I know science and math are important, I know we need better teachers. I heard students complain that they can't keep up with the pace of the science and math curricula. Too many teachers are just throwing information at them because it's on a standardized test. Too many teachers are teaching for the test, but it's not possible to teach everything in our short school year. Teachers should teach students how to be "Life-long learners" and how we can figure things out to do well in school.
This is about retribution, not recovery. Virtually all the schools that received this grant are majority black.

Why not have a Race to the Top for all Congress. If politicians get a ratings less than 50% from there constituents they lose there job or their salary and benefits.

There is already a system of checking congressman its called the election, if a politician gets less than 50% approval from their constituents then they don't reelected (is the theory). The problem is politicians spend an awful lot of money brown nosing and hiding their dirt. "Race to the Top" is scam. We are going to make schools and teachers compete for nickels and dimes while in turn we flush $600+ billion dollars down the toilet on Defense Spending in 2010. The federal government only funds 4% of all schools budgets. The rest of funding comes from the state or local governments. In Canada it is divided up 33% federal, 33% Prov, 33% local.

I agree. I pulled my gifted son our of the school system at 6. He would read books on Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, and Mozart and the teacher said those were not part of the curriculum so he was banned from reading them. So I promptly removed him!!! His college entrance exam he scored at the top.05% at graduate level in reading and comprehension at age 16. H

My first time to vote was for President Barack Obama and I still believe in him. He may not be the perfect President, and yes there have been mistakes, but we must realize that being President is that hardest job on this earth. I still believe that I voted for a better brighter future for this country and I understand, as do many others, that to achieve better America we must do more then just vote for change we must act on change and getting a better education is one way of making that change

I'm not sure what approval rating your talking about because the national average is 54.3 %. If the Presidents approval ratings were at 40% that would be a huge news story. If you are willing to believe your made up approval rating are correct I am willing to bet that you have never gone to college or are still in high school. Also, it should be known that 54.3 national average is still high.

54% is high and no matter how you crunch the numbers - which Im sure you haven't - you would know that no matter how many people 40% gives you, in your case it's about 80 million, it's still not the majority. When the President has the majority of the people on his side his doing a pretty good job. Also you don't have to use the caps lock key people can read your comments without it.
