  • Glad nobody was hurt. Though it is a painful thing to see a suppressor ruined like that.

  • well thats cool that they replaced it.

  • I love AAC suppressors, but Mike is really squirrely. I tried to get one from him (May of 09) to my SOT/FFL and after 12 weeks nothing; just saying paperwork was at ATF. I told him to jump into a lake and ordered one from a dealer in another state that had one on hand...took only 15 days for xfer to my SOT/FFL.

I do not know why he strung me along so long. Obviously my SOT/FFL holder is fine, so must be some real issues at AAC...or he is just to lazy to deal w/one silencer.

  • that sucks

  • This is why I will only ever deal with Advanced Armament Corp...

#1 regardless of this failure (who knows what the hell happened...They will always take care of you!..

Mike Mer is an awesome rep and when I get around to advancing my suppressor collection..Advanced Armament will be my only supplier of suppressors and besides their Tattoos are pretty kick ass too!

  • lol...

  • I would CRY.

  • wats the point of this video i dont get it

  • The point is to showcase a catastrophic failure of a "top quality" suppressor. It could have resulted in serious injury, death, or the destruction of the host weapon. Luckily, the suppressor took all the punishment and I walked away unscathed.

  • Good point.

Is it possible that it was slightly bent and one of the bullets caught on the baffle or inner end of the suppressor? Maybe this is what caused the failure. If I could say, your pretty lucky, pressures inside there combined with a super sonic bullet should have had it detonate in your face!

    Thanks for the video

  • Haha! I recognize that RO's voice.

  • From Ben Avery?

  • Sorry for the delay. I didn't see your comment. Yes, it was at Ben Avery's. I'm there almost every Sunday.

  • id be pissed, probably like everyone else if this happened to me, I would write a big ass complaint letter to the company! $200 for filing and since thats more of an assault silencer its gonna cost upwards of $800 probably more like $1500

  • I emailed the company and they replaced it with ZERO hassle. It's documented in earlier responses. They even commented on the video I took. LOL. They were awesome. Also, the suppressor was $900 + $200 stamp.

  • good! to me they better replace that thing, cause if you got a machine gun, wow, I can only imagine how much fun I would have with that....

  • If they out right replaced the suppressor (ie a different serial number) did you have to repay the $200 tax stamp?

  • No, if a MFG replaces it, they'll just destroy the original, and put the same serial number on the new one.

  • WHOA!

That's something I hope never happens to me on the range - or god forbid - on exercise.

    - Al!

  • I belive this falls under the catagory of "Oops!"

  • Yeah... more like "Oh Sh*t!"

  • possibly even "What just happened?!"

  • or maybe..."whoa..."

  • or something like "holy crap!"

  • or a potential "GOD DAMNITT"

  • lol or maybe looks on the side,

    says 'made in china'

  • dropped a mag on that house robber huh

  • Actually, I was being assaulted by a group of paper targets at my outdoor shooting range. I feared for my life and opened up on them! Then, I dragged their dead paper bodies into the house, called 911 and said it was a Home Invasion. LOL.

  • Baffle strike?

  • Nope. The damn thing vibrated so violently, it sprung off the barrel and was hit by an exiting bullet (in full auto). Design has since been corrected by AAC.

  • Damn!

  • holt crap... did it damage the rifles flashider?

  • I dunno. You will have to ask the owner. A damaged flash hider is not as bad as a damaged bbl! :[

  • Nope. It was on a MP5K. So, no flash hider. The suppressor attached via the 3-lug barrel.

  • I recognize the man in the background saying, "everybody stay behind the red line". I know that you are at the Ben Avery shooting range just because I recall that mans voice.

  • You are correct. He does have a distinct voice. You are the 3rd that has recognized him.

  • Yeah, he kinda' sounds like Milton from 'Office Space'... "Have you seen my stapler?"

  • I guess they aren't kidding when they say suppressors create alot of back pressure :)

I'm glad nobody got hurt, and the gun didn't get damaged.

  • like a vaccum thing.. that u put on a vaccum....

  • Uh... no. This is a silencer (or suppressor) to be installed on the end of a gun. It quiets the sound of the gun going off.

  • lol ok mom...its actually a gun suppressor for an mp5

  • I believe that AAC actually mentioned that on this posting. They have since improved the design. Cudos to the people at AAC.

