This had to be one of the craziest movies I've ever seen. Who would've thought Adam Sandler could play a serious role like this? He's done so a few other times since then, such as Reign Over Me, which was also very good, but not as bizarre and interesting as this movie.

The funny thing is, Sandler essentially does the same schtick he does in his comedy movies in this. Random flipping out, yelling, exploding on things and people. Only this time its done with so much raw emotion...it's what's built around those explosions that makes it different, and so, so much better. This movie is magnificent. It's cool that Sandler was PTA's first and only choice for this movie...shows that PTA knew Sandler could do it. That's pretty awesome.

@rooney10scholes18 about magnolia, just so you know theres a shit load of metaphors that have to do with the bible and a certain chapter and verse that can be seen without realizing it especially in the introduction of the movie but also in the dialogue throughout the entire movie, it ties every single person together but when you say its the last hour where it goes downhill i majorly disagree, it really should have been another hour long splitting it into two sections...

Punch Drunk Love will grow on you if you watch it more and more. I know that sounds like a lot to someone who just feels it's crap but it's only 90 minutes long. I've seen all of his other films plenty of times but none of them come close to the perfection that was put into Punch Drunk Love. If only this would have a shot at the Oscars in 2002 instead of Chicago. This is an underrated masterpiece with the Best Cinematography, Best Direction, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor as well as Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Screenplay. It is also Best Picture in my book.

Just saw this movie. Damn, what a great film. It was very strange and unique, and Adam Sandler really knocked a home-run with his first truly serious role. I would seriously like to see him do more serious roles. He was actually supposed to take Brad Pitt's role for Inglorious Basterds before he decided to do Funny People instead.

What I like about it is that Sandler's character is like a real version of all the man-children he plays in movies like The Water Boy and Billy Madison and so on. He's not mentally handicapped, he just has trouble dealing with his emotions where we get over them and carry on. The movie's about how he keeps going in life, finding someone like-minded and knocking down the obstacles in his way.

That and purchase the soundtrack. It's one of my favorite soundtracks. I <3 Huckabees is another good soundtrack from Brion. Punch Drunk reminds me of touring, because I was on edge the entire time and that album was one of the things that I had to wind down to.

This movie is incredible touching and unexpected, the fact that someone like Adam Sandler -a comedian who rely in stoopid sense of humor- goes to great lenghts to offer a quirky interpretation of a lonely, bullied man who once falls in love, can overcome everything, is just inspiring. Hats off to Sandler, Emily Watson, Seymour Hoffman and the director, P. T. Anderson !

Its a shame that this movie is not a classic, Sandler totally deserved an Academy Award Nomination as Best Actor at least.
