvenile insults then, and how will you explain it to the ladies then? Worth some thought.

  • No profile= no personality. I guess 5 days is not long enough to come up with an intelligent comment for a pizza brain. Hope I did not use any words that were too hard for you to understand.

  • @THEMEATYPIZZASHOP2 You know, unless you're immortal, and I suspect you aren't, you also have a decomposing body. Just letting you know.

  • You are so adorable peter :D

  • btw, they are hoping you don't do the math!

  • ONE MORE MATH PROBLEM AND I WILL BE ASKING FOR A REFUND ON MY SUBSCRIPTION FEE!!!

    (Have we just met?)

  • Lol this made me chuckle :D

  • i take a pocket calculator to the grocery store. i know it looks poor, but i always ensure i am getting the best value for money.

  • the 25 gram bags are cheaper per bag. they come in at 1.071 grams per pence, whereas the other, larger bags come in at a price of 0.766 grams per pence.

  • 6 packets of 34.5 grams at 45 pence sounds far better than the other deal. In Australia they say how much the cost is per gram. I hate going to the supermarket these days as it now far too complex a process to go through these days. I'm only 28 but I would love to have lived in any time period prior to the arrival of large supermarkets that we see today. Oh how I wish I could have have been 28 in 1955. In my opinion that time period seemed better than the modern day we live in now.

  • Multipacks still cheaper

  • Peter, we have chips(crisps) like that here with almost the same icon called Lay's here in America. They are 99 cents here for that bag. Here I think it is 1 serving per bag. I am not sure. It is usually like $5 here for a 6 pack where I shop. That is like getting 1 bag free per 6. Here in some stores they actually have a price per serving sticker near the item's prices. I study this a lot when shopping for brand/size differential saves me lots in the long run. Enjoy Peter and thanks for the vid

  • 6 packets of 25 gm each for 140pence = ? per gramme

Can be thought of as 6*25g =140 p

    which is 1g = 140p/(6*25) = 140p / 150 around 0.9 p per gram.

34.5 gm at 45pence per pack = ? per gramme

    Con be thought of as 34.5gm = 45 p

    or 1g = 45p / 34.5

    or around 1.2p per gram.

  • sneaky little bastages!!!!!!

  • local local local...The ONLY way!

  • another great vlog!

  • This video could make the keebler elves lose another job.

    God Bless...

    Randall M. Rueff

  • wonderul videos here!

  • I've been living in Austria for the last 5 years, in the supermarkets over here they do this sum for you. On the shelves where the prices are displayed, it also state how much this cost per liter or kg. This makes it so much easier to get the best deals. I have no idea if they do this in the UK too.

Looks like the multi packs are cheeper though. for 100g of multi-pack crisps you pay 93.33 pence, for the same amount of single pack crisps, 100g or 2.89 packs you will pay 130 pence.

  • Actually, what you talked about is very sensible. I've taught consumer economics here in the U.S., and I keep telling my students to be careful and know what you're getting. I also try to shop local and many times find I get a better deal. The trick is to be an informed consumer.

  • great video!

  • Sorry, I keep cutting myself off. I was trying to say that I worked in a bakery for many years. One particular gent was one of my most pleasant customers. He was in his 90's and would come in weekly. He'd tell me stories and he'd say, "when I was your age, I'd take my girl out for dinner, a movie and skating and it cost a nickel!"

    Ah, sweet times. Be well!

  • Actually, it makes it seven times more expensive per gram to buy the regular pack bags- 0.1p per gm in the multipack, 0.7p per gm in the single packs.

  • Supporting your local commumity is very nice. Peter, I smiled when you told the truth about why you shop at the bakery! I worked

  • Soyy

  • Walkers chrisps looks like the American Lays potato chips here in the US.

  • That would be because they are.

  • your so sweet :)

  • Too much sus-pence here for me. See ya Gram-ps! LOL

  • you are lovely

  • in costco i got a 24 pack of walkers for the same price i got a 6 pack walkers in waitrose =P

  • Transport to town for shopping, 2 pounds

    Six-pack of Walker's Crisps, 140 pence

Getting chatted up by the young hotties at the bakery--priceless.

    Attaboy, Peter!

  • I'm sure others did it out, but the math is here.

    6*25g=150grams

    140p/150grams= .933pence/gram

    6*34.5g=207 grams

    45p*6=270pence

    270pence/207grams=1.30pence/gram

So your intuition that the 6 pack is cheaper is right.

I think the real question is who feels like doing dimensional analysis in the supermarket. Usually the market has the price/per unit in a red tag by the total price in the US.

  • Yep 0.93p for each gram in the multipack and 1.3p for the separate ones. I knew GCSE Maths would come in use one day!

  • I've never noticed that before! :O I usually buy them in multipacks, too.

  • 6 packets of 25gm each for 140 pence = 0.93 pence per gram

6 packets of 34.5gm each fro 45 pence each = 1.3 pence per gram

so the multi-pack does work out better value

  • Hi Peter,

In case no noe's done the maths yet:

6 packets of 25 gm each for 140pence = Just over 1.07 pence per gram

and 6 packets of 34.5 gm at 45pence per pack = Just over 0.76 pence per gram

  • and cheese and onion is the best

  • You have worked out grams per pence here.

