When people were out spoken that Adam Sandler couldn't act in my acting class My teacher mentioned this movie and said. He is just a damn good actor in that
This had to be one of the craziest movies I've ever seen. Who would've thought Adam Sandler could play a serious role like this? He's done so a few other times since then, such as Reign Over Me, which was also very good, but not as bizarre and interesting as this movie.
This movie is tight. I wish i wasn't on my boyfriends youtube account, but I don't wanna sign into mine. haha. I'm watching this on netflix right now.

This is Adam Sandler at his funniest. I couldn't stop laughing because someone so untalented as him could take himself so seriously as to attempt to do serious acting. Sandler is a complete waste of space and any film with him in it is a waste of celluloide.
@jonathan45278 I Can't believe you talk like that... You think that he in the position that he is just because he's ''so untalented'' I don't think so, he's so great as a comedian actor.... If you don't like his movies doesn't mean that he's ''so untalented'' maybe you like other stuff!!
I saw this movie on netflix and so I decided to look up the trailer here. The comments got me more interested in it than the trailer did XD It's a really good movie, the cinematography is great and the acting is awesome!
The funny thing is, Sandler essentially does the same schtick he does in his comedy movies in this. Random flipping out, yelling, exploding on things and people. Only this time its done with so much raw emotion...it's what's built around those explosions that makes it different, and so, so much better. This movie is magnificent. It's cool that Sandler was PTA's first and only choice for this movie...shows that PTA knew Sandler could do it. That's pretty awesome.
just watched this after watching all the other pta films. this was the last one i had left to see..................and what a pretentious load of fucking weird crap. there will be blood and boogie nights are amazing, hard eight is really good, magnolia is good up until the last hour where it spectacularly spirals downwards, and this is just shit. i'm sorry to anyone who really likes this film
@rooney10scholes18 about magnolia, just so you know theres a shit load of metaphors that have to do with the bible and a certain chapter and verse that can be seen without realizing it especially in the introduction of the movie but also in the dialogue throughout the entire movie, it ties every single person together but when you say its the last hour where it goes downhill i majorly disagree, it really should have been another hour long splitting it into two sections...
@MrBarackObonga it shoudlve included the death of jimmy, who wasnt succesfull with his suicide but in fact does die and it clearly shows how it happens it just doesnt show it actually happening. i cant really come to a final explanation to this movie with youtube comments, but like pt anderson said after he finished the film "for better or for worse, this is the best screeplay ill ever write" or something along those lines...
Punch Drunk Love will grow on you if you watch it more and more. I know that sounds like a lot to someone who just feels it's crap but it's only 90 minutes long. I've seen all of his other films plenty of times but none of them come close to the perfection that was put into Punch Drunk Love. It's a weird movie, in fact it's so weird that only viewing once doesn't do it or yourself justice.
I couldn't understand why Adam Sandler wasn't at least nominated for an Oscar, let alone won one. The Oscars lost credibility with me because he wasn't.
this is one of the most oddly good movies I've ever seen. I expected a stupid romantic comedy. I walked out after watching an original touching film. One of the most entertaining movies ever.
It really saddens me that movies like this get brushed under the rug, along with P.T. Anderson's other movies, and crap like Vampires Suck and Eat Pray Love get all of the attention. This movie should be universally praised, but hey, money talks and bullshit walks.
@AshCosgrove I have to agree that Vampires Suck was blasphemous to film, but I found Eat Pray Love to be quite invigorating; even inspirational. Definitely one of the movies which I have to go against critics for. For the most part they are credible, but for some rare occasions they aren't, like Avatar.
If only this would have a shot at the Oscars in 2002 instead of Chicago. This is an underrated masterpiece with the Best Cinematography, Best Direction, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor as well as Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Screenplay. It is also Best Picture in my book.
Just saw this movie. Damn, what a great film. It was very strange and unique, and Adam Sandler really knocked a home-run with his first truly serious role. I would seriously like to see him do more serious roles. He was actually supposed to take Brad Pitt's role for Inglorious Basterds before he decided to do Funny People instead.
Adam sandler is an amazing actor, of course I enjoy his comedy roles, but the true is that actors like him and like jim carrery are understimated. For examaple jim carrey deserved a nomination for best actor in the majestis but he didn't get the chance due the elitism in the academy, Adam sandler reign over me performance was at that level.
I'm a fan of Adam Sandler's comedy films and was unsure if i wanted to see a movie like this. Man it was AMAZING! If i were to describe it it would be a pyschotic
This movie is the best Sandler ever made. Of course, it wasn't a financial success because "families" wanted a comedy. The scene where he gets angry is just amazing. It suits him so much.
basically ok.the main character(adam sandler) is a person that doesnt like it when people say false stuff about him like when his sister make fun of him,he cant hold his anger because he hasnt spent time with people.but that doesnt mean he is a bad person or anything the opposite it shows how much love can affect a "pure" person, how much strenght it can give.how much strenght can love give to a person and they are showing it throught the creation of the character of adam sandler very brilliantly
@kktdecal2 Not many people do, and I don't blame them.
What I like about it is that Sandler's character is like a real version of all the man-children he plays in movies like The Water Boy and Billy Madison and so on. He's not mentally handicapped, he just has trouble dealing with his emotions where we get over them and carry on. The movie's about how he keeps going in life, finding someone like-minded and knocking down the obstacles in his way.
The soundtrack to this film is just genius, the way it makes you feel what Barry is feeling is amazingly weird. I suggest watching this movie with headphones on!
That and purchase the soundtrack. It's one of my favorite soundtracks. I <3 Huckabees is another good soundtrack from Brion. Punch Drunk reminds me of touring, because I was on edge the entire time and that album was one of the things that I had to wind down to.
I watched this last night and felt that it was rather unnerving until towards the end. Certainly the deepest, most exploring role that Adam Sandler has had.
It was a really interesting movie- an emotional ride, with a beautifully uplifting and liberating ending.
i saw this maybe a year ago. it is by far one of sandler's most serious of roles. yes it is sort of boring but it is extreamly messed up in so many ways lol. very cool if your a serious film viewer.
I watched this movie a few days ago. I was emotionally drained, specially when I felt for sure that he was going to kick all the glass in the store lol.. and i was all hyped up but... i was dissapointed, but i gess that was good, because that is what a normal person would do, and his character had just found strenght, and love!!. not sure i like it. i give it 80%.
This movie is incredible touching and unexpected, the fact that someone like Adam Sandler -a comedian who rely in stoopid sense of humor- goes to great lenghts to offer a quirky interpretation of a lonely, bullied man who once falls in love, can overcome everything, is just inspiring. Hats off to Sandler, Emily Watson, Seymour Hoffman and the director, P. T. Anderson !
Its a shame that this movie is not a classic, Sandler totally deserved an Academy Award Nomination as Best Actor at least.
@mexikankub It's considered an Adam Sandler Classic, not the movie itself, just for the movies hes been in all together, he was pretty good in Reign Over me as well
i havnt watched this movie yet but i watched the first 30 mins and so far it looks really fucked up. i love adam and this is weird as hell. the director must have been high when he was makin this.

One of Adam Sandler's unusual roles and very good, too.

This is a really cool and strange movie. It's a shame in my country it isn't known at all. It was a miracle that i saw it in cinemma.

Seeing this soon. It is hilarious when Phillip Seymour Hoffman repeat "Shut"on the phone.

I laughed my ASS off to that movie! (I sent my friend the link to buy the sound-track as a joke). Newsweek said "it's as funny as it is strange" - and they weren't kidding!
