@d1968leon you do realize that "head winds" are just regular wind. The term "head" refers to the direction that the wind is striking the aircraft, head being the nose. Tail being the tail, crosswind being the side of the fuselauge. So if there was a 160mph headwind this plane and any other airliner could takeoff at walking speed. Its the wind over and under the wings that determine lift. Groundspeed has nothing to do with it.

@d1968leon If the head wind was 1000km/h and the plane was standing still on the ground then it would be equivalent to the plane flying at 1000km/h with no wind (wind relative to the ground that is).

Motion is relative.

The plane could then hover with respect to the ground (actually if the wind was really 1000km/h then the plane would be flying backwards with respect to the ground because A380s can't fly at an airspeed of 1000km/h).