  • Yeah, I see that, cheers

  • @poniesinashed : Technically you solved for grams per pence instead of pence per gram, but the math was right up until division.

  • Oh yeah, thanks :-)

  • The "normal" bags over here are around 200 - 300 grams.. :D

  • i never knew that... good stuff.

  • Great video , certainly gives us all something to think about ...

  • I just got 18 bottles of Stella Artois and 15 bottles of Budweiser for £14 in Asda, my baker can't do that , your crisps would be cheaper in Morrisons, they sell them in packs of 24 for just £1.99 and They're Walkers too,

  • good comment.

  • Geriatric shopping haha I love it! :)

  • I think this video is very helpful, We have Dollar Stores in the states, were anything in the store is $1.12- ( tax included ) they carry food, small pots and pans, toiletries, containers, cleaning products, clothes and hardware and office supplies. The manager is very good at bringing in new products, plus we get more substance for our money, she still trying to find a way to bring in a full can of coffee but no luck so far and bags of rice at $1 is very economical.

  • In the US they tell the price per measure on a tag below. Very easy to judge.

  • Funny thing is they do in the UK supermarkets too!

  • i love the way in Tescos they add infomation to the price tag on the shelve.

when it says something like "Wrigleys chewing gum" 40p a pack, or £2 for 200g.

why is it weighing it out for me, this is especially annoying as this is not a special offer, its just telling me that i could get a hell of alot of chewing gum for £1.60p more. why would i do that. thats why i am choosing the single pack, and not the multipack.

    Rickydiculous.

  • I think the point is that when you know how much 200g would cost you can see how cheap/expensive it is in comparison to other products.

  • I figured it out on my trusty calculator and came up with .0616 pence savings per 25 gram bag. .37 pence savings on the total 6 bag gram weight. I wasn't doing anything anyway LOL!! I was off .04 pence per bag doing it in my head!! I need to re-calibrate my thinking. Again, cheers to you, Peter!

  • I think they're hoping people won't or CAN'T do the math!

  • Looks like a .10 pence perbag saving if you go the 6 multipack route. Forget about the Walkers, and buy a Harley!! Cheers Peter

  • Nice vlog; to the people saying they look like Lays, I think it's the exact same brand but with a different name, I've only ever seen them called Walkers in the UK.

  • hahaha, I liked the comment about the bakery girls.

  • u get 150 grams for £1.40 so 0.93 pence per gram in the multi pack.

207 grams for £2.70 if you buy them single which is 1.03 pence per gram.

clearly its not a huge difference but for the 6 bags theres £1.30 difference.

It would cost you about £2.23 to buy 207 grams using the cheaper multi pack. Thats a saving of 47P!

  • Jazziuk, thank you for restoring my faith--I am greatly alarmed that half of the commenters so far have got the math wrong. Of course, you and I may BOTH be wrong, but we came up with the same numbers, so I'm betting on our horse.

  • 0.9333 pence per gramme

    1.3043 pence per gramme,

so you do indeed save money by buying the multipack.

  • chatted up by girls :o

  • I dont know how it is in the UK, but here in Sweden the supermarkets are obligated to have, next to the price you will be paying for the product, a small yellow sign stating how much the product is per liter or kilo (or whatever). This is an excellent system which helps us customers to choose a package or something of best value for money (obviously).

  • I love your thought of the little man who breaks apart some of those crisps, in order to get these weird weight numbers together xD!

And as I feel how my brain is starting to smoke (allergic reaction to all arithmetic / maths ...), I beg to be excused, and leave the calculus to other commenters.

  • walker chips look like lays chips!!!! lol

  • walkers are actually made by Lay's because there are no Lay's in ireland or uk..

  • Some of the supermarkets here actually post the unit price on the counters. Could be in cents per ounce. But mostly item for item they are very close. Some small discount on FAMILY size.

First was .93 pence per gramme

Second was 1.3 pence per gramme.

So you save a nearly 2 farthings a packet.

  • Ha! They do the same here in the U.S.

  • lovely. thanks peter :)

  • Walker's, product placement?

    lol.

  • Many stores that we shop have a price per unit below the price per package. I does make it easy if you're on a budget like most of us.

    As far as your question....

    WHAT?

  • The multipack is better value per gram but there's extra packaging! We need to think about mother earth.

  • 6 bags of 25 is about 1.07p per gram

6 bags of 34.5 is about 1.30p per gram

you're paying about 23p per bag in the 6 pack. but getting 9.5grams less. Having said that, paying 45p for 34.5 grams is about 10p too much when worked out against the 25g bag, the 34.5g bag should only be about 35p.

I suddenly feel like I've been ripped off by Walkers on many occasions.

  • Why do you feel like you are being ripped off? the whole point of the multi packs are to save money, the single packs are supposed to be more expensive.

  • Well they charge different amounts per gram for the exact same product. i feel ripped off for buying single packs. i think i'll just get a massive bag of skips from asda instead :P

  • it's a really good thing to do! trying to buy only in my local shops - most important: bookstores! in my hometown, the local stores are pushed away by big bookstorechains! love your channel and especially your stories from the early days :) my grandpa only tells those storys on christmas =S

  • Haha, man I think you are so right about this!