  • looks like its the HK designed mount that failed not the supressor...

  • is that a vaccum thingy?

  • I don't even know how to comment on this question...

  • are those things expensive? how impaired is it after that? unusable?

  • this suppressor costs $650. it is no longer functionable as it won't attach to the barrel. however, if you read back on the posts, the MFG replaced it under their lifetime warranty. most MFGs have a lifetime repair warranty. logically, as these things probably costs them less than $50 to make. LOL.

  • Was there any damage to the muzzle of the weapon?

  • Nope. The suppressor took all the punishment.

  • Haha, I recognize the range master's voice from Ben Avery.

  • The problem with ANY suppressor or semi-auto guns is that the barrel "tilts" during firing. Sometimes you need a gas block (also known as a retarder) that allows the gas to get delayed so gun will cycle. Besides, 9mm pistols are the most difficult to do. I wouldn't judge AAC on this transaction alone. Which model did you buy? The Evolution 9 has the "retarder" built into the suppressor. That should have worked fine.

  • I bought an Advanced Armament suppressor for a Glock 17 9mm and it did not cycle . AA is not recommended by me .

  • I have just set up a living trust in order to obtain a suppressor, because we have an uncooperative CLEO. Does anyone have any detailed info of the next steps I need to take? I am just wondering if having a trust eliminates the need for photo, fingerprinting, &c.

  • I recommend that you contact your local Class 2 dealer. They'll have the information you need to get it done. Besides, you will need a Class 2 dealer to handle the transfer anyways.

  • After that happened, AAC not only replaced it for free, but also redesigned the back mount and changed it from aluminum to steel. It won't happen with a steel one, and has not happened to the other aluminum ones.

  • rlilvers, how do you know of this redesign? I didn't hear anything about that. Now, I'm going to have to put a magnet on the end of mne and see if it's steel. LOL.

  • Because I work for them. The Stainless is non-magnetic. I would not worry about it. I have an aluminum one and I am not upgrading it even though it is free and easy for me. The barrel that came in with it (not sure if it was this one as two broke -- out of over 1000 I think) had undersized lugs (not a German HK barrel) which caused a jackhammer effect on the mount.

  • Ah.. no. I didn't include my barrel. I was the one who emailed this video to Freddy Thompson Jr. This was in Mid-October 2006. Hey, glad to see you guys are active on the internet. Like I said in my original posting, I LOVE you guys! That reminds me, I need to order another flash hider for my M4-2000 and a rate reducing buffer.

  • Hey good tip: Let the gun cool when using a attachment... It's like those fake nales that girls wear... Give it a rest...

  • where is it legal in the US to own silencers? i know its legal in some states

  • i hear you need a separate license or something to own one. plus payments. all the red tape for a silencer

  • If your state allows for ownership, you have to get signed permission from your Chief Law Enforcement Officer, fill out federal forms, get fingerprinted, and send in $200 to cover the Tax Stamp. Takes 90-120 days for approval (pending a background check). Once approved, your paperwork will be sent to your dealer for the transfer. It's a few hoops to jump through. But, if you can legally purchase a handgun... you should not have a problem buying a silencer.

  • One more thing I think you havent mentioned is that there is no 'fee' you have to keep paying to keep it if you do a form 4 transfer.

  • Well here is a little more info. You do not HAVE TO get signed permission from your CLEO, get finger printed, or wait 90-120 days. You just need to set up a living trust in your name with you as the trustee. Put that on your form. send your $200 and wait about 30-45 days. the ATF has gotten better at filing paperwork. These same rules apply to all NFA items.

  • What? I have not hear that. It sounds like the same process if you're going to register it to a "business". However, I have not heard that being applied to a "Living Trust". Have any references to share with us?

  • If you visit Advanced Armament's web site, it will list which states allow for ownership.

  • sont silencers cost like 1200$? wow if so that really blows

  • Suppressors start around $200 for .22LR and up to $1600 for 50BMG and "custom" ones. This one was $750 + $200 for the Federal Tax Stamp.

  • damn... thats sad

  • Yeah, that sucked. But, Advanced Armament took care of me and replaced it. A "solid" company. I love them!

  • cool. did you hear of mosin nagants?
